  1. Update: I watched the 3rd episode on the first disc on my PC, not ideal but it worked. I watched the first episode on the second disc on my player OK but the next night the DVD got 12 seconds in while loading and froze. Same with the third and fourth discs; they all 3 work on my PC so it looks like evenings on my PC for the next few nights. I bought this in June so it's too late to return.
  2. They did a fine job when they were last in power (joke). Followed all Labour's manifesto commitments but managed to spend all the reserves in the process.
  3. Do not be seduced into thinking that something you've had for years is of any value to anyone else. I have reluctantly given away many things on Freegle and on here which I considered valuable but on searching for similar items found the only worth was my memories. I have a garage which doesn't help with decluttering as I use it as a way station en route to Freegle or the tip.
  4. Thanks for your suggestions. I bit the bullet and watched the episode on my PC.
  5. It starts to spin but then stops and tries again. The display shows Load and a little right arrow. No problem with rest of box set or other DVDs.
  6. In those circumstances I'm sure most of us would check with the paramedics that they weren't holding anyone up before they undertook life saving procedures that could take longer than a few minutes. Then again, most of us are considerate.
  7. This is an annoying issue. I have a box set and the first 2 episodes on the first disc played fine. A few days later I switched the DVD player on with the same disc and nothing came up, pressing buttons failed to get any response. Opening & closing the door and removing and replacing the disc had no effect. The same disc loaded fine onto both my PC & laptop. Another disc from the set loaded OK onto the player. Other DVDs have loaded fine onto the player. A first world issue I'll grant you dear reader, but annoying nevertheless.
  8. Mine was a joke, just say the phrase out loud.
  9. A warning to anyone who has an older boiler: Installation of smart meter leaves elderly woman facing £4,000 bill The same thing nearly happened to us when the smart meter was installed. The installer had to switch the boiler off in order to install the meter and restart it afterwards. It wouldn't start, he didn't know how to restart it and was going to leave it and put a note on the installation notes. We insisted that he stayed and after about an hour calling all his fellow installers he eventually found one who talked him through the process. The meter wasn't reporting the gas usage so after a couple of months they sent another installer with a replacement meter. As he was going to switch the boiler off I explained what happened last time so he once again rang around but he couldn't find anyone who could help. He left without switching the boiler off and the meter still doesn't record gas usage.
  10. Yes, current affairs programmes are always improved by having 2 anchors.
  11. A huge range of "opportunities" suggested but so many could have been excluded if there'd been a question on age. e.g. Sports professional or scientist which would have meant I'd have had to have started a lot earlier than in my 60's. Plus, football referee, ffs, when I know nothing about football. Perhaps that's the qualification necessary.
  12. Is it making any beeping sounds when you press the start button and, if so, how many beeps?
  13. Thanks, but I can't find anything to show this to be the case, where did you find out? PS Just checked back on First's website and they've updated it. The bus driver must have told them.
  14. Not so much a change to the timetable but to concessionary fares. According to First's website travel time restrictions have been removed to allow all Senior Pass (ENCTS) holders to travel as and when they require, in line with the latest Government advice. This morning the machine refused my pass at 9.05 am so be aware that the ticket machines are not in line with their policy so you may need to persuade the driver. Free Concessionary Pass
  15. Living in Stannington using public transport to the NGH is problematic given the number of missing buses on the 81 route. I decided to use the H1 and pick it up behind Morrisons' car park, where I left the car. I was there in plenty of time, time enough in fact to have another bus pull up at the stop and the H1 to sail past as the driver could not see me frantically waving. Needless to say, that is not something I'm willing to try again.
  16. Just spotted that all sites will be open 9am - 6pm 7 days a week: Sheffield household recycling
  17. From your original post: From that, the death of a police officer doesn't matter to you as you are doing nothing.
  18. Have you tried cleaning the print heads? Open HP Solution Center: ... Click Settings ( ), and then click Printer Toolbox. ... Click the Device Services tab, and then click Clean Printheads. Click Clean to begin
  19. There is absolutely nothing stopping you taking to the streets. Presumably the death of a police officer doesn't matter to you.
  20. I don't understand the reasoning here. It could be argued that people are far more road aware having learnt in an automatic due to not having to have part of their brain engaged with gear changing. I passed my UK driving test with the Post Office and the colleague I shared the instruction with ( 2 x 43 hour weeks, one car, one instructor, two learners) would look down at the gear lever whenever he changed gear. He got into this habit and even a year after passing was still doing it. I've been driving an automatic and a manual for several years now and don't have a favourite but find that turning out of, and accelerating away from, junctions is a lot easier in the auto.
  21. Another important aspect which is often overlooked is leaving all the addressing information in the body of a reply. Plus, unless strictly necessary, I generally delete the content of the original email. A simple, unburdened email will get your message across in a far more readable form. Don't start me on people who send emails to a long list of recipients without using BCC. If I wanted all those people to know my contact details I would let them know. /rant
  22. Can you lift the lid off the cistern? If so, it may simply be a matter of a jammed ball **** which can be easily released.
  23. I've recently discovered Marmite Peanut Butter, the crunchy one.
  24. They've not been shut at all so I wonder what you mean by "yet".
  25. Does the scanner work when used directly from the copier rather than via the computer? Have you tried using an alternative device such as a smartphone or tablet for scanning?
