  1. I have one male kitten white with black splodges, 9 weeks old and a black male 8 months old that I looking to rehouse. The kitten is from my own cats litter but the black male is one that we kind of took in as a stray and who has kind of taken up residence, but it would be lovely to find him a new home. PM me if you're interested

  5. I have one on my right wrist which I know I had before I was 10. I can remember the doctor suggesting we hit it with a heavy book. Don't know if this was ever done tho as I'm 40 blah now and the thing is still there! Its never really caused me any problems though so I just leave it alone. I also have a couple more in my left arm but they are really tiny but one of them can hurt sometimes when I press it ... cure being ... don't press it!
  6. What about looking at your family history? Not always possible for everyone I know, I supposse it depends on what you know about your family to get you started but I, as well as looking at names and dates and places of birth etc, tried to take it one step further by what I call 'putting the meat on the bones' I found out about peoples places of birth, their jobs, their lifestyles etc. I looked at special events that would have happened when they were alive etc. So far I have found it really interesting, gets the old grey matter working for sure. And if I can help out with anything just hola!
  7. As an Usborne Organiser I'd be interested in knowing the title of the book if you can remember it?
  8. Thank you everyone for your recipes .... guess who'll be busy this weekend!
  9. Just come past on the bus and the road is cordoned off with police tape - any clues as to why anyone?
  10. Many moons ago I can remember as a child making ginger beer the old fashioned way when you had to feed a mixture of ginger, yeast and sugar etc was it a teaspoon of sugar or something a day. Then you used to split the mixture, use half to make the ginger beer and the other half to start all over again .... or something similar ... Please can anyone help me out with the recipe for Old Fashioned Ginger Beer?
  11. I once had to go to a second interview and it was because the guy who gave me the initial interview didnt have the authority to set me on he was actually weeding out the good from the bad and then setting up the second interview for his boss to choose. Which made me laugh because technically wasnt he making a decision as to who to hire?
  12. Mine is still visible but am sure it was made much worse by the game that which was going around at the time which was to punch people who had had the jab on the arm. More punches you made more points you scored!
  13. At the end of the day its just two friends making contact again after not speaking for so long ... what have you got to loose, nothing, as if you dont make contact things will still be the same. What's the saying 'Nothing ventured nothing gained'.
  14. Ask to spend the money on something else. Say you had to go out and buy elsewhere as they didnt have the size you wanted. If you're already shopping at Asda cant see them minding!
  15. Just seen the thread and wondered if there was a bug going round. I have big kids and little kids here dropping like flies. My 16 yr old has been really ill with it, with a temperature and really bad headaches.
  16. I like how a certain family restaurant in Sheffield has cctv cameras in the play area with lots of screens dotted around in the restaurant so that parents can keep an eye on their children whilst they play.
  17. although i havent taken my dogs to ingoldmells i have been loads of times and have noticed what a dog friendly place it is. There's water bowls outside shops and pubs etc and there's not many places that would let you take your pets in to shop with you ie the market.
  18. My family in the 1800's used to live in the Neepsend area. They were there at the time of the Sheffield Flood and although there is no documented evidence that any of them died as a result of it there was talk of it. They also put in claims for loss of items at the time too.
  19. I used to collect postcards when I was younger, from all the places I had visited and from the many penfriends I had around the world. My mother used to collect frogs and had over 100 but the collection got too big so now she collects thimbles.
  20. Looks like it will be a great day all round - great stalls and great weather to boot!
  21. I was talking to someone only yesterday about this at a book fayre I was at and she was a grandparent who used to be a registered childminder. Her daughter now has children and she was going to re register so that she could look after them but she was told that she cant. I asked even if its a different surname and she still said no as you have to declare any connection between the childminder and the person wanting their children looked after.
  22. I think Activity Sheffield's programme this month is called Go For It If you can PM me your address I am in work tomorrow and I know they dropped off some info to us. The booklets were just for the North Sheffield area tho I think but it looks like your area should be covered.
  23. my grans old fashioned remedy for wind she said when my dad was little was a lump of coal dropped in hot water and then the coal was taken out, the water allowed to cool and then it was given to the baby. Dont know what exactly it did tho!!!!
  24. There used to be a stall opposite the card shop in the castle market that did hats and stuff for fancy dress.
  25. I'm kind of half and half with everyone on this thread. I agree with everyones comments regarding the children looking like mini adults and that the majority made comments regarding doing it for their parents. And what really did surprise me was that for their ages they knew a lot of technical dance terms. However I had a daughter who used to dance and although she only attended dance class twice a week we would often find her practising in front of the mirror at home. I think of the couple who said they practiced 6 nights a week a little more depth was needed as to where and when etc they practiced. Just because ballroom is partnership dancing doesn't mean that all the practising had to be together.
