  1. Sharrow Lantern Carnival gets funky with this years’ theme of Monster Mash! Will your monster be dancing, DJ'in or out for a good party? What will be your creation for this years’ Sharrow Lantern Carnival? Facebook event page:https://www.facebook.com/events/938617472983895/ Event website: https://www.creativeaction.net/sharrow-lantern-carnival The carnival takes place on Sunday 1st April and has become a well-established feature for the Sharrow community. This is its 15th year and we are expecting a lot of involvement from families, volunteers and artists. The build up to the carnival involves a lot of behind the scenes activity. There are free workshops every weekend running from February onwards at The Old Junior School. You can also get involved with The Timebuilders team at St Mary’s church. Luisa Golob, from Creative Action Network says, “It’s great fun thinking about the theme as we try and imagine what the final event would look like. We are excited to dance down the street with "Monster Mash" setting the scene for our dancing monsters of all manner of shapes and sizes.” Starting from 7.30pm at Mount Pleasant Park on the Sunday 1st April, parading through Sharrow, the lantern procession ends with a celebration in Sheffield General Cemetery with music, food and entertainment. 14. Let the lead up to the Lantern Carnival commence. Tomorrow night (Friday 7th) is the first fundraiser for this fantastic local event. Hosted by the ever-affable Bell Jar on London Road, there will be bands, dj's, plenty booze and friendly folks. Donations on the door to keep our workshops in willow. And don't forget the workshops to make your space-themed lanterns start the next day.
  15. This year the Sharrow Lantern Festival turns 10, and the theme is SPACE. If these are not two GREAT reasons to come along to workshops and make your own space themed lanterns then I don't know what is! Oh except maybe that they are free and all materials are provided! The festival will be on 13th April, or 27th if it rains, but workshops start from 9th February. These all take place at the Old Junior School on South View Road from 1-5pm every Saturday. There will also be Sunday sessions from 10am - 4pm from 16th March. Everyone is welcome. If you would like to help out at the workshops then we will have volunteer training sessions on 25th January and 1st February. Please let us know if you would like to come along to one of the volunteer sessions at [email protected]
