  1. Interesting opinions from all parties. As metalman says I'm going to stick to my guns and not pay this stealth tax by staying away from the area. Goooooogle - I don't have a pipe, so will struggle. If only I could get to a local shop to get one? Oh and congratulations for going to this area more. They need all the help they can get! I must say that I would struggle to go for say, lunch, in 15 mins - leave vehicle to cafe, sit down, choose food, order, food prepared, food served, eaten, pay, leave and back to vehicle. Maybe your mouth is bigger than mine so 15 mins is achievable? The problem is that for areas like this to survive and thrive they have to become accessible. This area (and others in Sheffield) are simply put - not. With the internet and deliveries to your door how can areas like this become places to go? Click & Collect is increasing so how are these places going to do this if people cannot collect? I would walk to the area, but how am i (let alone people traveling to the area from outside of Sheffield) meant to know which areas are free and which are paid without extensive research before I go there?
  2. Don't know who that is. Fact is i'm not going to this area with my custom. I know its my choice, but I resent the fact that it is mainly due to our wonderful council.
  3. In the areas that I was driving around that was for residents only, but the key point here is that they were mostly empty. Surely the local businesses would get more people in if these areas were utilised more effectively?
  4. I have complained to the council about it, but expect some non-response as per usual. I'd quite happily walk but without knowing EVERY area of Sheffield with restrictions and the free parking areas in those areas, it is difficult to know where to go exactly. I'm kind of in the middle of various areas, so yes the cost for me to get to various areas is the same for me.
  5. Car park on top is still pay for use. Same petrol costs to get there as to other areas, but without the added cost of parking.
  6. I want to go to the shops in Broomhill and give some of the local shops, restaurants and bars some custom. However I can't as I have to spend money to park up there. Praise to Sheffield Council for making things difficult for this area. My custom going elsewhere...
  7. Is it not a public road? So I'm renting it from who exactly? Surely the council does not 'own' the road, so how can they charge for renting space when they don't own it in the first place? I think they'll start to charge pedestrians for using crossings, underpasses and bridges next.
  8. Service? Can you tell me what this service is please? Parking a car is not a service. If we got our vehicles washed then maybe this would be classed as a service and people would be more willing to pay. Simple answer is don't go to these areas. I cannot remember the last time I went to the centre and if I were a retailer I certainly wouldn't be looking at putting up shop there.
  9. Challenge every single one you get! It'll eventually cost them more to process all the contested fines and so they'll have no choice but to remove them. They are effectively stealth taxes and so like any politician you should do all you can to negate it!
  10. Errr loopy? So people bought stuff before the changes and had refuse. That has not changed. What has is the frequency of collection of the black bin. That IS the councils fault. Why don't you publish your address so people can come and use your bin? Then we can see how you feel about these changes...
  11. Agreed, but they can be held responsible for changes they have made that are to the detriment of individuals through no fault of their own.
  12. But who was ultimatly responsible? Who decided on the change to a general refuse collection every two weeks? It certainly wasn't my neighbours. Yes they are responsible for being lazy or ignorant as GrannyGranny said, but it is not their fault so they should not take the cost for a bin lock for me.
  13. Thanks for the help. I think that the council should be funding this and not me. they caused the problem that wasn't there in the first place! Also my bin is out of the way already.
  14. Agreed, however I am effectively being punished for this change. It is not my responsibility to educate or motivate these people to do it. This is where it doesn't work and the council have got it wrong...again.
