I used to live at 165 Maltravers Rd with my Mum Anne and brother Adrian!! We had the Fairhursts next door at 167 and the Turners at 163!!! Great days and memories from then, must have been the very late 70's to about 83/4!! We went to St Oswalds.

Have you moved away from Sheffield?
DeanCahill replied to Cycleracer's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
Here goes!!! Born in Sheffield in '71, earliest memory is of living on Bard St up 'til '77/8, then moved onto Wybourn House Rd 'til moving onto Maltravers Rd,still on the Wybourn, then moved onto Hyde Park Flats in approx '83. We did the ultimate sin and moved to the wrong side of the Pennines to Oldham in '86. I left Oldham to be with my 'holiday romance' in Taunton Somerset in '98 which i met in Majorca the previous year. We've been married 4yrs this 30th Nov. That's my story in a nutshell. -
What school did you go to and when?
DeanCahill replied to Paul Cocker's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
All Saints R/C all the way,yeah!!!!! -
Who was the best school teacher in Sheffield?
DeanCahill replied to Teabag's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
Mrs Rigby at St Oswalds primary school was brill, what i remember since i left there in 1982.Mr Hutchinson who taught us Science at All Saints R/C was cool, and Mr Jones the P.E/History teacher was tough but fair!!! -
I too used to live on the Wybourn Estate, 1st moved into 95 Wybourn house rd back in 1977/8 for a year or 2, then moved onto 165 Maltravers rd (next door to the Fairhursts) 'til about 1983/4 before then moving onto Hyde Park flats Roland row). My mums best mate (who my bruv and i called Auntie Pat) lived at the corner of Whites Lane/Manor Oakes rd on the left.We went to St Oswalds R/C primary school. Always drive through reminiscing when i'm in Sheffield. Not changed much there!!!!!!!!

Joe Cocker once came to our house when i was about 11yrs old when we lived on Maltravers rd on the Wybourn back in the early 80's. My mum was a mate of one of his singers at the time. She was in a boozer with her mates up Crookes and it was his local (apparently)!! So all these people came to ours for a massive p*ss up continued at ours , we got introduced to this hairy headed geezer with massive side-burns and then sent off to bed for obviously a good nights sleep !!!! NOT BLOODY LIKELY!!!!!!!

Sunny old Taunton Somerset here in the U.K, not exactly exotic but the weather has been for the last six weeks or so!!!!! -
Thanks for the offer but i'll be visiting Sheffield next weekend anyway so i'll be stocking up!!! Good job i drive an estate car!!!!
-
I'll swap ya it all for some of this crap (Scrumpy) any day!!!
-
One,for me, goes very well wit me chips and the other on a cheese sarnie!!! I don't think i'd do it the other way!!! Off me head, i'd say Branston is the sweeter one of the 2 and that Hendersons is more of a tangy with a touch of spice and is up there as a good reason why chips were invented,in my book that is anyway!!!!!
-
Having left the 'right side of the Pennines' in '86 and then had the unfortunate pleasure of Lancashire 'til '98,it wasn't that difficult to get hold of the black stuff in a bottle for my chips and pies or a good splash on my stew!! Now i live here in Taunton Somerset and now it's not as easy.On my last visit up in God's greatest county i bought 10 bottles from a store in Stocksbridge and the lady who served me almost fell off her chair in amazement and didn't know what to do or say when i said " i love it on my Cornflakes!!" Now i'm down to my last bottle and it's being used sparingly until i get up to Sheffield next weekend!!!
