  1. Try the new golf bar, Green (off Tripet Lane/West St, opposite Cubanna)? http://www.citygolfbar.com/
  2. i spent 8 years living and working in london - had a great time, it's definitely one of the major cities in the world (and i've been to a few). but i think for what it is, it's best for tourists and young professionals wanting to climb the ladder and make some money. having moved to sheffield 2 years ago - i don't really miss london much (i've done my time!). you can't really compare the two, neither can you compare london to l**ds/manchester/newcastle etc. sheffield is a great place with bags of character and deffo a better quality of life (there are a few down points, but everywhere has). so it's sheffield all the way for me (for the time being anyway!)
  3. went there last night as everytime i walk past it's closed or empty (felt sorry for them). not good impression - the staff was unprofessional/nervous (i ordered a lemonade and was brought the bill), food was OK and not worth the price, the music was embarrassing (cheesy pop).... i eat out a lot; went to silversmiths and wig and pen a few days before and they are so much more better in comparision. shame, as sheffield needs more good restaurants... i think the management need to up their game if they are going to make the business work.
  4. went there the other day for lunch (again wasn't that busy) - it's definitely a cheap and cheerful place. not somewhere to go to impress a date, but good for quick snack. you get what you pay for i guess.
  5. Tickets are now on sale through above outlets...

  7. Yes - it should be a good night. Sophie Mei who was on 'Britain's Got Talent' will be opening the show and also be one of the judges alongside Sandra from Spice Yorkshire and Ralph from Razor Stiletto. While Debora D'luxe from Peek-a-boo will be the compere for the evening. Doors will open from 5.30pm and start around 6pm!
  8. wasabisabi is independent, i.e. there's only one and it's right here in sheffield!
  9. 'New Indian Restaurant'??? Didn't it open a while ago like last summer? Walk past it quite a lot in the evenings and it never looks that busy (though admittedly it does look quite smart inside).
  10. Can you tell me what time you expect the event to finish? Thanks
  11. Erm, yes, it's true... (heard it from a reliable source)
  12. Try Wild Rice on London Road - not sure if they delivery to Walkley. Sorry, don't have their number...
  13. got my tickets this morning (stalls sold out within an hour so had to get circle). shame city hall is all seats; she should do the gig at the new Academy (Roxy)! can't wait.
  14. Glad it's being extended to Sunday, gives me the chance to pop down this weekend to have look! Apparently the man himself, Willard, is going to be there...
  15. I hope you are being sarcastic Patrick2000. It's a very very sad state of affairs if a generic chain restaurant/bar like La Vina is classed as a place to be seen in Sheffield...
  16. Erm - the above post was suppose to be tongue in cheek. End of the day it's about the quality of the food, service, and value for money of restaurant what matters. And I agree with Bago about his comments on food being 'Westernised' for the English palate. I've been to China and ate in restaurants there; and believe you me it was very different to what we have here. Again, end of the day, the restaurant trade is a business which caters for their customer's needs...
  17. I guess sushi, yaki soba noodles, saki, tempura isn't very Japanese. They don't eat those sort of things in Japan! I can't believe The Independent newspaper recommended the restaurant on several occasions. Judging by how busy they always are when I walk pass in the evenings, there must be lots of gullible 'average Sheffielders' out there... Shame on you. Hey ho - back to me fish n' chips and pint of ale.
  18. If that's the case, bring it on! Another good reason to live in Sheffield! Lived in Lahndahn for a while, and 'The Lock' and 'Keston Lodge' (another pub they owned) were wicked places to hang out and listen to some decent music. They tend to attract the kool indie kids/art students (!). A bit like The Grapes meets Muse... (the pubs not the bands) Just need Vibe magazine who own 'Old Blue Last' down Old St in Lahndahn to buy a pub up here - which is more of a dirty boozer kinda place. Though The Cremorne is doing a pretty good job so far.
  19. leeds is more commercially minded and ambitious; with a stronger focus on retail (mainly big chains), business and have a more commercial nightlife (Tiger Tiger, Living Room, Slug & Lettuce...) while sheffield is more creative, independent, green; with a stronger focus on culture, sports, and have a more leftfield nightlife (The Grapes, DQ, Dulo..). i know which i prefer...
  20. hello, i'm currently organising a focus group, and need a few people to come along to talk about their views on various social activities. date - monday 13th november place - ruskins bar, tudor square time - 8pm to 9pm so if you are: - 25yrs - 40yrs - live in sheffield - in work - interested in making the most of life - and are not a member of Spice Yorkshire so if you are interested in helping out, please drop me a PM. BTW - there will be free wine/beer and snacks on offer! thanks ben
  21. I read that too - it paints quite a 'nice, travelling first class' sort of story. Which is fine, but if you go, you just have make sure you have your wits about you and understand that some of these people are quite poor and haven't seen a tourist/western before... But as I said - it's definitely worth going on. You'll come back with loads of interesting stories to tell down the pub!
  22. I did Beijing to Mongolia, then Mongolia to Mosow via Russia Experience too. It was definitely an experience - good and bad. Good - seeing some amazing scenery (deserts, lakes, mountains, little Russian towns, forests...), camping out in the Mongolian desert (seeing the night sky and milky way), mixing with the locals, not seeing a McDonalds/Starbucks anywhere in Mongolia... Bad - seems like the only market they have out there (esp between Mongolia and Moscow) is the black market! can be scary at times when there's a carriage full of drunk locals carrying various 'western goods' (namely demin jeans) around. And managed to get my 'money bag' stolen - they seem to think all tourists are loaded so doesn't matter if they took your money! But overall a great 'once in a lifetime' experience. Go for it.
  23. Erm, if you carried on reading the article, it states that; She said: "It was a junior-level decision and it happened to go into print which was an error basically. "I think it was certainly not a council policy that we should call the lights winter lights." The article was basically highlighting the reactions to one person's decision to change the words just before going to print, and does not reflect Lambeth council's policy...
  24. as happyhippy said, depends what night etc. but boho, on campo lane, behind the cathedral is a nice bar that's away from the crowds of west st/division st. or bath hotel pub, next to west one, cool little room at the back which you could try to take over...
  25. boho on campo lane looks pretty smart - modern french cuisine. haven't eaten there yet, but the menu looks classy.
