  1. Heard that a chip shop is on its way into the market soon
  2. yep, we are a traditional fish and chip shop, so we cook in beef dripping as it should be. As for the pies......for us it has to be Potter's of Barnsley and of course relish lol
  3. they use codling.....baby cod, very thin and doesn't have the flavour of mature cod
  4. first of all let me say thank you for visiting us and your compliments on our new RESTAURANT LOL I noted your concern on our prices, so let me explain 1x cod meal in castle market was £4.95 so for two it would have been just under a tenner now for the last two years of the castle market we did not have a price rise( in actual fact the price of these meals should have been £12-£13) because the market had deteriorated ie cold, drafty and truthfully not the nicest surrounding, our prices were kept low but we needed a very fast turnover to make it pay as the window for selling fish and chips is very short. We now offer vastly superior surroundings for people to enjoy our fish and chips our local competition eg john lewis fish and chips £8.95 Debenhams 6.95 browns £9.95 drink and bread extra to these prices ours £5.90/£6.90 so we are competitive with other RESTAURANTS. Fishcakes are available in our traditional fish and chip take away. BUT we have marketed the restaurant as a FISH and chip restaurant. yes there are cheaper alternatives to sit and eat fish and chips but they don't come on a plate with waitress service, freshley ground coffee and loose leaf tea in a teapot. Remember we have gone UPMARKET not in the market.
  5. Markets manager is Andy Ward, if anybody wants to ask him any questions.
  6. How can borrowing 18m be a good deal if you are repaying 1.1m back over 65 years?? Service charge at meadowhall for a unit in the lanes is £945 a quarter, a unit in the food court moor market is £3150 a quarter
  7. the council didn't buy the land...it was given to them by Scottish widows on condition that the council borrowed the money from them. This is why they have to repay 1.1M a year, which also made the rents so high to repay the loan
  8. At what cost will the council keep the market open? Yesterday afternoon the water was switched off. No water to any stalls cafes or toilets. How did they wash their hands I wonder??
  9. Tm meats will be owned and run by Richard the young butcher from Mick's meats. It will be his first business, but he is an excellent butcher well worth trying
  10. Well said, but then is there a council that does listen?
  11. the council didn't listen to any information given to them by market traders, I guess the council know whats for the best eh??
  12. the markets can beat the supermarkets by choice and trader knowledge, even as a trader for 14 years in the old market i still shopped at a supermarket because I couldnt get eveything I needed in the market. But how often does a supermarket have a butchers or fishcounter manned all the time it is open? Or have it manned by people with the knowledge of what they are selling?
  13. Maybe the new markets future is as a mainly food market, with less Tat as you put it. Perhaps they should try and encourage new artisan Foodstuffs?
  14. A trader came in to see how we are getting on today, he said that things are not that good. Why are not as many people using the market?
  15. fresh scampi?..no, but potters who supply in the market?..yes!
  16. Sorry the price has gone up, we could afford to keep the prices low in CM, but we have had to borrow over 50K to get this business off the ground. Cod is now £2.80, I do hope that doesn't put you off from coming to have a look anyway.
  17. we're open now!.......blimey, it's been hard work lol
  18. Blimey!.......I hope we don't get slated this bad when we open!!
  19. will try an post our opening day on here, but the mods might remove it coz they will see it as advertising lol..............but keep an eye open around the 2nd of january hahaha
  20. cuttsie....old pollards coffee shop......it's looking good so far lol
  21. yes i did. I didn't know that it was illegal though, a farmer used to collect years ago from one of our other shops, that must be why they stopped, thanks anyway
  22. Any pig farmers on here? Or does anybody know a pig farmer that may be interested in chip shop scraps for free?
