  1. In the 1980's that one was played in our student house as we got ready to go out to Rebels or the Roxy.
  2. There tends to be a link between those who argue "speed is not a problem" and them being ************************************ Fill in as you please, there are lots of choices.
  3. I thought that this thread was going to be about another reimaging of Conrad's Heart of Darkness...
  4. The Pub at Heeley bridge left its plastic snowmen lights on the wall till about a month ago.... the garden centre on the way in to wakefield still has its up! Its not just private houses...
  5. Funny it is the persons first post...funny
  6. Coconut mushrooms - mmmmmmmmm - but buy a quarter and eat them all - you end up feeling "reeet badly"
  7. I mentioned living in a free, open, relatively peaceful country - could you move to other places and buy these things? The only countries with overall, better standards of living on all fronts (life expectancy, crime rates, educational attainment etc) are places like Norway - which has a higher rate of tax I think part of the problem of the modern world is the "sit at home watching sky TV" mentality - where everything is lowered to what package you chose to buy. Many things are hard to cost, but they are still important. Thats why Maggie was so wrong - there is such a thing as society, and it is really important.
  8. No, you said that the country "owes" you. I am saying that there are many elements of living here that we all take for granted.
  9. I find that hard to believe - how did you price education, health care and living in a free, generally peaceful and rich country vs how much tax you pay
  10. This is not the point - the term "chav" is more aimed at somebody who makes poor life choices and/or shirks individual responsibility. Being benefit dependant is not a chav defining characteristic, but youth accepting it as a career is.
  11. It cant be won, because as soon as we get near to a conclusion, the faith brigade either ignore the posts, use the "no true scotsman" defence or change the subject
  12. Yes... but "an evasive christian does not generally respond to posts about the horrid bits of the bible" anon
  13. I'm afraid I'm a very lightweight goose indeed - my favourite philosopher to read is A C Grayling - he is modern, easy to read and seems to take a great mix n match approach. His book "What Is Good?: The Search for the Best Way to Live", really impressed me - it is sort of a clued up verison of an alpha course, but without the silly stuff, god or worry that your bessie mates are going to hell/whatever It is a good, quick read - I reccomend it to everyone on SF. And we have asked him to do a public event for the Sheffield Humanist in Sheffield.... Honk!
  14. Be clear! What do YOU think happens to the souls of those who reject god?
  15. I have just had a takeaway from Balti Ghar it Totley - this has improved my world :love::love:
  16. Graham - it may surprise you to read that I agree with most of what you wrote - all apart from the last sentence. Why do you think people do good who are athiests? (I'm not trying to argue for once, I am just interested in what you think)
  17. No you twist my words - do you need the threat of hell or the promise of love from a supernatural father figure to make you a good person?
  18. That is fine and well. So to be clear - and no evasion please - what do you think happens to the souls/spirits/whatever of a) people who have never heard the teachings of god/jesus b) people like me who actively reject the teachings because they regard them as harmful to morality? I know what will happen to this goose after the final honk. What do you actualy think????
  19. This is a great example of a lack of self awareness "Your views are more valid than theirs". This so sums up why people have a problem with religion and its poisonous ideology.
