  1. Well said John! The whole concept of placing 'late developers' into engineering/building' only, was somewhat restricting and dare I say, self serving for local industry. Leaving the CTS with no qualifications and eventually becoming a teacher at an Australian university, begs the question, was I to be written off as a failure? No way but I had to do it through alternative means!
  2. ---------- Post added 03-05-2016 at 18:59 ---------- I can name names....BAINES for one! This sadist, employed as a teacher, almost ripped my hair out from the roots, because I simply didn't understand a workshop procedure. Today, this kind of physical abuse, would result in a sacking or prosecution. For those that were oblivious to this "discipline" you most likely had the right face, name or social background. There were numerous, similar instances, that I know of and I hope that they, like myself, did well for themselves, after they had entered a level playing field. Mine was Australia!
  3. Does anyone know if our old neighbour "City Grammar" has a similar following to that of CTS?
  4. Thanks coalandcoke, I would appreciate a copy ([email protected]).
  5. I remember the 'Yoyo fiasco!' I almost got the same for swearing at lad for stealing my donut at the Gleadless Tuck shop. Fortunately, another boy was chosen!
  6. Hi Terry. I remember your name. I was in with the 'other mob' Do you remember Paul Bailey, Gordon Carlisle, Richard Stojak, Robert Taylor?
  7. Off topic for a second, can anyone confirm exactly, where the CTS memorial bench is in Sheffield.
  8. I knew a Szpigniew Subucki and a Michael Fletcher (62-65). I think they were in 'Building', I was with the 'other mob' Does anyone remember: Paul Bailey, Gordon Carlisle, Richard Stojak and 'tough guy', Desmond Bulmer?
  9. This thread has jogged my memory of 'Bainsey' dragging me to the floor by my hair, screaming in my face because I made a mistake on the laithe. I admit that I wasn't really cut out for an engineering career and maybe the entry selection (alternate Building/Engineering), didn't always suit the candidates. On a positive note, I made some great friends while I was there!
  10. Thanks Ian, I would appreciate your input Re: Boris' experiences in the German army.
  11. I remember moving in to a brand spanking school at Gleedless and the meat pies at the local 'Tuck Shop'. Returning to an earlier time, I was always fascinated by Herbert's orator skills, especially in his 'Assembly talks' and his occasional 'gramophone sessions'...Alleluia Chorus?
  12. Thanks for the 'Memory Jog' Guys…Now I remember. Lots of cheese pie, green cabbage and semolina! Thats why the 'Baby Boomers' are aging so well.
  13. I was a CTS student in the early 60's. Does anyone remember where we used to hike to for our school dinners?
