It may not be Glasto but it's going to be fun (with or without sun)! free community festival event @ Ruskin Park, Burgoyne Street, Walkley 12-7pm live music on stage feat. in the name of, minnie moosika, johnny and the prison didnt help boys, acoustic, blues, bellydancing and more! Beer Tent feat. special brew and local ales! International food stalls! Traditional tea and cake! Bouncy castles, children's activities, giant games, The Blake St Dash (4pm), HYPE breakdance workshop (2-4pm), art workshops, craft stall, communitys stalls, Fire Engine, facepainting, henna and more. Be part of a fun, vibrant community festival event... there'll be live music on stage, creative workshops, breakdance workshop, giant games, bouncy castles, community stalls,food stalls and beer tent...lots of activities for all ages! Sunshine too, we hope! Can you spare a few hours to help out? 11-2:30pm or 2:30-7pm? £10 expenses be paid and briefing meeting to tell you all you need to do the job. Imagine a six-foot patchwork balloon floating in a sky of giant insects, a magic tree at the end of a bright plastic trail… Art in the Park presents their Annual Exhibition @ Upperthorpe Healthy Living Centre. This year’s ‘Outside In’ exhibition brings together artwork created throughout the year by the Art in the Park project in Upperthorpe, Netherthorpe and Langsett. This is your chance to come and see the diverse results that a combination of artists, local residents, volunteers and a healthy dose of outdoor green space can produce. Have your say about the way green spaces affect you and consider the benefits of a project that stimulates artistic engagement in an outdoor environment, whatever the weather! Be the first to see the exhibition and meet the Art in the Park team! Join us for the official opening event on Saturday 5th May, 11 am. Opening by special mystery guest and refreshments provided. Exhibition entry is free and is suitable for all ages. Open daily, Mon- Fri 7am-9pm, Sat 9am-6pm & Sun 9am-3pm. How to find the exhibition: The exhibition will be throughout Upperthorpe Healthy Living Centre in Upperthorpe, Sheffield S6 3NA. Trams go frequently to Infirmary Road from the City Centre on the Meadowhall-Middlewood line. From there, take Albert Terrace Road and then Shipton Street into Upperthorpe. The Number 31 Bus from Angel Street in the City Centre will drop you outside the Post Office only a minute’s walk away.
  5. Art in the Park presents.. Urban May Day! Dance event @ Upperthorpe Peace Gardens (behind Upperthorpe Healthy Living Centre) Saturday 12th May, 1-4pm Be part of an urban dance explosion! Whether you’re a dance star or think you have two left feet…spring into action and give hiphop dance a try! HYPE Dance Company professional Allie Wood will teach us street dance moves, leading to a group performance at the end of the event. Wear trainers and loose clothing! There’ll also be an urban visual art activity, offering you another way to express your creativity, along with the usual chalking, painting and circus skills on offer. Come and celebrate the spring season in style! Everyone welcome! This event is free and for all ages to participate in. Free refreshments provided. Hope to see you there!   6. Sharrow Lantern Carnival is here again! Come join in the enchanted garden themed celebration on Sunday 1st April. Bring your lanterns, come in fancy dress, join the carnival parade! Collect your lanterns from Highfield Trinity Church at 6pm if you made one or assemble at 7pm @ Mount Pleasant Park. The parade will then weave it's way through the streets of Sharrow, accompanied by a whole range of live performance and spectacles, to end up at the General Cemetery for the finale party! Fire spinning, live music, dance performances to entertain until 10:30pm. Come one and all and celebrate Spring! Spread the word...   8. Yes, the event is at a very small greenspace called Blake Street Nature Park. It's a small community greenspace and you might not have come across it before. It is on Blake Street, Boyce Street and off Daniel Hill Street. If you know where Ruskin park is in Walkley, it is very close to that park. Hope you find it and come along!
  9. Do you have experience of working with musicians/bands? Would you like to be involved in co-ordinating a diverse range of live music for Ruskin Park Fun Day? It is a community festival that takes place at Ruskin Park, Walkley on Sat 3=23rd June, 12-7pm and attracts around 1000 people. There are live bands, musicians and djs throughout the day and we are looking for a reliable, enthusiastic person to be involved in the organising process and on the day to manage the line-up and stage. Interested? This is primarily a voluntary position but expenses and a small fee will be offered. It will be a valuable, fun experience!   10. Art in the Park presents... Insects and Creepy Crawlies! 2 part free community arts event: Part One: Sunday 11th February, 1-4pm Part Two: Sunday 15th April, 1-4pm Discover the insects that live beneath your feet at this two part event-come to one or both, it's up to you! Working with artist facilitator, Moira Benoit, we'll be constructing giant insect and creepy crawly sculptures and costumes using willow, natural and recycled materials. There'll also be the chance to explore the local bug life and learn more about the creatures you find, with insect expert Peter Clegg. In Part Two, we'll be continuing to make the sculptures ready for a parade finale! At Part Two, there will also be the chance to build 'fantasy homes' for insects with the Change Project, who aim to engage young people in the built environment. Plus, as usual, you can have a go at other activities including painting, chalking and circus skills. Come along and get creative! Everyone welcome! This event is free and for all ages.   11. We are thrilled to announce that Sharrow Lantern Carnival IS going ahead again this year and will take place in April (date tbc soon). This year will be the 4th time the carnival has taken place and with your help and participation it can be as brilliant an event in the Sheffield calendar as ever! Again this year, there shall be the stunning spectacle of lanterns in all shapes and sizes shining in the streets of Sharrow, snaking towards the stupendous and special finale at The General Cemetery! Look out for lots more details on timing and workshop dates very soon. If you would like to be involved in organising the carnival, the committee is still looking for new people to join and if you can offer your help in any way (publicity, website maintenance, promotion, workshops, transport-anything!) then get in touch- we'd love to hear from you!   12. great, thanks! we just had our first circus in the park event and went really well and was really popular with those that came. Got lots of people along (lots of children and their families) and they all had a go at learning new skills and picked up everything impressively! going to be making poi next week too so to have you and anyone else along be fantastic. If when you turn up you ask for Roanna or Dave (i not there til 17th and 23rd now), they are the main people co-ordinating the event next week. Be great to have you joining in the fun (hopefully this good turn of weather last til then)... Yes, we do have events at weekends. In fact our events usually take place each month on Sunday afternoons, but as it the school holidays we decided to do midweek this month. We don't always have such a circus skills theme as are for August but always have some diabolo and poi equipment with us for people to try alongside other creative activities!
  13. Art in the Park (a local community art project) are proud to present... 'Circus in the Park' Ever wanted to join the circus? Now's your chance! Come and join us as we set up a gazebo in Langsett Green Space and learn to juggle, diabolo, spin poi, unicycle, use devil sticks, face paint and create circus-inspired costumes. There'll also be the chance to perform your skills at Langsett Fun Day! Everyone is welcome- Art in the Park events are for all ages! No need to book- just turn up and follow the chalk arrows to find us! This is a free event and free refreshments provided.   14. That sounds great! I never knew of 'poi in the park' before but have seen big groups of people in endcliffe park before so guessing that was you! Will definitely be checking out your bday gathering as live just round corner...Thought you might be interested to know about 'art in the park' if you don't already. See our website for more info. We've got similiar ethos to you and this month might especially be of interest to you and people you know as we're doing 'circus in the park'...setting up gazebo in langsett Green Space (grammar street-can get tram to langsett stop and walk) and doing circus skills- poi, diabolo, juggling, unicycling, devil sticks, costume making etc- free refreshments and lots of nice people! We'll be teaching people who turn up how to begin and improve but be great to have some pros and practised poi spinners to come along and show off (i mean 'demonstrate'!) their skills. Thursdays 3rd August, 10th and 17th, 1-4pm Weds 23rd Aug, 11-3pm at Langsett Fun Day Spread the word if you think anyone be interested!
