  1. I suppose if people dislike CEX they could just do what I do, avoid the place
  2. That's not normally annoying at all. What can be annoying is if they don't stop interrupting during the interview, sometimes this has to be addressed, but the majority of them behave And following on from what Moosey said, don't Irwin Mitchell just do personal injury stuff now?
  3. A bit closer to home and could be cheaper, Manchester. This year there's apparently going to be a 'New York style celebration' with plenty of fireworks and other attractions due to some deal done with the council and some external company. Sounds good to me. If you want to go a little further then try Scotland. New Year in Scotland is unlike New Year in Sheffield and I doubt you'd be dissapointed.
  4. You say you were 'pulled over by the police three times', but reading your original post it seems that you stopped on your own accord on one of the occasions. As others have said, there's currently a rather large drive in terms of scrap metal and other materials (such as cabling) that people are stealing. If you've been inconvenienced a couple of times then that's unfortunate, however if you think you are being unfairly or incorrectly treated then contact the police and let them know. I get stopped every now and then because of the daft hours I'm out and about in my car, most of the time I'm returning home from the job, so it just shows that anyone can be stopped. I tend not to worry about it, I know that the checks don't take long and I'll be on my way in no time and having seen the good that these checks can do I appreciate it and accept the not all stops will unveil a criminal.
  5. Interesting to see that's finally going ahead, it's been murmered about for years. Time to shaft motorcyclists one more time then with the car test staying the same.
  6. It's Lalaland I'm on here as an individual, all posts are my own private views and not that of any organisation and certainly not in a professional capacity. I don't work for SYP or anywhere in Yorkshire. I do however like the 2008 blade, shame I cannot own one
  7. The way you posted seemed as if you had some level of experience when it came to police pursuits when you said you never known of one being called off, that's why I asked. Nope. I did just re-read and I can see exactly what you wrote both on your post and in the quote of your post in my post above, here it is again below, As you can see, you used the word 'try' later in the sentence, just before 'to make him crash'. I've put it in bold to make it easier to spot. So your sentence states that they do 'get right up behind him as close as possible' which suggests they achieve this rather than just try to do so. To 'get right up behind him' as you suggested they do they'd surely need vehicles capable of this? I presume we are talking about the one owned by SYP. To be honest I've never sat in it, so I don't know if it's restricted or if it could actually reach those sort of speeds.
  8. How many times have you been involved in a police pursuit or sat in the comms room? I've never known that happen, there are other options including the force helicopter or plane (although the use of the plane for this sort of thing isn't as common). To be honest with you there aren't actually that many police cars that will do 180mph+ in the country.
  9. Pursuits can be called off, it's normally down to the inspector sat in the comms room to decide what happens in respect of that. There are many factors that decide if a pursuit continues or not which can vary in each situation, obviously these can't be posted on a public forum, but believe me it can and does happen.
  10. Can't speak for the one in that area but I've used Hi-Q in other parts of the country for on the road tyre repairs on work vehicles and they are excellent. They normally get there in under an hour and I was amazed how fast they popped off the wheel, removed the offending tyre, fitted a new one in the back of the van and fixed the wheel back to the car. I couldn't have changed the wheel for the spare in that amount of time
  11. Unless you want them incredibly complex have you considered doing them yourself? You can get printer paper from most craft shops and computer shops that has a transfer property to it. You just print your design on to it, iron it on top of your garment and then follow the instructions to fix it. If it's only a handful of TShirts you want to do and want to keep the price down it may be worth considering.
  12. Second vote the for Beerstop on Archer Road. Have a word with Dave behind the counter and he can get pretty much any alcoholic drink for you without too much trouble if it's not already amongst their large selection on the back shelf.
  13. Daft question time, but has he tried looking for a silkolene dealer? I'm sure somewhere like Manhattans or Performance Parts can get some in stock without too much delay if you ask them.
  14. Prices for motorbike lessons will change pretty much every year, so the prices we all paid over the years will no doubt be different to what you'll be charged now. The best thing you can do is call for a quote from them or even pop in for a free assessment lesson so they can work out where to start with you and give you a rough gestimate on the cost of learning. Good luck p.s. Remember while you're riding on a CBT to display both L plates on the front and back and make sure they are full size, not cut down. People fail to realise how important this is. You won't believe how many try to get away with it, but failure to display can lead to appearance in the magistrates court or even a s.165 carried out at the roadside which sees your bike seized and stored, costing you over £100 to get it back (and it's scrapped within 14 days if not paid for). Just worth pointing out because I've had quite a lot of these recently and the old "oh, it must have fallen off" excuse is getting old
  15. I presume we are still talking about an open fire here. Do you live in a smoke free area? If so then yes, you can get action taken on the fact that someone is burning smoke producing fuels. If you don't live in a smoke free area but are concerned about what's being burnt in your neighbours fire then I suggest you speak to environmental health to get further advice. At the very least they can advise you or point you in the right direction for your next move.
  16. Your experience of the Abbey Friar is not unique, I think they've lost it too. It's a shame, what's happened?
  17. Not sure if you want to just focus on the housing market or not, but it appears this current climate is affecting other areas of life too. I was speaking to a black cab driver the other night who told me she'd only made £40 after working about 10 hours! It seems that everyone's starting to feel this financial climate at the moment.
  18. I actually like it when the post person leaves something with my neighbour if I'm not in, it saves me a treck to the sorting office on my next day off. I've never had a postal worker knock on my door though, my neighbours must be in all the time
  19. Abbey friar have seriously gone way down hill. About 13 years ago they were one of the best in Sheffield but it seems to have changed over the years. I recommend Poesidan on Abbeylane, Two Steps in Sharrowvale or Jimmy's by Endcliffe Park. Poesidan is decent portions, good choice and decent prices. Two steps is very nice food and the homemade pies are excellent. Jimmy's is good for the sausage specials.
  20. Are these tunnels still accessible and safe to use? It would be interesting if someone could arrange a tour. Surely it's not a case of "to hell with the tunnels" and hiding behind solicitors to ruin history from Shield? On the subject of underground tunnels, I always found this fascinating. I'd love to get down there, but the chances are a definite zero unfortunately.
  21. I used Road Runner when I did my first CBT 13 years ago and when I came to do my direct access 3 or 4 years ago I went back to them and found them to be just as good. I highly recommend Road Runner, very friendly and not bad on the price either. Good luck with the test (If you can avoid the Rotherham test centre then do so, those roundabouts can be a pain in the bum )
  22. If you want a decent car kit then take a look at the Sony Ericsson HCB 300. Despite being a Sony Ericsson kit it will work with any phone that has bluetooth. It's a fitted kit, so it comes through your car stereo speakers and is very clear. It supports voice dial and connects to the phone via bluetooth, so no messy wires etc. and a nice bonus is that you can pair it with several phones, so if you have a work and personal phone and another car user has a phone, all will work with this device without messing about. If you shop around you can get one of these for between £30-40 (try Ebay) and they take about 20 minutes to fit to a car if you have a basic idea of fitting car stereos. If not then fitting shouldn't cost more than £40 at the most, so it's a very cheap option for a professional standard car kit. I would recommend avoiding a car kit that has a fixed screen if possible. I've attended quite a few jobs where offenders have mistaken the screens to be a satnav or other equipment and broken in to steal it.
  23. That's fair enough. I just thought it may be the case that there was some sort of internal order or something stating that you shouldn't give out cash unless 100% necessary because looking at the CEX forum a few weeks back, on the CEX site, I could see people complaining that they never had cash in and I know from trying to sell mobiles to them that I had a similar experience. *edit* -Looking on there now it appears there are less of these currently, but still lots of unhappy CEX users http://forums.cex.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=11&sid=40f6cc550f17e8f45db2e9f6c1853be3
  24. Ebay's becoming worse as time goes on. Their recent changes mean that some sellers, especially those that don't trade as often on Ebay, can easily be left without the money for their sold goods for 28 days! I think there was also something about almost forcing Paypal on to users at some point too, although I can't find the article at the moment so can't be sure. It also appears that Ebay staff are often very quick to cancel an auction because they don't understand what the item being sold is and when questioned send poor responses instead of decent customer service. It used to be a decent auction site and I used to buy and sell a lot of items on there but over the last 12 months I've stopped using it because it's gone from bad to worse, so I can understand why some people don't want to use it.
  25. What are you views on CEX seemingly pushing to give store credit rather than buy goods from the public? Is this something that is set as a hard sell to give credit instead? I appreciate it's a good way to make money, but it does appear to be getting harder to get actual cash for items from CEX which is what I thought the store was there fore in the first place.
