I purchased some hardy/cocktail kiwi seeds last summer. I then found out that they needed to go through a stratification process. So I popped them in some moist paper towel and into the fridge in a ziploc bag. 4 months later I have 1 of these seeds sprouting but nothing from the rest. I know that I need more than 1 plant for these to germinate so 1 seedling is as much use as a chocolate teapot. Any advice???? PS Im a total simpleton when it comes to this so please keep things simple:huh:

Problem with Secondary school
I3lade4life replied to I3lade4life's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Haha I wouldnt wish that on any dog. 11 year old lads have awfully bad feet Thanks for the advice. I was tempted just to accept it but Im starting to wonder if I should take it further -
My son had a pair of brand new trainers taken whilst at (unnamed) school just over 2 weeks ago. These were in his bag as they were only used for PE. They have been taken from his bag whilst he left it under his desk. The person who took them replaced my sons trainers with another pair. I asked the school to look into it, and they have got back to me saying they think the trainers were taken accidentaly but they have not been returned, neither is the person owning up to who owns the pair of trainers that were left in his bag. The school say they cannot prove who took the shoes so we just have to write it off to a bad experience. Obviously I am not right happy about this outcome but I understand the difficulties involved. Does anybody know what I can do next? Or are they right and we just have to learn from this mistake?

Any aquatic/aquarium enthusiasts in Sheffield?
I3lade4life replied to Notreve's topic in Sheffield Pet Owners
The fish shops in sheffield are shocking. We used to have a high standard a few years back but things have gone downhill in my opinion. The best place in the area at the moment is Spire Aquatics in Chesterfield. The guy who works there is knowledgable and helpful, without being arsey.... if you fancy going further afield I would recommend Wharf Aquatics on the outskirts of Nottingham/Mansfield. Fantastic shop but expensive. But I find the best places for info and great bargains are the forums and facebook pages. Try Sheaf Valley Aquarist Society, Great little setup and they do a lot of auctions where you will find loads of fish not usually available in shops -
Im sure you could take a haggis into your local chippie and ask them to batter it for you. We used to be able to do it with mars bars when we were kids

Mine has done well over the summer. It hasn't multiplied like the one's I've had in the past but is has still done well. I think they are expected to deteriorate at this time of the year as they are a tropical plant, and the colder temps can take its toll Thanks again

Most goldfish start off as a dark brown/black colour when young as it helps them blend in and camouflage against predators, then as they get older their colours start to come out more and more.

I am trying to thin out my gold fish stocks, so I am offering various sized Goldies at £1-2 each depending on size. Loads of different sizes and colours etc. All have been raised in my pond so are outdoor hardy. Collection only from S14

Hi, does anybody have any water hyacinth for sale?
-
That is exactly what happens, noisy to start with, then shut up when I walk in, so I cant tell which one is being the noisiest (crafty buggars). Sorry for the confusion, but the chickens in the youtube video arent mine, its just a video I found for reference, lol

We have had a brood of hens for a couple of years now, but during the last 6-8 weeks 1 of our hens has become really noisy in the morning. It is always around 5.30 -- 6 am. Obviously I am concerned about our neighbours. It is a very loud BAWK'ing. Like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6jAHCYJcS8 I have blacked out the hen shed as much as possible to stop as much light, but that hasnt done the trick, Does anybody else have any suggestions to stop this, before I or my neighbours lose anymore sleep

WOW... nice spot, defo a Black Rock hen:D:D:D:D. That has set my mind at rest slightly
-
Well we didnt wake up to any crowing this morning, so I'm guessing its a hen. I still think its a welsummer hen.
-
I have been at work all day so I haven't heard anything. How would the hens react if it was a cockerel? There doesn't seen to be too much excitement

This is by far the strangest post I have put on here. But my wife woke up this morning to find a random chicken wandering in our back yard. We do already have 3 hens in our garden and this one definately isnt one of ours. Not sure how she got there, I am thinking that someone in our area has found it or got bored of it as a pet and chucked it over our fence knowing that we keep hens. I believe its a welsummer and Im really hoping its a hen. This is him/her http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk284/i3lade4life/photo-1.jpg I really hope someone knows what breed and sex this is

its now illegal to import them into this country. Thats why the shops no longer stock them. Look on ebay etc
