  1. I also worked with Ernest Pearson, when he was the accountant at Redhead Travel Universal Limited on Carver Street his assistant was a lady called Mavis Percey and Trevor Wood was the Branch Manager.
  2. My deceased wife Lotte worked in the Travel Department @s&E (with a Morag & Christine). I think the name of the maager was Eric Ward?
  3. Only the Bernie Inn near Woodseats had The Steaks as good as the Panther back in the 60/70s. I left Sheffield before The Pink Panther changed ownership.
  4. There was a Redhead Universal Travel on Chesterfield Road at the Woodseats area.
  5. I used to visit this pub with airline reps (BOAC - BEA - KLM) and tour operators reps (Clarksons - Cosmos - Horizon Midlands) back in the 1970s. Seemed the landlord (forgot his name) was once in the travel industry and this was the reason it was frequented by many Sheffield orientated travel Agents. I remember only always having good times at the place. But then this is going back some 45 to 47 years..............
  6. It was actually Bradleys try to get into the Musical Instrumental sales. They did however sell RCA American Imports at around 50% off the UK Issue LP's. I think the competition from Wilson Pecks and Canns was to great and they gave it up after about 2 years... This was somewhere around late 60's early 70's.
  7. Actually the did sell RCA American Imports - Dynaflex editions at 50% off the UK issues.... I purchased loads of Elvis and Jerry Reed stuff at West Street.

  9. Locations of Bradleys Records. 59 Fargate Sheffield 103 West Street Sheffield 101 Pinstone Street Sheffield (Tapes) 2/4 South Mall Doncaster 22 Market Street Halifax 19 Yorkshire Street Rochdale 69/71 Drake Street Rochdale 2 The Walk Rochdale (Tapes)
  10. Only visited Heeley Baths a few time. I went to the baths at Upperthorpe on Sunday morning when I was with BSAC (learning to scuba dive)…. Sometime we also used Glossop Road for week-day venues.
  11. Saturday afternoon, got my pay pack, then the bus #52 where I used to get my 45’s – EP’s & sometimes a LP from a shop at the corner of Whitham Road/ Fulwood Road/Crookes Road/Nile Street. Then walked to Springvale Road, where I lived. Spruced up and then in the evening to the cinema at Crookes (It became a Fine Fare). I left Sheffield in 1975….. Memorabilia’s of Sheffield…. Great Place.
  12. Yes you are right. Barry Smith was the manager at the Fargate Branch and I remember an Alan Trower being the manager at the Pinstone Street. I also remember a great record place on Fulwood Road (at the corner of Crookes Road and Nile Street) There was a pub, I think it was ‘The South Seas’ and ‘The Pink Panther Restaurant’ that was between this record shop. (1960/1970ish)….. What ever happen to Wilson's and Pecks? Opposite Bradley's on the corner (Leopold Street) before the Odeon/Gaumont/City Hall.
  13. Hi Cossy, I thought Ron Neal came from Rochdale? I also remember a Barry Smith being a manager at Fargate. As for the shop at West Street, it was for musical instruments but they also had a load of RCA American Imports (Dynaflex) The LP covers used to have one corner dented as they were imports. They were a lot cheaper than UK editions. I used to purchase a lot of Elvis, Jerry Reed at this place. I used to work at RTU on Carver Street and spent many a lunch hours at this West Street branch testing guitars. My first guitar I purchased at Canns..
  14. I left Sheffield in 1978 - On a contract for two years to Kenya and been away ever since. Would just like to know what happened to Redhead Travel Universal Limited on Carver Street as I worked for a short time at this travel agency. Also is the Co-op (S&E) at the bottom of The Moor still there? Someone told me all these places are now gone! Thanks for any replies
  15. I lived in the 60ties in Sheffield and I remember Cann’s on Chapel Walk. I brought my first electric Guitar (A Japanese model) at Canns in 1964 with a huge valve Amp from H+H. Here is a photo of it – Any ideas what it is? http: //i70.photobucket.com/albums/i108/jdodiep/dodie%20self/dodieguitar.jpg A couple of years later I purchased a Gibson acoustic at Canns. Both guitars I had to leave behind in Nigeria when I was evacuated during the Biafra war. Bradleys never had a shop in Chapel Walk. Their main office was at Fargate, The manager was called Barry Smith. Then they had a shop selling musical instruments and very cheap American RCA imports LP’s at a shop on West Street just before Carver Street. Also they opened a shop at Pinstone Street just before the Cambridge Street intersection, I remember the manager being called Alan Trower. Bradleys were originally from Royston and the owner was called Ron Bradley. I purchased literally hundreds of records from Bradley’s. Wilson Pecks was another music store on the corner of Barkers Pool and Leopold Street. Sheet music I used to buy at W & Ps and at Phillip Cann but I used to buy 45’s & LP’s at Bradley’s cause they gave me good discount.
