  1. Maybe you're right...i guess he felt abit of a goof when the police man told me what was said...i then showed him i had 3 times more than what he was asking for and (whilst biting my tongue) politely paid the driver- as i intended to. the officer then let me go first...which must have irritated the driver.
  2. ah!! although, in this case, that wasn't the situation! the money was there and being offered! i think it was just a man, with a taxi, and a chip on his shoulder!
  3. to be honest, i think in the future I'm gonna avoid the shandy and just drive! it has been quite off putting this experience! Its the first bad one I have had, and am going to make it my last!
  4. but i wasn't! lol its a shame because I'd had a really great evening until then! and it took one stranger to ruin it! I mean I am a bit of a worrier, but I've never had any dealings with the police so wasn't sure how it would be dealt with and if i'd have a mark against my name!
  5. hmmm to be honest, my reason for bringing it here was firstly to sound off lol and secondly to find out what affect it would have on my future as I have to have annual advanced disclosures and didn't want this to show! however, with the sounds of it the police realised that the uy was wrong and not me lol!
  6. to be honest, i didn't get it! However, he was driving a very unique looking cab! I dunno! I think I'm just annoyed at having to go through that when I hadn't broke any laws!
  7. eh? well i'd hope he'd have the sense to drive the correct way! lol as I was saying earlier in the thread, I do not dispute paying, or the amount we came to an agreement on...it was that i had asked for a particular route very clearly, he chose to ignore that, and when i questioned this, referring to our agreement again, he over reacted!
  8. the quickest way is up the new ring road....he took me half way round town then headed for Burngreave/Pittsmoor
  9. Leadmill to Shirecliffe....normally its about£7...I said I was happy under £9
  10. I did say that, showing the officer I had the means and the intention to pay, explaining very clearly that I was only disputing the route the driver had taken and that I felt he had over reacted unneccessarily! It was just the officers "advice without caution" that baffled me.
  11. i was thinking the same Dongle....the worrying thing is the way he just lost it!!! crazy eh?
  12. thanks Ladystar! well the officer let me go first, and even commented on how calm, appropriate and polite I was being! After he got me another taxi he was still talking to the driver! I think i may just drive from now on!
  13. thanks! I figured that, as the driver told the officer I had no money, as I corrected I never said that and showed the officer the £30 in my purse....although the police have advised me to make a complaint with the council about the driver. I think I am more angry than anything, that I have been made to feel a criminal, for askin to go the quickest, safest and cheapest route home and at no point refusing to pay!! clearly a very dodgy taxi driver!
  14. i was a little tipsy at the time....and he was more concerned in seeing me home in another taxi and having a go at the taxi driver!
  15. Last night, was interesting to say the least! When I got into a black cab to head home after my night out, the taxi driver decided t take me the long way home. As i told him I wanted to go the quick way, and expressed a very reasonable amount of what the fare should be (as I had more than enough money on me) the taxi driver lost his temper and said that he would take me to the polie to sort this out. After being locked in the back of the taxi for 10mins outside westbar police station, an officer came out and listened to what had happened, and i think he was as confused as I was. The officer then said his action to me was "advice without caution". Anybody know what this means?
  16. well I called them and got the dumb-ass trainee who said 2 weeks!!! now i know its not that long cuz of people havin there hair done for their holidays! i just wondered how long people leave theirs between salon and gym!
  17. Hi, Does anyone know how long you're meant to leave your hair after bleach highlights before you go swimming? I had mine done on friday morning and wondered if i was ok to go tonight?
  18. Yeah Bobgirlsnake! he's awake and off the machines but not sure how serious injuries are yet!
  19. although crime was reduced it is unfair to snigger at the situation. A loss of life is not a funny thing.
  20. don't tarnish everyone with the same brush! I am a mature young person that has to put up with the idiots driving round too. You can't just generalise people like that! Longley Avenue West is a problem and as a young person and driver who has to live there I would be happy to see a 20mph limit enforced
  21. i don't think i'm blaming the staff....been there done it myself! However I do think the guy in the original post is a bit of a dimwit! I do think tho some companies have crazy policies where staff can't make decision in a situation like this, letting it escalate stupidly to area management. Or making them appear really tight so they won't let staff refund or exchange a loaf of bread for an error that was made somewhere!
  22. i think also Strix it partly has somethin to do with the company. I worked for M&S and something like that would not have been quibbled at. No management would have been contacted, as any floor staff would have seen the problem. I think if managers wanna be idiots they will be, trying to save money where they can to get the store's takings up! The issue we had at M&S was when an old lady brought back a half eaten turkey after deciding she would have preferred chicken lol!
  23. I think issues like these are slightly moulded by the media. I mean I'm not denying what some young people do, and agree with the post that all young people shouldn't be tarnished with the same brush, as a young person who likes to visit Greece. I think things like these have several factors involved. Some people go there to get hammered all week for next to nowt. Places like Malia have so many bars that are all wanting the same business they offer free drinks like they're going out of fashion. Also, i think its right to agree with the points about different cultures. The "British" culture encourages going out and stuff. I mean i don't condone the binge drinkin culture but we have to accept its a reality we have to face that some people enjoy engaging in this. So maybe alot of other cultures stay clear due to fear of family at home finding out etc. Also, you can't take just the British media as a reliable source. Of course they're reporting an issue that exists, but look at the audience it's written for. It only mentions the Brits because it's the Brits that are reading it. It wouldn't be such a hard hitting news article if it was written about another nationality then sold in Britain, it'd soon be tomorrow's chip paper! I think also the cost of these holidays adds to the problem. I'm trying o book something to Greece, a bit of culture with plenty of things to do, but not too loud etc. (i.e. a nice family resort) and i'm looking at paying nearly double than booking to go to Malia, Falaraki or Ayia Napa. These young people may be going on their first holiday, and with the economy as it stands are gonna be swayed to the cheap holidays with chep food and drinks as opposed to something more pricey, thus putting alot of people in a small area all with the same agenda to get dunk all week making the problem escalate!
