  1. My 10 year old VW went to a main dealer for a service, I was told that all my discs we scored, the turbo was Knackered, rear shock absorbers were leaking, the two front wheel bearings were shot and the break pipes were corroded. At my MOT due in a month or so it would cost me £1400.00. a call from the service manager said it is time to change your car we have some very good used cars. Last week I toot it to a reputable MOT testing station it passed with 1 advisory 1 wheel bearing. It cost me £50.00 for the test and £75.00 for the bearing £10225 saved. Dont trust main dealers they look for work and charge £60.00 per hour for labour.
  2. Just let her do what she wants, it is not about you let them make their own mistakes it is the only way they learn. She might prove you wrong leave her alone to make her own decisions, qualifications are not a ticket to success it is the person
  3. Christopher Columbus, to my recollection of history he was born in Genoa Italy. He was not a British explorer, and I thought it was Francis Drake, but thats my opinion. If the people on the show have no concept of the past then they should keep their mouth shut until they are in possession of their facts. If they are going to run a business then they should put brain in gear be for opening mouth.
  4. Thanks for that, problem is she still has all her marbles she is just a biggited and grumpy old woman. She has been to church and social events, but no one wants to be with her, because of her attitude. As we live approx a mile from the main road down a track the use of taxi's is frequent when I take my car in for a service or MOT I get a taxi home a local company from Inverness, they will not pick her up because of her insults. Only yesterday I got a taxi from the VW dealers garage to home as my car was in for an MOT the taxi driver asked my destination I told him the address and quote"Is that the same place the mad woman lives" I said yes it is my mother in law, when we arrived home I asked the fare he said have this on me you deseve it for what you have to put up with. The £12 fare wem to MFR Radio cash for klds. Sorry for the rant Just for your info the reason why we use taxi's is that we live in a remote area close to Castle Stuart.
  5. I did think of hem o lock, but not sure where to get it from. Thanks
  6. whitehorses thanks for the advice, we will be going back down to Leeds to stay with my son at the end of July for 2 weeks. I do feel that it is wrong that we have to go away from home when we moved up here as part of our dream, an idyllic house on the banks of the Moray Firth. Thanks again
  7. I would like to supplement my Mother in Laws diet, who is a pain in the nether regions. My neighbor will not let me use his JCB to dig a hole 6ft deep so for my sanity I need an alternative solution. She has lived with us now for 6 years and me and my wife are close to splitting up, because of the bigoted old bitch. The Happy pills might work because coming home to someone chewing a mouth of wasps is not good, but the situation is now going to ruin our 35 years of marriage, she refuses to go as she says " at 80 I cannot move out" My wife is torn between me and her mum. Help please if you have any advice
  8. I could not believe the appeal on TV to donate £3.00 per month so that the hospital can continue to treat sick children. As the government gone mad when a children's hospital needs donations so they can care for our children. Putting that to one side our elderly and all of us have to, and are still paying NI contributions where is that brass going to. I find the appeal insulting and well out of order, they can spend millions on a high speed rail link and widening the M25 when it comes to health they expect Joe public to cough up to fund what Westminster will not fund. What next Sheffield,Leeds, Manchester,Glasgow, Inverness and many more, will they be appealing for funds to keep the hospitals open so they can treat children and all that need care
  9. Hi Oldm, I was there from 64 to 68 we moved from the town centre to Gleedless and I remember most of my time there. We used to go to the Punch Bowl pub to have a fag and of course we had Hurfield girls at the side my first love I met over the fence while we were playing rugby. Those were the days, but Pop Gregory caught ut at the punch Bowl smoking and I remember I had a pack of 10 Gold leaf, he made me smoke the rest in the school playing fields where I was sick. Then I got 3 strokes of his cane. My name is Dave Theaker the ones I remember are Steve Nicholson, Brian Chapman and many more. Very fond memories Dave
  10. Well said we had a second chance at 13 and we were given a strict regime that prepared us with knowledge and discipline for the years ahead. It was not easy by any means, but at 60 it taught me manners and the ability to think for myself and treat others with respect. Don Woolhouse was my House Master and what a great person, in fact from Pop Gregory to Sally Hughes I look back and feel privileged to receive that education.
  11. I changed from BT to Pipex all ok untill there was a fault, that is when the problems started. Spending hours on the phone to their call centres speaking to people that had a difficulty with the English Language I gave up. I then went back to BT in Feb 2011 it has taken till now June 2011, because of Pipex. This company has no regard for it's customers or their complaints just their income.
  12. I feel that Scotland and her islands have more coastal waters than England, you are correct that the waters around Scotland are owned by the Crown, but the Crown is the government. Not sure that Westminster(The Crown) have invested into Oil exploration or even development, but feel that they can take taxes without any input. I do not agree with independence, but feel we get a raw deal up here. Why can we not have a motorway network like England has, and have dual carriageways paid for by North Sea Oil. If Westminster want the revenue from Scotland then they should give us the same services
  13. Why not they are keeping fit and active, and more to the point young kids (not all of them) would not get out of their bed. Some of them have a problem going to school.
  14. Do you live in Scotland and if not shut up. Scotland will never vote for Independence, but the SNP has given Scotland and its people more than Westminster has. Where in England do they build oil platforms, build wave power machines and support them.
  15. What a sad person you must be, if all you can do is find fault with spelling and grammer then you need to get out more. Do you have a degree in Mathmatics Physics or Chemistry. Or are you an English/History student. Back of and read the content of a post and stop acting like a pratt
  16. I find more old people have lost their manners and expect all other people to respect their presence. This also is on the road and their attitude to other road users. While the younger people in our community are ignorant and arrogant, it is far less than the older people
  17. Cannot understand how 2 populars 40 ft and 2 black ash are now becoming a problem. How long have you lived there, the problem you describe will have taken over 20 years to cause a problem, why now moan or are you a new owner if so why buy the property. If you have been there over 20 years why have you not talked to neigheour your story does not stand up with respect.
  18. I can not believe your post, do you want people on benefits to be issued with free seeds. You do not need an allotment to grow your own. Are you trying to provoke an argument. You can grow your own in pots,
  19. Trust I was from the 60's listning to 208, radio 270, radio London (Big L) and Caroline, If your input is for spelling, then so be it.
  20. What memories it was normal after a few pints in town to get a bag of chestnuts, if they were bad so what all was eaten. We also used to have the cockle man in the pubs at the weekend, sadley we dont see this anymore and of corse we had Nora the Pond street Queen. The garage across the road at the entrance to the multi storay was open when the Pond street Kiosk was closed. We went out and had a fun night with little if any problems, today sadly this is not the case, Good post
  21. I live in the North East of Scotland and we have few dual carrageways, but those that sit in the second lane & 40mph when the speed limit is 60mph is it any wonder people become frustrated. As a Yorkshire man I travel frequently back to Sheffield and Leeds the nearest 3 lane motorway is the M74 160miles away. The standard of driving is on the motorways is dangerous they sit in the middle lane at 56mph and will not move and I am sorry the age group is 70+ with no awareness of the road. There are caravans, motor Homes and those with a mobility car who cause more accidents and problems on the road, and before I get abuse not all those with a mobility car are not the majority. The A9 is one of the dangerous roads and every time we here of a fatal accidents it is allways people over 70. We have signs up here which say "PLEASE ALLOW OVERTAKING AS FRUSTRATION CAUSES ACCIDENTS" It say's it all
  22. How do you know that they doing 40 mph + have you got a speed camera?
  23. Sorry you do not deserve respect regardles of who you are I will say again YOU EARN RESPECT.
  24. Sorry to disappoint you I am a proud Yorkshire Man and nothing to do with the Scottish Nationalist's.
  25. Lets get a few points straight. Nobody tells me to "listen" I have my oppinion and when all said and done this is a forum where people can express their views. Not sure what you mean about the "BETTER" people of this country, I thought we were all equal and deserve to be treated as such. With regards to your ROYALTY and we are their subjects forget it we pay for them and not sure what they have done for me (as a subject). Respect is earned not a right regardless of who you are.
