  1. I hate Dominoes or Pizza Hut. I actually like Pizza Express-I'm sorry if that offends some people but I think for a huge chain their food is actually very nice. I've only ever had pasta at Portofino (sp??) on Chesterfield Road (which was lovely!) but other members of my group had pizza and it looked really nice!
  2. I don't know much about equipment so will have to pass on that part of the question but do enjoy trying to take nice shots with my decent-ish camera. My favourite place in the world is the Scottish Highlands, specifically Arisaig and the beaches nearby (where I got engaged!) so spending some time in a cosy little cottage up there with the sole purpose of getting shots of the islands and associated wildlife would be wonderful. I have to admit, the chance to photograph a Scottish wildcat is not something I would forget in a hurry (but also very unlikely to happen. Elusive beasts!)
  3. I think before you do anything like phone the dog warden then the obvious thing to do is just speak to the man-I'm sure he doesn't bite and will be more than willing to put your mind at ease,. If he tells you something is wrong then that is the point when you can offer to lend a hand. I know you mean well but by acting in a way that could potentially split up the man and dog is not the way to go about this in my opinion-the pair of them will no doubt really depend on each other for companionship and support. I'm sure he cares about his dog and I'm not sure I could live with myself if I was the cause of the removal of his dog who is most likely his most loyal friend in the world
  4. I second Wood Lane CC actually, that was our other option but in the end it was a bit too small and they had very few dates to choose from (we will be married 11 months after we got engaged). Obviously says something about the place though! The garden is very pretty.
  5. I eat fish but not meat and am always very happy there! Fish dishes-they do fish pie, kedgeree (sp??), fish and chips and fish finger sandwiches. They always have a veggie pie on which I'm yet to try but their veggie sausages are to die for! Very yummy. Also do a selection of fish/veggie starters which are quite nice to eat tapas style I've probably missed something out but it's definitely worth a try.
  6. Noooo you don't want to be able to buy the ice cream in a supermarket! The magic would be lost Do you have any local shops that might consider stocking it if OCM were interested? They should definitely give me a job when I leave Uni in five weeks-the amount of customers I've sent their way is incredible :hihi: Already looking forward to the interval of Beauty and the Beast ballet on Wednesday at the Lyceum for my tub of lemon and ginger I've also made my latest tub of Bakewell tart last over a month (terrified of it running out and having to wait an age for another batch of it in litre tubs )
  7. That's really reassuring to hear boss lady. Less than five months to go until my own big day there now! I'm really glad your daughter's wedding went so well, congratulations
  8. The cat thing was a deal breaker for me actually-obviously my cats were here first and would have come first if Jet ended up not being cat friendly. Anyone who remembers us getting Jet on here will tell you how paranoid I was about him being round the cats-but it turns out I was simply unexperienced at reading collie body language and he was simply on edge, scared of them as opposed to wanting to eat them I see what you're saying kittie but we rescued Jet with the attitude that he was on a trial with us. If it didn't work out with the cats at least he had been taken out of harm's way, the possibility of him being put to sleep was removed and we would view him as another foster case and find him a lovely new home, so we always had a plan B should the worst happen Thank GOD it worked out as it would've broken my heart to let him go to another forever home (although sometimes I have to remind myself I really really love him when he's doing his "cocky, smug BC" act he's an ass. A loveable one though!)
  9. Jet came from the pound! He is a dream in the house, with people, children and generally really well behaved (and he's a border collie, so that's saying something ) The only negative thing is his attitude to other dogs but we soon learnt what made him tick and what situations he could and couldn't cope with, and now it's not so difficult. Sometimes a pain when for my own peace of mind I have to keep him on a lead but we tend to try and walk at times when the park is quieter, or go to the woods where we can avoid other people (I'm about as antisocial as he is most of the time so it works for me! ) He is star. I'd say go for it, but be aware there are likely to be a few hiccups (like with ANY dog). There are very few problems that can't be overcome with patience though, and it's all worth it in the end anyway Good luck!
  10. I agree with The Old Rectory at Handsworth (but then I'm biased...five months to go ) Big enough but not too big. Bit different. Lovely staff (Tim is very helpful, to the point where our dog is being allowed to attend!) Good luck in your search, it is overwhelming!
  11. Whoops I only just saw that invitation lol. Will have to sort drinks out at some point to discuss weddings
  12. Wow thanks for that Medusa-the whole thing sounds beautiful. I love daffodils Sorry about what followed though How did it go Leah?????! How does it feel to be a WIFE?
  13. It is it is Sophie! And thank God I've found something to suit my almost-size-14 hips I shall be in touch v. soon Thanks Medusa-what colour did you get married in if you don't mind me asking? On a bridal website I saw someone in a bright yellow dress and it was off-the-scale gorgeous. Absolutely beautiful. It just worked!
  14. If you know Handsworth at all, these directions will make sense. If not, sorry coming out of town on the 52, you get off at the bowling alley. Cross the road, walk away from town. You'll see a huge church. Just before the church is a dirt track, and it's down there (and they are allowing the dog to attend,as is the vicar ) I'm so excited now, for us both!
  15. I really don't see the problem with children in the pub as long as they are being watched. I don't have kids but there are plenty in my family-and even children of the "best" parents have tantrums, meltdowns and are badly behaved sometimes-kids try limits all the time-I cannot believe how judgmental people on here are!
  16. The back is horrible Strix (the front is GORGEOUS.) But I've decided it isn't me, not really, and think I found "the one" yesterday. I had a moment in the shop, which I went to on my own, and am wondering about being naughty and not telling anyone except from my mum if I go for it. It's so beautiful, and so me. Should be able to get back quite a lot for the other dress as we got it really cheap in the sale. Potential buyers do not need to know this. They will think they are getting a huge bargain, and the money lost to us will hopefully be minimal! Eeeeeeeeeek now I know how people feel when they talk about "just knowing" !!! Leah- - you will have to have another project afterwards-next week you could start planning a 10 year anniversary vow renewal
  17. How about copying us? The Old Rectory at Handsworth is lovely-and extremely reasonable! Plus they are happy for you to bring in outside catering-so we are having Lorna from Heavenlies do us a cream tea for the wedding breakfast, then the venue are doing us an elaborate cheeseboard for the evening. Really cuts costs by being able to pick and choose who does your catering! Only 163 days to go for me!!!! Good luck with the search, so exciting isn't it?!
  18. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek I've just seen how soon your wedding is Leah actually (will teach me to read posts properly)! How nervous and excited must you be right now!!
  19. I didn't have "the one" feeling Just more like...."Jesus I'm so bored of this now, I make everything look hideous, this is no better or worse than the others so I'll take it" Leah that's the problem with wedding dresses-the wedding takes so long to bloody roll around that tastes change! I'm glad to hear that the problem seems normal though-one of my two bridesmaids is married and she texted me last night, seemingly telepathically knowing how I was feeling. She said it's normal. I'm sure I'll love it again next week Thanks for your replies. It's alright for men-all he has to do outfit wise is get measured for the suit I've picked* *joking, obviously, before the Bridzilla accusations start flying
  20. I am so sorry for your loss. What a beautiful post, you've articulated so well feelings I'm sure we all recognise. Sleep tight Sheba xxxx
  21. :hihi: Wow you're going to look gorgeous, that's beautiful! Four Thank God it's not just me-how difficult did you find it to sell the other dresses? (if you have!)
  22. Oh my God. I finally decided on a dress 6 weeks ago. It's a beautiful dress. But now, looking at pictures of me in it, I'm not sure I like it. Has anyone else had this problem with five months to go 'til their wedding? I need someone to tell me it's normal to have dress wobbles as I'm in a serious tizzy!!!! What a mess
  23. I Durham's cool, demure crossed paws approach to life!
  24. :hihi: Shame we've taught Jet only real ale is acceptable upon entering the pub
  25. You mean you don't want the hassle? Just be honest. I am 99 per cent sure the cat will come round if you give it time. What it needs is to be ignored pretty much until she feels ready to "join in" with the household, so not exactly extremely time consuming. The phrase "We just need her gone asap" just makes me very sad.
