Just had an invoice through for my allotment and the rent has doubled from last year! I wasn't consulted about a 100% rent increase, nor was my friend or any other allotment holder I know. I suspect this council is getting greedy and / or they're wanting to force people off so they can sell the land.

Its not defeatist, you can find work more easily on incapacity / ESA than JSA. Going straight for some sickness benefits is simpler, easier and makes it far more likely for them too find employment, when you're down on your luck why make life harder for yourself to find employment by claiming JSA?

When you consider the harrasment, unecessary sanctions and misery JSA claimants face, it is far more sensible to just aim for ESA / incapacity.

What you'd rather us keep all our empty shop units instead? We should be doing almost everthing we can to stimulate growth and create employment.

Incapacity type benfits are different from DLA or PIP as it will son be renamed, even incapicity or ESA is now harder to claim but still easier than claiming JSA.

We have to be realistic here, the vast majority of the long term unemployed are unlikely to ever find employment ever again, so what are the alternatives? They should go for incapacity type benefits as this is their only hope of ever getting more income, and less harassment. Roles amongst the benefit claimants are now swapping, the unemployed now see the disabled as 'lucky' they're jealous of them because they're on a better money and don't have to sign on, worry or deal with sanctions or work in Poundland for their dole money.

If just one council can do it they all can reclassify their 2 beds as one beds, even my dog can work this out. Yes Leeds has accepted change and welcomes BME's. It doesn't matter how much you love Sheffield, the city council will never love you back. Sheffield is odd and insular but maybe this parochialism which holds us back is something we could try and capitalise on?

With Leeds beating Sheffield in every category (bar from us having steeper hills) can Sheffield strive to be anything different or even begin to compete with Leeds? If so how?
