  1. The best way to lose weight is to exercise. I can practically starve myself and not lose weight but 30 minutes minimum exercise a day does the trick. Walking is ok but doesn't bring brilliant results unless you walk a long distance. Cycling/exercise bike is better but those cross-trainer things are the best.
  2. I don't agree with the idea that they'd lose business if they were outside the Cathedral. It's right next to one of the main city centre tram stops and the busiest shopping area of town is 20 yards away. If people want to shop at the stalls one road isn't going to stop them.
  3. The college building is very nice - much nicer than old Parson Cross College I went to. However my experience with Hillsborough wasn't particularly good as they cancelled my course 10 weeks in which was annoying - no reason was given for doing it either.
  4. I used to work for Cap Gemini on Aldwarke Lane. Walking half a mile every day down that road that runs alongside an open sewer didn't improve my opinion of Rotherham. The centre was nice though.
  5. Those two video suicide notes by two of the bombers also give you a fairly good idea of who did it.
  6. Does anyone still take anything David Shayler says seriously? Apart from C4 and other media organisation with their own axes to grind?
  7. Worst job I ever had was working for a windows manufacturer entering their orders onto a computer system that worked out what lengths of frame to cut. Most people there were really good people but the management were cretins, the pay was poor, the office I worked in was hot in the winter and Saudi Arabia in the summer, the workload was heavy, repetitive and dull and my back is still knackered from the problems I got having to sit at that computer constantly for 9 hours a day to get the work done.
  8. Can't say I'm overwhelmed with anticipation about it. John McClane fights internet terrorists... I'd include Princess Bride, Manhunter, Amelie and Stand By Me as my nominations.
  9. I'd agree with every one of those except Jurassic Park. And I'd add Princess Bride to the list.
  10. You've got to love some of the threads that are started on here
  11. Well the website not only got publicised on TV but also in the Metro which reaches a few million bored commuters (including me). It took a little while to get into the site and it was slow when on there but it worked eventually.
  12. I'm looking to buy my first place myself Claire. Overwhelming isn't it? You might find some useful information about the process on this website http://www.moneysavingexpert.com which has a good guide to the different types of mortgages. You can also get an idea of who might be the best mortgage lender for you on one of these sites http://www.moneysupermarket.com or http://www.moneyextra.co.uk which both give independant online advice and comparisons of the best mortgage deals available. That's about the limit of what I can do to help as I'm only just getting started with this myself Good luck
  13. And how long ago did you move away? I've lived here nearly 30 years and never experienced or heard of any of those things (except the burnt out car bit - I remember seeing one on the Brook once when I was a kid). Never had our car nicked, never been burgled, never had a brick through anything and definately never heard of anyone having their house set on fire by anyone other than people living in the house (by accident). Parson Cross is a big area so maybe you lived in a dodgier part of it. For me it was a great place to grow up and is still a nice place to live.
  14. Black Book was pretty good as long as you don't mind subtitles.
  15. HIGNFY is well past its prime. It used to be worth watching just for Paul Merton but even he doesn't seem to be all that bothered any more. My personal favourites at the moment would be QI, Mock The Week, The Late Edition and then 8 Out Of 10 Cats. Room 101 isn't bad although it depends on who the guest is - the one with Marcus Brigstocke getting vitreolic about David Blaine (Gitwizard) was excellent.
  16. His opinion about many subjects are over the top but he is very funny. I have absolutely no interest in cars at all but I'll still watch Top Gear just for the humour.
  17. Those free bandwidth upgrades were with Telewest Blueyonder. Who knows if they'll do it now they've been taken over. Who needs a 50mb connection anyway? I do more than my fair share of downloading and I reduced my bandwidth from 10mg to 2mg. The reduction in download time at 10mg didn't seem worth the cost. Unless you're planning on watching full screen streamed TV or something like that who needs it?
  18. Reading this thread has totally depressed me. I can only just afford to get on the housing ladder as it is. Oh well, I'm going to put in my offers and if they don't like them so be it.
  19. I had this problem and it was the motherboard that was the cause.
  20. Last Exile and Samurai 7 are both excellent series.
  21. Strange, we've just been told that they are removing a bus service that is regularly quite full as its the only bus service that goes through Hillsborough. But it's ok! It's being replaced by another bus which adds another 20 minutes to the journey because of its ridiculous route and is less frequent.
  22. I've got tons on my MP3 player but at the moment I've set up a favourites list and these are a few of the things on it. Hurt - Johnny Cash (NIN cover) Lover, Lover - James Iha Porcelina Of The Vast Oceans - Live version from Smashing Pumpkins 2nd to last gig. Shadowboxer - Fiona Apple Try To Try - early Smashing Pumpkins live song Smile Like You Mean It - The Killers Until We Fall - Audioslave Dandelion - Audioslave Clones (we're all) Alice Cooper Don't Let Me Down - Zwan live song (beatles cover) Girl With The Cruel Face - Zwan live song El-A-Noy - Zwan live song Everlong - Foo Fighters Frail & Bedazzled - Smashing Pumpkins Jesus Christ Pose - Soundgarden
  23. I've had this problem before. In my case it was the motherboard that was causing it. Some kind of inherent fault in that particular model of Dell PC. There was no way to fix it other than replace the motherboard.
