  1. Really glad I opted to not go to this game, thank god for housework! Doesn't sound like they're pulling any trees up, but it will take time. All we can hope for is that it doesn't take so long that we're constantly chasing a play-off position in the final third of the season (like the past two). Billy Sharp, I've said it before and I'll say it again, is an average player at best. He did well last season because he was surrounded by poor players so naturally he will shine. This season the squad is better so he just blends into the background. He may come good again as it's early days but I don't have too much faith in that regard. What we need to really understand is that United are not a championship side who are "stuck" in league one. United are an average league one side who need consistent performances to make progress. The faster we understand what we are and not what we were, the happier we'll all be.
  2. Carl Veart, Aussie striker. I had his name on the back of my first shirt, which I wore to the 97 Palace play off final. Veart was on the bench...for Palace. Don't blame me, I was 13.
  3. Hi all, I like to check any Blades news on the BBC website, today though their headlines made me chuckles out loud. First story: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/35595209 Second Story: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/35611555 Tickled me awfully at lunchtime UTB.
  4. Hi all, I'm the bass player for a well established Sheffield band called Whispers in the Attic, who have been looking to recruit a new drummer for some time. We're female fronted with a diverse range of interests, and as such the music is hard to label as one genre but we've mainly been described as the above. We've played many gigs around Sheffield, as well as in Barnsley, Warrington, Rotherham and Wakefield and were planning further trips until our previous drummer had to leave. We're looking for some one like minded, looking to record and play live and who wants to have fun while playing! Here's our first music video: If you're interested and would like to know more, please get in touch via PM or on here Thanks, ekke
  5. Come on lads, lets keep it on topic
  6. The lack of Blades on here confirms that a lot have seen enough this season already. As a Blade though I'll be around, I don't mind the comments from the Blues because at the moment they are obviously the far better side. In terms of the game, I stopped listening at half time but initially was contemplating going. Chasing 2 goals is usually enough to admit defeat on current form. In terms of Adkins I'm on the fence at the moment. He needs time and some much better signings to have any impact. The team generally don't seem to care about playing / chasing / attacking, and we're consistently fielding a team of average "happy to get a wage" players who aren't chasing a top 2 position. There are a number of players who should be sent out or sold, some of who are down to NA, but too many to name. As I've said in previous posts, we've made average signings of average players, ergo we're an average team. Top 2 is highly unlikely, and play-offs is a push (but we know how that will work out), so I reckon a mid table finish and look on to next season when hopefully NA will be more settled in. I do object however to posters pointing out the status of our opposition, as it's irrelevant in any league (Leicester the best team in England at the moment for instance). Teams come to the lane and attack. If they win it's our failure, not their lack of a high status.
  7. That would imply that they actually wanted to be there in the first place, which I think is the current problem.
  8. 4-1, turning into a joke and sounds like people are leaving 2 mins in to second half.
  9. Hi all, This might be a controversial topic, but I would like to have an open and unbaited discussion on the subject to prove that this can be an area for football fans to discuss in harmony. Now, I'm a big Blades fan and have been all my life. One of my close friends is a big Owls fan likewise. I went out with him recently for a few beers and we started talking football as we usually do and the subject title came to mind. This was because I explained to him that the season when the Owls beat the Blades to promotion, to me as a Blade, was probably one of the best seasons I can remember (though this is hard to admit). Both sides of the city were passionate to prove themselves and each was fuelled of the other to push further. It was an exciting time for Sheffield football. I asked him, wouldn't you want that again if we got promoted? His answer was simple, No, I hate derbies. His reasoning is generally about bragging rights and banter with his workmates, and he can't sleep for days before the game through nerves. So, I ask you Blades and Owls alike, do you want the derbies back? Do you love them or hate them? Let's try and avoid the baiting that we've come to expect, and the "my dad is bigger than your dad" kind of banter, just an honest discussion to show we can have one.
  10. This is my worry atm Mel, we're dropping far too many points that will haunt us at the end of the season (like previous seasons). Think we're looking at a mid table finish atm, would love to be proved otherwise though.
  11. Taking a stab here at trying to get this thread back on topic. As a Blade I will admit that I am worried about this season, not solely from this game but from previous games that we should also have walked. Before the game NA was interviewed and he said that we "were moving the right direction" which made me laugh out loud (or lol as the kids say) as we've been progressively moving down the table for the past few games. For me, NA has inherited some average players and made some average signings. Therefore the team is average. We might get a play off place this season (that no-one wants) but I think the top 2 is very unlikely at this stage unless something turns around and fast. Like a previous poster said, other teams just seem to want it more.
  12. £8.3m per season to build a champion league 1 side, with 3 seasons grace to do it. I'm not sure I'm convinced that this is as difficult as it's made out to be. 8 signings per season at 1m each would be more than enough considering the quality of players in this league.
  13. Hi all, Sorry if this is the wrong board, not sure where to put it! Does anyone know how I can get rid of my old fridge unit? It's one that was built into the cupboard, so it's just the half size unit and not sure if I can take it to the dump recycling bit? Ideally I'd take it to a scrap place to get a bit of bob, but not sure where / who could take it, or even if someone could collect it direct from our house. Any advice appreciated! Ta, Ekke
  14. My game review - First half was a joke. We were second to every ball, lost possession very quickly and (bar the odd fluke shot) had no attacking threat and no midfield presence. Colchester took their two goals well, there were call for offside on the second but personally I thought it wasn't and I got the impression that they would've scored again had it be given anyway. Their midfield and forwards walked through our backline like a hot knife through butter, I can't really name any stand out players for us in defence and Mceveley was shockingly bad both and the back and moving forward. A first half side note - I'm not sure why the Colchester scorer for their first wasn't booked for baiting the crowd, standing in front of the kop with his hand to his ear. Second half we started well, came out with a bit of fight and it looked like we'd woken up a bit. The penalty was a penalty no doubt, but we were lucky the linesman spotted the keeper off the line otherwise we'd have failed to capitalise. Second goal was well worked, and Woolford finished well. Back at 2-2 we did our usual game and decided to take our foot of the gas and for a good 15-20 minutes it looked like it could've gone either way. Lo and behold a Colchester strike takes a deflection and we're back to 1 down. The second penalty with just under 10 to go was the perfect chance to get something from the game, albeit a point, especially as they lost a player also. But failing to convert meant we were resigned to giving up all the points. Overall we were poor, with only a couple of players giving a good performance. I was impressed with JCR's work rate, but he often found a lack of options going forward to eventually get muscled off the ball. McNulty had a positive impact too when he came on. Now for the negatives. Howard scares me with his vacant looking around when a stray ball goes over his head. His clearances were poor and I felt he could've done better with the second goal. He made a good save against their free kick that was dipping in, but other than that he was relying on the ball coming straight at him. McEveley looks like he has no confidence at all in general play, and seems unable to play a pass to feet forward, relying instead on going back. The back four in general looked all over the place, they need a clear leader there to keep them in shape. Midfield (bar JCR) there was no threat and no space. Players were reluctant to get into a good position and were crowded out when they decided to make a move (usually much too late). Billy Sharp, I'm sorry but I don't rate him. 2 out of 3 penalties missed essentially in one game and little threat up front. I think he's passed his time and is a sub striker at best. Adams and McNulty are far better players, and Higdon should be sold as he adds nothing to the squad. Very, very poor showing from the Blades last night. Changes need to made now, otherwise these lost points will cost us at the end of the season. (Sorry on spelling / names. It's early and I've had no coffee yet)
