  1. If you have a look at this link it may answer some of your questions: http://www.sheffield1.com/newretail.html
  2. Do you have any proof that someone has said that? If you'd been following the threads you'd realise that t020 doesn't go in for proof.
  3. There is not going to be a congestion charge in Sheffield. This debate is about congestion charges in general.
  4. Careful what you say about claiming benefits and earning money. There are some on this forum would accuse you of only living in this country to take advantage of our benefit system. Otherwise, good luck mate and I hope it all works out OK.
  5. You think 13 months is too long for a party to be in power? What do you suggest a week at a time?
  6. I think you've once again misunderstood the difference between an argument and an opinion. Mike is talking from a position of knowledge, his partner works in the arena of drug misuse, as I understand it. Mo, Mikey, KittyKat, and yourself are merely presenting opinions, generally gleaned from the pages of the tabloid press. If any of you could come up with any reasoned arguments based on studies or government figures then we might have more respect for your positions. IMHO
  7. AFAIK = As Far As I'm Concerned (and I realise that it's a K and not a C) K=Know
  8. Is he referring to "Centertainment"? I would hardly call Brannigans, Club Wow and New Orleans a "cultural centre" Nevertheless, nice to see someone remembers that Sheffield exists To a nation addicted to Big Brother, Brannigans, Club Wow, etc. are the height of culture.
  9. Read cosywolf's answer. PS IMHO ASAIK should be AFAIK.
  10. Was that because either a) Prison staff cannot stand the sound of baseballs being thrown against the wall for any longer than 30 days or b) Prison staff cannot stand it when all the prisoners whistle Colonel Bogey when the confinee is released?
  11. Um, who are Trevor and Simon?
  12. I fondly recall the submarines you used to get free in cereal boxes. They were about an inch long (2.54 cm) and had a hollow bottom which you filled with baking powder. They would initially sink then the powder would react with the water and form a bubble. The bubble was enough to cause the sub to return to the surface causing the bubble to burst which sank the sub ....
  13. Stephenson Hall is within staggering distance of one of the all time best drinking areas of Sheffield: Broomhill. It is also within 500 yards of Sheffield's premier fencing club. Nuff said, except welcome.
  14. This gives me a chance to voice one of my pet hates, and as you'll all agree I don't do that very often. Caravans!!!! Why are they always white? Why don't they make them in green or brown or some other autumnal colour? That way, when you see them on their sites they might, just might, blend in with their background. But no, they're white so they can be seen from miles away.
  15. Mikey, that's a problem with discussion forums, you are bound to upset someone. I try very hard, well a bit, not to upset too many people. It's not the people I find soul-less, it's the area. I was brought up in leafy suburbdom, lived in less salubrious areas and now live in Walkley, albeit in a detached house. My point being that I have lived in most types of area and still prefer where I am now. I also think that using 'best' & 'worst' to describe areas is a bit elitist. If you could pose the question: 'given your current financial situation in which area would you prefer to live' I'm sure that you would recieve a more balanced view. Or maybe I'm talking b*****ks, it has been known. PS Did you enjoy the fencing?
  16. Perhaps this is the real Hal and it was an imposter before. Come back Hal, we miss you.
  17. I can see where you're going Phanerothyme but while it may be interesting to most of us, and I must admit I agree with most of what you are saying, there are those to whom no amount of balanced argument will make the blind bit of difference. I can almost hear the shutters coming down when I read some of the posts on this thread. I read a report from a high ranking prison officer, he may even have been a governor, who was in favour of decriminalising drugs. One of the planks of his argument being that the cost of every person held in prison for 1 year could pay pay for 4 policemen or 4 teachers or 4 nurses. Senior police officers are advocating decriminalisation as are judges and even tory politicians, are they all wrong? PS Louise, wondered how long you could hold out, how's the kitchen?
  18. Bit more detail here: http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_787702.html?menu=
  19. Should they be left up or down? What's the big issue here? I often see people use this in arguments and even as a reason for breakdown of a relationship. Edited to add 3rd option as I realised I couldn't vote in my own poll!
  20. OK Moon Maiden, we've established that you don't smoke and that you're not fat. Next questions: Are you on medication of any sort? Do you have a panic room?
  21. I know this may be personal MoanMaiden, but are you a fat smoker by any chance?
  22. Perhaps it was the sex and they only started talking to each other after they were married.
  23. Spot on steely one. I'm currently posing as an Oracle DBA for an international IT org. What do you do, in IT terms that is?
  24. I think you need a few more candidates such as Dore, Fulwood, Ecclesall, Totley. These areas always strike me as soul-less with a large proportion of their population consisting of people who look down on other areas of the city. There is a good case for transferring these areas out of Sheffield. IMHO, that is.
