  1. I totally aggree Kitkat that Sheffield city centre is a dump and has been for years. I am mainly refering to the market area and this has been billed for total regeneration in the near future. Leeds and Manchester are far more nicer places and they both have nice suburbs to like Branshope in Leeds and Didsbury in Manchester. the only better thing Sheffield has is its country side but that does,nt count as we all live in the real world of the city.
  2. Eurosport will show live coverage also, but i did'nt mention it as not everyone has it.
  3. Not on Channel 4 no more as they got rid to put on cricket instead. Said they want to attract younger viewers, what a joke can,t see cricket doing that somehow. It will be on ITV 1 late\at night or live on ITV 2. for 3 weeks.
  4. Dis-aggree as we don,t get digital T.v for nothing.I pay extra on top of my T.V licence so if anything it should be the other way round and us paying less for our T.V licence.
  5. It is not a question of just protecting your property, its more a case of protecting your family. If a burglar comes up my stairs i am not going to take chances on if he might attack me, my wife and 3 young children, i am gonna persume he will because if he is confronted he will attack. two cases which have happened on my own doorstep lately. 1.An old woman on my road living on her own and a widow. The intruder ransacks her downstairs then goes in her bed room and physically wakes her up and says to her face to face "You,ve just been burgled" and left the house. 2. A burglary round the corner from me they break in the house and steal his stuff while he was in bed. Again he hears them and goes down stairs to confront them. When he gets down they have already gone out through the kitchen and left on the chip pan. When the police arrived he said that they even had cheek to try and make some chips. The police then told him that they had no plans to make chips and the hot chip fat was for you if you disturbed them. Lucky they had already left i,d say, but if he had not come down they could have been on a more serious charge of Murder due to the house burning down. The people who sympaphise with these morons about minimal force want to look at the real situation. Do you think that a burglar is going to let you grab his arm and say OK mate fair cop i,ll wait here while you phone the police.
  6. I believe there is a tunnel from The Sheffield castle and goes under the Pitsmoor estate linking the old castle that used to stand in the area were Pye Bank School and the Pitsmoor estate is now.
  7. You are so right that the area is fine its the people that live on it. I was born and raised in Pitsmoor during the 60s and 70s and boy has it declined. The trouble is this generation is not what it was during those times and people no longer have respect for property or people.
  8. The Tony Martin case has come up again and though i thought they were having a laugh it was said that the Home Office are putting in ledgislation to protect burglars from being hurt. Now what i would do if someone broke into my home i would take the law into my own hands to protect my family. a burglar is hell bent on taking your property whatever the cost and if you get in there way your likely to get hurt or even killed. They show no mercy when confronted. I have 3 young Children and if a stranger comes up my stairs he gets the baseball bat, no question about that. Tony martin was a frightened man and although it was a bit extreme to shoot one of them you can see why he did it. Anyone who has faced a burglar in there own home knows that you are a great deal more frightened than he is. What would you do in Tony martins case and also comments about the new law to protect the burglars would be appreciated. I don,t want to open a topic into the actuall Martin case but the law is already an ass in this country and this makes it even more so. Sorry about putting this in the wrong section, should have been put into GENERAL CHITCHAT.[/siz] Lickszz- Topic Moved
  9. This could be Sheffields own Ali and Forman. Lets take bets on whos got the knockout insult. My moneys on Halevan the Totley Terror make it a clean fight lads. Halevan Sidla
  10. Hello Fredrik and Heidi Answer to the travelling time from London to Sheffield by car is around 2.5 to 3 hours direct up the M1. Its about 166 miles, not sure of the conversion to killometres. Accomadation in Sheffield is resonable as such but you won,t be eligable for council property which means you will have to rent from a private landlord which could be more expensive. You should be able to rent for about £50 per week if you look round and it may be worth visiting the Sheffield Stars web site under the classified section. I,m intregued why you have picked Sheffield and not other places. There are some good cafes in Sheffield but not a lot of them, and they seem to make a booming business so if you have the colatral to start one i feel that it may be a good choice. The old cafes in the industrial areas have long gone along with the Steel works that once chocked the East end of the city. Areas around Football grounds may be a good choice or the town centre but that would be expensive i would imagine.
  11. Your right.........Broom, Brecks and Wickersley are nice areas in Rotherham also parts of Bramley and Thurcroft are worth looking at.
  12. If you work hard and lookafter your home and play by the book in this country you get edited on by this council. If you are an unsocable un savoury charactor pay no council tax or any other tax if that, then the council will spend money on you. I have worded this in another way round without being accused of being discrimative but i suggest if you want a new door on your mums house she turns to drugs or breaks the law. I,m not saying that everyone is tied with the same brush in Burngreave but there is a higher percentage that are.
  13. OOOh......now now Internetowl........It is where i live, all nice and private plenty of trees and very very Green......... You seem a little ,never mind 40s humour maybe not your strong point. Bye the way missed out on where you live, anywhere nicer than Longley.
  14. Thought this topic was about Stephen Downing not you lot sqabling over apostrophies...Lets get back to the real topic. If Downing has already been compensated and the new police enquiry which is still on going ruled out anybody else who could have done this murder then one contridicts the other as they are saying that Downing is the only suspect and then paying him a big fat cheque for serving 27 years. Mind you the Law is far from perfect anyway as it tends to look after the criminals and ignore the victims.
  15. Are you the one that nicked Bob Monkhouses joke book or what. Your having a laugh, or i hope so but if not you need help.
  16. Stannington.........Loxley....Go and look at those two and decide. The views are green and you wont go away disapointed.
  17. Whats wrong with Skeggy. I take the kids there twice a year as they love Butlins, though flying accidents are so rare that you are 1000s of times more chance of getting killed in a car accident. If you drive a car then the least of your worries are crashing in a plane. My Grandad was a pilot he used to fly all the big stars like Buddy Holly, Jim Reeves Big Bopper, Pattsi Cline and Audey Murphy.
  18. We used to have the rag man come round with a barrow shouting "any old rags". We used to get a balloon or a gold fish if we gave any to him. I remember my mum asking if anybody had seen her new dress. dare,nt tell her the rag man had just taken it . Nice gold fish though.
  19. first of all i don,t think Mr Downing has been compansated yet as he is still top suspect for this murder after an intensive new inquiry, however regarding the film I think the parents of Wendy Sewell, persuming there still alive should benefit financially from this film. We don't want criminals benefiting from this type of crime unless he is exonarated without any doubt. Bakewell seems a nice setting but maybe to close to home i reckon.
  20. Global Warming does it exist, if our planets getting hotter why has it missed here. Is our planet getting wetter ??...It is in our country. Whats your view on GLOBAL WARMING......can the hole be repaired.
  21. Ask anyone over 35 about the long hot summers in Sheffield and they will say 1975 and 76. Those summers went on for ever and we have not had one since nor are we likely to. They say that global warming is making our planet hotter, well that was,nt around in those days and June and July and Augast was in the 90s every day. Different subject i admit but global warming theory is a load of codswollop. If we are to have a red hot summer it will be totally natural as in 75/76. Got to admit though the winters these days are definatly milder, is that global warming...........??????? Do,nt reply to this about global warming, i have just opened a topic on that in general chit chat. Anybody remember seeing the church spire in the Ladybower in 75 and 76.
  22. Worksop also has Sheffield postcodes but its not part of Sheffield.
  23. Creed, by that dya mean Creedance clearwater revival if so they would be great, probably hassbeens now though, Led Zeplin sound.
  24. I remember all the 70s and most of the 60s to and i,m only 43. Wht do you mean "only" i heard that. Anyone remember the massive war time bomb found on Verdon Street and the explosion of the gas works down Effingham Road. My mates dad was killed in that. I was watching Corrination Street quite recent about the two gunmen and mentioning they meet up in the mucky duck. The researchers are a bit out of date as the muckey duck as been shut ages. Not sure if its still there to be honest.
