  1. hi disco ....... sorry to disappoint you but u blatently havent been chatting to the management as they dont play anything like that!! they have put on the floorfillers that used to be at Gatecrasher 1 pre fire on a sat night so its good quality commercial dance (and no scouse house!!) fridays are a bit querky too.... they have the guys that do plug on a thurs night i think at least the brandin is really simular & so is the name (cant remember it off the top of my head) and they play loads of party anthems & its just a real good laugh. Ive been messaged on facebook about a Wii party there this fri - sounds like a giggle!! Scouse house ................ i think u r wrong mi ol china ..... sorry
  2. I have to say that i find this TOTALLY offensive, i started off as a member of staff in a local pub and decided i liked it, i enjoyed the cusomer service eliment, the conversation with the customer and delivering a high stanard every single day i turn up to work. since then i have worked my way up, through nightclubs to support myself through my university studies, and on to open two of the best venues in sheffield (crystal and Ivory) and to be honest, there is no place to hide when you run or work in a venue where people expect a high standard of service and standards, you have to be ontop of your game every single day or you lose customers, its as simple as that!! I digress, back to my point, i have achieved this and am very proud of my achievements but would still consider myself a bartender, and i am very proud of it!
  3. Irony at its very best i think!!!! Im not saying that i think kingdom is very good, but i have to say that between a choice of their or Leadmill i think i would rather learn the lost art of crochet!!! :hihi: But with gun at my head and arm up my back i think Kingdom would win the battle. Rumours around it closing on new years have been going around eve since i worked there, and that is 2/3 years past now, to be honest, it may not be a contentder for nightclub of the year but it still fills a need in the market. I have heard rumour of the planned changes to the kingdom by Brook Leisure and i have to say they are all to be commended for thier inventiveness and ingenuity if it comes off as i think it would once again become a real big draw in the city centre. Best of luck to them i say
  4. I think that this is a really interesting thread for a couple of reasons: I ate there recently purely because of this thread, in all honesty i had forgotten that the blue room existed, this thread put it back into mind and i went there for my birthday, so inadvertently, have the protesters done themselves a disservice!?! I am not saying that i either agree nor dis agree with the production of fois gras, truth be told i haven't read enough about it or ever sold it at one of the establishments ive ever worked at to have an opinion on either merits of cruelty nor taste. But, just to throw the cat amongst the pigeons so to speak, do you think that the Lion or the shark has a moral dilemma about being the top of their food chain? I understand the ethics of it all, and think that yes we are duty bound by our 'intelligence' to be responsible for the things that we eat etc etc... but if you strip it back to its rawest terms, we are animals who eat! as are any others, the only difference is that we feel the need to justify ourselves. I’m not saying that this is my opinion, but just a thought to ponder!! Congratulations to the Blue room by the way on collecting the BEST RESTAURANT AWARD at the exposed awards last week.
  5. Hi guys, just wanted to thank anyone and everyone who voted in the exposed magazine awards, last night was the night and we picked up BEST NEW RESTAURANT, and its all thanks to you - the customer. I would also like to say congats to allthe other winners & entrants in the award, it was great to see such a diverse range of people at the awards last night. Thanks to Simon from exposed for a great night (hes not bad on the turn tables either - just so you know), and thankyou to DQ for hosting. Im off to nurse this hang over!!! Ben Ivory
  6. Thankyou very much, just to clarify - i dnt often wander around (or post information) under the name of nicolasg, that would be a friend of mine that used my laptop and remained logged in here from months ago, lol, nevermind, glad you enjoyed them, we will see you sunday :) :)
  7. Hi guys, just want to let you know that Paulsher doesnt work at the ivory, it really disappoints me that whenever puts anything really positive about any venue on the forum they just get accused of working there!! Cheers, Ben Ivory
  8. Thankyou - well see you there on the 29th then
  9. PROGESS AT LAST!!! Sundays - here is the plan: Jazz Sunday Brunch, eggs benedict, american pancake stack & the like, a live musician and a really chilled atmosphere - launching on sunday the 5th november (thats 2 days after my birthday if your interested!!) Sunday nights im really excited about - Simply sundays; LAUNCHES ON THE 29TH OF THIS MONTH £3 ALL cocktails and £2 all bottled beers, a soul & funk DJ and hopefully just a really good party atmosphere - we hope that a lot of bartenders will come up and blow off steam from a busy weekend
  10. Hi guys, Just wanted to let you know that as of Sunday the 29th of this month we are launching "Simply Sunday" at he Ivory Its going to be £3 for any cocktail an £2 for any bottled beer - its that simple!! Were also going to put on a soul / funk DJ, we will be open until mid night - you fancy it?
  11. All i could recomend to anyone is: if you leave you drink out of your sight for even a second or two just go and buy a fresh one - seriously, its worth spending an extra 3 quid on!! In crowded places drink bottles and keep a finger in the top of it whenever its not firmly attached to your lips!!! In my pre - cocktail bar days i learned my trade in the cities biggest nightclub, occurances of this sort of thing were, im very saddened to say, a regular occurance. Whilst the door staff were exceptionally good in dealing with it, and all praise must go to them as the front line of first aid, there were some instances that were too severe for them to handle and paramedics were called into the scene. I think if the people responsible could see some of the things i have witnessed then just one ounce of morallity would mean they would never do anything like this again!! They disgust me
  12. I have to say that the whole experiance of a carvery reminds me of standing in line with all my class mates many moons ago waiting to see what the dinner ladies had cooked up for us that day, However, you cant argue with numbers - for example Toby Carvey its just PACKED. I cant think of a good place in the city thats been successful doing sunday lunches - and i mean proper sunday lunch I will do my upmost to cut a sway through this trend and be the first to do a good quality, properly served sunday lunch. Ben @ Ivory
  13. Pretty soon we will be opening again on sundays - special offers on cocktails and bottled beers, should be doing it pretty soon as well, anyone interested then PM me for more details. Oh and whilst ive got your attention on sundays - what do you guys think to Sunday lunch, the only places that seem to be busy are carverys, is that what people want from a sunday dinner? Im determined to open again on sundays for lunch but would you guys prefer a carvey or a traditional restaurant service? cheers, Ben @ Ivory
  14. I can assure you that the guy you are reffering to is not Italian, he is english born and bred!. As for the straws that you are referring to and all the great bars that you have visited in London, you obviously haven't been to Atlantic (Oliver Peyton and DICK BRADSELL), Circus, Sound, Claridges etc etc all of which place sip straws in your drinks, enabling the customer to stir their drink, not just for the sole purpose of drinking. We know this as he worked and managed most of these bars at some time another!!!
