  1. hi, I think its wednesday 2030-2200 or there abouts, but i think the instuctor is still injured as there hasnt been anyone about for a while. Andyb above should know better if they are back in the dojo as they traing after the Goju Karate class i think. i'll post if i find out anything different.
  2. I think the instructer has had an injury for a bit, and i haven't heard much about it for a while. It's still on the time table near the notice boards though...
  3. well now, i didnt see this post either Just to update the websites, they are in the signature below. I guess i should have posted about or Kangeiko then maybe some of you guys could have made it. As it is, there isnt time to sort out insurance for the week long intensive training...
  4. Well, i never saw this thread before, or else i would have posted Any way, if your still searching, try having a look at our websites, and see what you think. Beginners are always welcome at both the student and the town club classes...
  5. You could always give us a try... Though i'm not too sure about the spiritual side, as that is often more traditional aikido.
  6. you could try us out, in the city centre, and at the same dojo as simms mentioned
  7. Our dojo is perminant mats and martial arts training. We do shodokan aikido, but there is also gojo ryu karate (i hope i've spelt it right) and shorinji kempo. Now i'm sure iv'e spelt that one wrong...
  8. Hey, why not see what you think of Shodokan Aikido, it is some times called aikido kyogi (sport aikido, and i hope i have the spelling right) as we compete. Our monday sessions are good for fitness as we just do our randori (freeplay similar to judo) non-stop. We train in the city centre, so it may not be so easy from Hunters Bar unless you want to get a bus or dont mind walking. Tuesday and Fridays are best to start with to pic up the basics, check out the websites.
  9. Well, if you fancy Shodokan Aikido, then we have train in the centre of town, just up from the Devonshire Cat pub. Check out the websites in the signature... polar bears in cities may be interesting, what with thier habitat melting away, they could chomp through a fair few meals. I guess you would need to always keep a slow runner at close hand to keep between you and the bear...
  10. Hey, Try shodokan aikido:hihi: , we dont have weight classes, as it is the technique not the muscle mass and strength that makes it effective. Try it out, along with some of the other classes and see what suits you. check out the websites for more info - we're in the centre of town. cheers
  11. Hi, I saw a poster in our dojo in the centre of town for a class. I think the teacher may be injured, and i may have the exact school wrong. We actually train in Shodokan Aikido, but the timetable in the dojo seems to have a slot for it. I'm afraid i dont know a contact number, but it may be worth contacting people through the town club website (see signature below). i'll try to remember to look on the dojo notice boards and put up another post. cheers
  12. I'm liking this discussion. Some very good points have been brought up. I deffinatly think that its simply a few that bring down the whole. I'm fairly new to actually joining the forum - looking rather than contributing (bit like wikipedia really), but i've noticed that some of you seem to be giving positive advice and not only about whatever it is that your involved in, and then a few seem to just stick the jibes in and offer little constructive info and are usually way off thread. Maybe i am Personally, i think people should be encouraged to try out any of the clubs they feel may be for them. Thats the only way to find out what you'll enjoy and if you like the teaching. Also I guess doing more that one sport (martial arts in this case) can add to your perfomance in the other. It would depend on your attitude to training, and self control (possibly to do with sporting rules), as long as there is a possitive atmosphere to learning, teaching and passing on the benifits to beginners then it should all be good. There is always much more to martial arts rather than it becoming a street fighting class and a question of who would win in a fight. I started for personal developement and a bit of socialising when i moved to Sheffield. It just happened that i also love the discipline, competition, teaching and the rest of the package too. Do you think that it is that some people have a lack of understanding of the other disciplines (and possible an over confident attitude towards their level of knowlege of the disciplines), a bad attitude towards the martial arts in general, or are just armchair pundits??
  13. try the links in my signature to fins out about the Shodokan Aikido club in sheffield... cheers
  14. If you're still looking for stuff to try out - how about Shodokan Aikido? We train on wellington street, Monday 1730-1900 Tuesday 2000-2130 thursday 1730-1900 Friday 1900-2030 beginners always welcome. have a look at the two club websites (we have a uni club and a town club) cheers
  15. I'm training at a Shodokan Aikido Club, actually the university one, but they have a town club as well. Beginners always welcome. check out the website in the signature (just figured out i can do that! ) for info and links to the town club website. cheers
