  1. I remember it well. My parents lived just a little way up on the other side. Your Gran had blondish hair and was always immaculate. I used to love their scraps and fishcakes. I remember Ian, I think he was a bit older than me.
  2. Hi, I hardly knew anyone except from school. I went to Coleridge Road. I had some friends in Cartonville Road, they were twins, Pauline and Sandra Baxter. I left Attercliffe in 1960. I remember all those people going/leaving work at English Steel. You could hear all the men with their heavy boots going down the entry early in the morning.
  3. I used to live on Attercliffe Common, near Broughton lane. I remember Lants fish and chip shop, the best part was a big bag of scraps. Left there about 1960, live in Spain now. Grat to read about allthe places I remember.
  4. My Grandfather was a member of the Clarion Club, he died in the early 1940's. His name was William Henry allford, he used to go on the moors Trespass walks and was an early member of the Labour Party. If anyone comes across his name can you let me know? Thanks.
  5. My Mum and Dad used to go in all the clubs in Attercliffe, Attercliffe Rads, liberal. Darnall Aquaduct. There was a conservative club near the Broughton Inn. Remember Tony Whyte, Lynn Perrie (later coronation st) Ricky Lee used to shop at Banners sometimes. Toni Dalli (he now runs a posh restaurant near to where I live and drives a Ferrari!) After she was widowed my Mum worked for years at Manor Social Club (until she died at 75!) She loved it.
  6. I remember Miss Deakin, she wore big bloomers down to her knees, she terrified me. I remember the fish and chip shops, does anyone make fishcakes now? Remember asking for chips and a cake with scraps. The pubs always seemed to be full and you could see a different film almost every night of the week. Everywhere you went there was always someone who you knew:D Happy Days!!
  7. I lived further down, my Grandmother had a shop at 211 Attercliffe Common. remember the traffic being busy even when I was a kid. all my relatives lived around there, Berkely St, Amberly St. I went to Carbrook school and later Coleridge Road. Reading all the threads I am suprised that a lot of the things I remember seem to have gone. I used to work in the top floor offices at Carters on Attercliffe Road and we couldn't call each other by first names, we were all known as "Miss..."
  8. Amazing thread, really brought back some memories that I had forgotten about. Was brought up in a 2 up 2 down with outside toilet and can remember putting on my coat to go in the winter time...paper cut up was always the radio times. Have 4 bathrooms now and can't imagine being without any of them. Strange how you change today even the dishwasher breaking down for a day seems a disaster! My Grandchildren are supervised and driven everywhere wheras we were just left to get up in the morning and could go out for the day in school holidays without any questions asked. We would go with jam sandwiches and a bottle of water on the tram to Millhouses Park and get into all sorts of scrapes. Happy days!!
  9. Born in attercliffe progressed bit by bit to live in Dore then Kingston Upon thames. Lived for the past 10 years in Marbella, costa del sol. Have visited the UK since but not sheffield, miss it in a sort of nostalgic way but if I came back to the UK would not consider living there.
  10. Hi, Fettling..My mother used to say this when she was going to give the house a good clean. Knobbing/nobbing...I used to work as a file-cutter when I left school and this word was used to describe when you were working very hard.
