  1. Try The Long blondes at Sheffield Uni or The Puppini Sisters at the Leadmill. Sort of punk/indie but very entertaining the both of them. The Long blondes are a local Sheffield Band
  2. There's a great Italian deli in Broomhill just down from Somerfield. Ther's a couple on sharrowvale rd as well
  3. I LOVED Diana Luke and the Slowjams. She was so good. Used to listen to her before nodding off at night. I was so gutted when she left that I phone up and asked what had happened to her. I thought she might have gone back to Canada or something but all they could tell me was she had left the radio station. By luck, I heard her presenting a similar show on Real Radio I think, but by this time it was too late. Diana Luke is a LEGEND!
  4. I totally agree with you on this point. I hate it when I tell people what I do, (work in a children's home) and 95% of people assume the kids are there because they are naughty, evil, uncontrollable, violent etc. etc. These children are here because of unfortunate circumstances such as having no-one to love them and look after them, parental loss, abuse, drug misuse in parents, and most common neglect, not because they are bad. I HATE the stereotypes that children in care are labelled with. THEY ARE NOT BAD KIDS. I admire the resilience of the children that i care for. They have had enought troubles to deal with in such a short time, and problems are bound to come with this. I think many people need to be a little bit more understanding on this issue. And as for those above who suggets children's homes should not exist, I totally disagree with you on this point. Many children struggle to re-integrate into a foster placement or adoption family, and a large amount of foster placements break down. Children's homes can be good short to mid-term placements for children as they receive 24/7 care. It may not be in a family setting, but it provides for example a period of time for children to come to terms with grievance/abuse/seperation from family. It is also essential to make sure suitable foster placements are found that are capoable of dealing with the individual needs of a child, which can vary greatly from child to child. Jofo
  5. I went to the After Dark thing at Don Valley a few years ago and thought it was really tosh. Over -priced and they had a big fence around the bonfire! What's the point?
  6. I was thinking it about it but apparently there's just two of the original lineup performing, the rest gone their sperate ways.
  7. Hi people. I have one spare STANDING ticket for the Muse concert at Hallam Arena on Sat 18th November. I want to swap it for one ticket to see Razorlight at Hallam Arean this Sunday. Must also be standing or good seat. I am NOT selling this Muse ticket and will not accept any cash offers for it. Jofo
  8. I'd go with (top 5) Queens of the Stone Age at leadmill 2001 Muse (supporting Live) at Leeds Town & Country early 2000 (no-one knew who they were and they blew the place away. DJ Shadow at V99 Staffordshire. Incredible DJ, incredible mixer and scratcher. Grandaddy at leadmill summer 2001. Horace Andy at Sheffield Uni

  10. yeah it was a great show, it would be good to see it repeated. I think it started in 1999/2000.
  11. the 12.50 will be for the price of the gig (if it's a gig you're going to) which will be on the main stage or area. Normally, but not always includes free entry to the night club afterwards. They have 3 rooms for that.
  12. Check out John B. He is an amazing DJ, his, new album Electrostep is well worth a listen, mainly a D&B album but with electro, house and breaks thrown in. He is a legend!

  15. I studied spanish at University, but not Catalan. I also met mainly Spanish speakers there, not just Spanish but Italian, Argentinian, French, Brazilian. I didn't have the time to learn Catalan, and the few Catalans that were willing to talk to me either ignored me (refusing to speak Castilian) or prefered Castilian.
  16. Hi I know how much of a problem bullying can be, saw it all the time at school and it's not nice to go through. Obviously you have to get in touch with your school. However, bullying is a very hard thing to identify and stop. And trying to tackle it often makes the bullies try harder. In the meantime, I would do your utmost to biuld your daughter's confidence and self-esteem. She will find it much easier to deal with if she has these. Encourage her to build on her friendships at school, invite them round for tea, take them out cinema, bowling etc. Spend a lot of time with her doing things she enjoys. The only advice I can do to stop bullying is to ignore them, eventually they will go away if they see it doesn't bother someone. Good luck
  17. Hi I'm looking to meet up with and make friends with any Spanish speakers. I'm from sheffield but spent a year in Barcelona and want to keep practicing the lingo here in sheffield. I'm male, 26, into music, gigs, outdoors, film, footy and loads more. Alguien?

  19. Water - fresh, clean, drinkable supply that people only too happily waste. Go anywhere else in the world and you have to buy bottled water.
  20. Yeah I'd be up for running. I often run uo through Endcliffe Park but it's a bit crap on your own. I'm currently in training for the Hellrunner on Sunday October 29th in Cheshire, up dunes, through swamps and rivers, 12 miles of hell basically!! Jofo
  21. Refresh cafe in Broomhill is the only one I know, and also has wireless. Great cakes too!!
  22. Watching neighbours! They waited till the end of the programme before cutting live to New York minutes before the second tower was hit. It's a moment I'll never forget.
  23. Arguments like this really get on my nerves. I cannot believe how many racist people exist in our society. Also especially annoying is when white people start complaining about the number of hispanic and other immigrants entering the U.S. Nearly the entirety of the population of the U.S. is descendent from immigrants from Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America after its "discovery" in the 15th century. A bit hypocritical I think. If we all embraced other cultures we would benefit so much from it. Personally, I liek having friends from France, Poland, Pakistan, Cuba, Ghana etc as when I they bring so much more to our way of life in their traditions, language and knowledge. I also love enjoying the diverse food they bring. The problems that are created do not come from the immigrants but from the narrow-minded racists out there who do their utmost to create a problem. And to all those indigenous white-folk out there, you are just as likely to be descended from Germanic, French or Nordic invaders as to come from purely indigenous descendents. You guys really need to enjoy life a bit more
