  1. a motorcyclist often sits at the 3/4 part of a lane. Which is just the same spot as an offside headlight of a car. So an vehicle further up the road, looking towards the approaching bike and car, may only see the car (in the distance)..and not see the bike. I speak both as a motorcyclist and also after reading lots of research by the motorcycle action groups..
  2. The problem occurs, (if daylight running lights are introduced for everyone), is that the vulnerable or important road users suffer. For example, motorcyclist's headlights will be lost in all the other headlights, making it even harder for car drivers to see them. Emergency service vehicles' lights wont be as effective, even with high beam flashes. Buses wont stand out against other vehicles. As present SYPTE has daylight headlamp running rules for all it's buses and has found a decrease in collisions/accidents. However, that's because it's unique to see a vehicle with headlights on..ie: bus/motorcycle. However, if it becomes the norm.....the 'advantage' is lost.
  3. 1) you're reflected because you didn't receive the support you wished for on this forum. Now you know how the police must feel at times, when they have to deal with the likes of you! 2) The muggers will still be mugging until the cops catch them. So let them catch them, instead of hindering them..both on the day and later... 3) People no doubt could have been killed...but more likely by the muggers in the stolen car...who haven't received the training that the police officer had. 4) "The way they use their power" you have a problem with? How can that be? The cops were doing their job, using their 'power' to try and catch the muggers or the car thieves...Why is that 'abusing their powers'? Or are you talking about how the cops spoke to you? I think it's unlikely that you spoke to them in a decent manner...I bet you didn't call them 'd.i.c.k.h.e.a.d.s', did you? ;) ;)
  4. Magna centre is it's new home....like has been already said.. It's now easier to get a picture of it......
  5. I think we all make mistakes...but how we then deal is what matters.. For example..if it affects others...do we apologise and make amends..>? By the same token, do we learn from our mistakes...so that they don't happen again.. Too often, we don't review when we say and do..and often go around blind as to what effect our actions have on others...
  6. DFS are always a good bet... However, you are left waiting for some time before they can deliver...8 weeks isn't uncommon.. Good sofas..at good prices...
  7. Thanks very much saxon51 and Betty1 Incidentally, my suspicions were correct....a person who complains about the police chasing people....is the very same one who once wrote the following (on this very same forum); "2 mini bikes thats all your moaning about theres armys of the little gits on mini bikes were i am near city road the police do nothing at all dont even bother chaseing them no more you wanna try living up here for a week mate that will be the least of your worries if you think for a minute phoneing the old bill on the hundreds of brainless cycling cappers will do any thing then your mad all the police do is slame down the phone" Hypocrisy as it's most transparent...me thinks... Just shows...some people can't be pleased...no matter what the police do... he even writes that he doesn't like how RCA taxis drive everywhere at high speed... I wonder if he's gone to their 'cab office' as opposed to 'pig office'..to complain about them too...or perhaps the thought of getting a bit of 2x4 or a wheel brace around the sweed....for his trouble..isn't worth risking...
  8. As a resident of Sheffield my whole life and having lived on several estates, including Arbourthorne....it always makes me smile at the attitude of a minority of people...(like this thread starter)... When a stolen car races around the streets, us residents are in uproar at it..complaining the police don't do anything about them.. and then when the police do chase the criminals...certain residents complain that the police are driving too fast!!! If it wasn't so serious and stupid a complaint. ..it would be hilarious ! So what's the alternative.? Let the criminals drive about at mega speeds, but the police should tootle after them at 30mph..in the hope that they might catch up? Instead of going and complaining to the police chiefs about their men and women, perhaps you should be congratulating them on taking the initiative and dealing with the criminals that ruin our fine city. I save hard to afford my 10 year old car, so that I dont have to catch a bus at 5am every morning....and if some toe-rag had pinched it...I'd hope the police did their very best to catch them........and if I found the police had been hindered by some muppet who had been standing in the road complaining about them...i'd be less than pleased....I tell you! These boys and girls in blue (as my dear Mom would say)...do a fine job keeping us safe..and they no doubt have families of their own that they want to return to at the end of a shift... Their jobs are dangerous and their shifts unpredictable and unsociable....I've worked at the same factory for many years....but wouldn't give it up to become a copper in today's society....so least we can do for these heroes is to support them...... I have read this forum for months, but never posted before...but this subject has incensed me enough to do so..... One thing I have found pleasing from reading it through from start to finish..is to know that I'm not alone in praising and supporting the police..and it's nice and refreshing to know that there are other grateful residents out there too... "Support your Sheriff's office" I say.....
