  1. Fair enough, it's just that some of your earlier posts made me think otherwise, but thanks for clearing that up. If you look earlier in the thread you'll see where I mention how I handle mobile phone using drivers and realise that it's not all of us that do as the OP said. In fact I'd still stand by my earlier comments that the majority of police drivers go by the book and are great drivers. The people who let us down are very much in a tiny minority.
  2. You can believe what you like, however I am talking from experience. I would have thought that one would have something of an interest in cars and driving to become a traffic cop. I don't know, I'm not a traffic cop. I'm a response officer. Yes, I enjoy foot chases (especially the ones where I catch the person I'm chasing) but blue light runs and car chases are not enjoyable, they are just part of the job. You appear to be one of these people that mistakenly think the cops is all about blue lights, fast driving and arresting people. The people who share this view and join the job normally end up quitting in the first year or two because it's not what they expected. Response or pursuit driving is not a fun event, it's a necessity. And please don't confuse someone going fast for kicks with someone doing either of those two sorts of driving, it's totally different. I have no interest in Evos, Imprezzas or driving fast. I drive an emergency vehicle because it's part of my job and it helps me do what I enjoy, I don't however enjoy the blue light runs or vehicle chases.
  3. That's a very cheap shot when a member is saying rest in peace to a recent victim of an incident. You appear to be quite against emergency driving, let us hope you are never at the other end of the phone requiring any sort of help. It would be terrible if these trained people had to come to you and drive in a way that you don't appear to condone.
  4. Same here. Last time I went there it was excellent. Got all 4 of mine done with decent Michellins for less than any other place could do, even if the other places did some unknown brand instead of Michellins.
  5. ARGH! I hate that place My other half used to go there from time to time for her projects and it was always a boring time guaranteed for me.
  6. I think that's the same with many second hand stores though, they'll always look to offer you less so they can make profit when selling it second hand. If you can sell stuff privately yourself you'll get a better price every time.
  7. That's fair enough, you seem aware of it, I just wanted to make sure as not everyone is Not sure where to recommend in Sheffield. I know a couple of car audio places that would do a great job of it without a doubt, but I know that would come with a heavy price tag and probably a waiting list of a week or two to get the car in.
  8. Unfortunately that's part of the problem, many people don't care. I've sat with people I've sectioned under the mental health act in the past while waiting for hospital staff to get someone to us to assess them and during this time I've chatted to them. Some are more chatty than others and I think judging by some of the posts here that some of you would have a surprise listening to them.
  9. He may be dangerous, it's not a case of him clearly being dangerous. I've dealt with people exhibiting similar behaviour in a public place before, making all sorts of threats and looking quite scary but when it's come down to it they've just needed help and not intended on harming anyone. I'm not saying all people are like this, but instantly assuming people are 'clearly dangerous' is just as dangerous as underestimating them. Everyone's different. Like I said, the best thing to do in this situation would be to call the police. Where on earth did I say I wanted to give him a hug? I think you need to have another read of the thread and realise I've not stated that I'd do that. Please don't confuse not wishing to instantly label someone as wanting to give them a hug.
  10. There's a self storage place near the old firestation museum that have a shop at the front. They sell packaging material and may be able to supply what you are after.
  11. Seems a rather wild assumption to make, what are you basing that on? I admit that this persons actions do seem a little unpredictable but I don't think there was anything to suggest they wanted to steal a car. We don't know what this person was trying to do, but I think it's obvious that driving as the OP initially described in his / her first post wasn't the best course of action when this person was in a position that could be considered as very vulnerable.
  12. Not sure if they're all listed on here, but this should help
  13. Not at all. Police drivers are trained to high standards and can normally handle those situations, however I'd be naive to think that everyone behaved and performed perfectly each time. Like I said, there are a very small minority that let the rest of us down from time to time, I'm not going to lie and say everyone is perfect as we see occasionally in the press where the odd driver is caught doing something they shouldn't be. Luckily the majority of us are responsible and drive safely as per our training
  14. Have you tried a bit of a google trawl followed by some DIY fitting? Fitting BT carkits on most cars is actually quite straight forward and can take about an hour tops.
  15. Some people have issues which means sometimes they are not fully aware of what they are doing or are unable to realise the full consequences of their actions. You seem upset that I have a view that doesn't necessarily match that of your own. I can assure you that I am not posting my views on this for the sake of an argument, however I am taking part in a discussion forum. If people didn't post their views you'd be pretty lonely here ranting on your own about other people being in the road Who knows. If this person had mental health issues then I'm guessing someone who specialises in that sort of work could be of help. If they require this sort of help they could attend somewhere of their own accord or be sectioned. I'm not sure why you think I have an attitude like that, I think you've assumed a bit much there. What argument? I'm certainly not arguing with anyone, I'm quite happily engaging in an online discussion. Your original post suggests you may not be as innocent as you suggest. I wonder if the outcome would have been different if you had been spotted driving in that manner by a police officer? I guess we'll never know Are you able to say for sure that this person had intent to cause an accident? I've never met this person so I can't comment on that, but I noticed your smiley at the end of that, so it's obviously amused you. Good for you...
  16. I often think those programs are a bad image for the cops. You see quite a few mistakes made in them and day to day shifts are not like that. I'm sure that there are quite a few cops out there who obviously know the job and the law, that have watched the odd program and thought "oops" when they've seen stuff done by the officers on the TV.
  17. Yep, however the police drivers are trained to high standards and can normally handle those situations safely.
  18. Yes of course I enjoy my job, but give me a foot chase over a car chase any day, that's enjoyable and quite exciting. Car chases aren't fun as you seem to think, there's way to much to concentrate on and do to make it fun. I think I can honestly say that I've never had this after a blue light run or chase. I don't think I've ever seen it on any of my colleagues either.
  19. No, I don't think it needs correcting. I was allowing for the fact that unfortunately a very small number of officers will do stupid things when driving even though the majority of us follow the rules.
  20. The standard driving course is currently 3 weeks long
  21. This was a while back, before all this 'credit crunch' stuff. And the idea of a store that buys and sells second hand equipment is that it buys and sells second hand equipment. I agree that if they hand out money all the time they'd not do too well, but they did say themselves that normally they'd be happy to buy them from me.
  22. I vote Fellas too. Probably the best on Ecclesall road, even though their prices went up slightly a while back.
  23. Yeah, I've noticed that with CEX too. I've been in there looking at console games. I then went to look at the new prices in some of the other stores and in some cases found the new copy of the game for less than the second hand price in CEX!
  24. Believe it or not but bluelight runs aren't that exciting. Perhaps for the first few a new officer may think they are exciting but when you're making 15 grade ones in a shift you tend to get used to them quickly. As for the driver, they are anything but exciting. There's a hell of a lot of responsibility. You need to get where you are required, but you need to do it safely. If you hurt or kill someone else you'll be in for it.
  25. And if not then the driver is trained to take that in to consideration and act appropriately. One thing that is worrying is when you get behind a car with blues and twos going and they are completely unaware of your presence. Obviously you have to act accordingly and can't force your way past them or get too close but I often wonder what on earth these drivers are doing on the road if they are unaware that we're behind them.
