  1. Look at this thread. I basically asked the same question as you. I am a University student and live locally. New students often ask me what can I do in Sheffield. The conversation isn't usually very long, so I need some help. Perhaps your post will help. http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=143770
  2. Davians chipshop in rotherham (near where I live) £1.70 for chips, fish, rissole or sausage and beans, peas or curry. Not bad eh! Or £1.20 for same as before but no fish. Good portion sizes
  3. I'm honestly not trying to sell my website (as in an advert) but I'm trying to put on some good free downloadable e-books on my website (see link below then freebooks). I am asking your opinion about e-books because I feel that there is a lot of potential with them as an invaluable addition to tradational books. I also feel that E-books are perhaps best suited to a learning environment e.g. E-textbooks, of course their price needs to be reduced (as high quality e-textbooks are quite expensive). The high price maybe due to piracy, as well as greed (low distribution costs). I think it would be great if every textbook that comes with a CD e.g. Molecular Biology of the Cell came with a free E-book version of the book (i.e. same as textbook but electronic in format) This would make it easy to print out pages (for revision, I doubt anyone would try and sell print out books print costs would be high). Those that don't come with CD's could have a link to a website where you could download at no additional charge?? Linking back to my origonal point if anyone knows any good free e-book sites (E-textbooks in particular) then it will help a lot. Thanks for any interest in this topic.
  4. Not long ago many bookstores began to shudder in their boots. Paper textbooks are out-of-date we will all be reading E-Books on our computers, laptops, PDA's and mobile phones. A few years on and nothing. Books are still as popular as ever, Paper textbooks are still preferred by students and there is arguably no portable device that can display e-books in a way that we want to read them i.e. light, easy to read in any light level, be able to write notes onto it or is cheap. Am I correct are E-books unpopular? What do you think? I guess if we want E-content we go to a website and view it for free (Wikipedia anyone?) and if we want a reliable static source of information or enjoyment we buy a book? Does anyone read E-books here? If not why? Any comments appreciated about E-books helpful.
  5. I think it may make criminals famous (infamous) and more likely to offend to improve their rankings and get more photos of themselves online.
  6. seems like we've all got to get used to all these security checks. From shouting CCTV cameras that tell you off, to more body searches. Whats next........ RFID tags in ID Cards linked to google earth. Please don't post any ideas about how they can track us next.

  10. spotting people with ginger beards at the peace gardens is a good thing to do. No offence to anyone with ginger hair (lots of famous ginger celebes), or beards (sign of wisdom all wise wizards have beards). Or a combination therof. Just thought I couldn't start a topic without putting forward an idea.
  11. While at university, I often get asked what can I do in sheffield? So I'd like to start this topic. Basically what I'm hoping for is a list of great things to do, eat, or whatever in sheffield. But not just the usuall stuff like go to leadmill or whatever. I can then refer people to this topic.
  12. loosechange letsroll911 in plane site these are all good websites, google them. They don't propose conspiracy theories, instead they show evidence that everyone has access to e.g. news reports, videos, official pictures etc. They then ask questions relating to what we can all see e.g. why are there flashes before the plane hit. (Not reflection) as flashes can be seen from multiple angles. How come when we watch towers falling there are mini dust explusions (look like explosions) 30 or more floors below the collapsing area? Check it out. I'm not saying it was a conspiracy or anything, but clearly there is mor to 911 than meets the eye. It is ignorant to just accept facts rather than find out for yourself. With the internet itis easy to do do. Checkit out (at least to reaffirm to yourselves that the official story offers a complete picture of the tradegy of 911. God bless the victims.
  13. a good range of options thanks for the input. I've only just joined the forum here and I'm glad I did.
  14. How much is the travel master and how long does it last for, the unirider lasts for a whole semester Sept-Dec.
  15. Hi everyone, I am a student and need to travel between Sheffield and Rotherham. I prefer to travel on a combination of buses and the supertram. My question is does anyone kno of any cheap passes etc. to help me get the best deal, i tried unirider last year but it has got more expensive now, so a cheaper alternative might exist. Any thoughts will help.
  16. I bought my HP computer just over a year ago and it has a 120Gb Samsung hard drive. When I switch it on it tells me that it is going to fail and I have to press F2 to continue. XP boots up as normal and I don't get any errors, all programs work fine (other than the message everything is ok). I know I should backup, is it possible to transfer all the data to an external harddrive and the boot from that without having to reinstall anything. Any ideas will help.
