  1. I've just read "Here, There & Everywhere" by Geoff Emerick. If you want an insight into the recording of Revolver and Pepper then it's well worth a read. Never before (or since) have the boundaries been pushed so far. I agree with the comment about Tomorrow Never Knows - it's still light years ahead of its time.

  2. Ok - it's been a few years since I went to Meadowhall but I got dragged there today. I've got to say that the most impressive thing there was the hand dryers in the loos. What a great invention. If you've not seen them ....

You put your hands in them and draw them out slowly. Your hands are dry in less then 10 seconds. No more hanging around for a minute then wiping your still wet hands on your trousers on the way out. Superb design that actually works.

Mr Dyson, I take my hat off to you.

  3. The Beatles of course - not when they were famous though, but during their formative Hamburg days.

The same with Pink Floyd - I've seen them live a couple of times (post Waters) but I would have loved to have been in the London scene circa '67.

I went to the Marquee Club in London a few times back in the 80's - just walking through the foyer looking at the old set lists made me green with envy.

    Read this and weep ...

  5. Why do people deal with the estate agents anyway. When we bought 3 years ago the only time I contacted the EA was on moving day when I asked where we pick up the keys. They only contacted me once to confirm we had the funds to buy the house.

Freeze out the EA. Deal and negotiate with the vendors. They're probably nice people who just want to sell and move on. If not, walk away.

  6. Not many ladies on this post, are there. Why is it such a man thing ?

    Anyway ....

Linn Sondek LP12/ Akito / Lingo

    Naim pre/power amp

    Linn Keilidh speakers

    Marantz CD

    Denon tuner

    Sony minidisc

    Yamaha cassette deck

    Audio Technica headphones

The thing that got me into hi-fi was a trip to Abbey Road studios in the early 80's. Abbey Rd opened its doors for a couple of weeks, hosting a Beatles presentation, playing stuff through monitor speakers in the actual studio they recorded on. Completely blew me away.

Went out and bought a Rega 3 / Creek / Kef Coda set up then moved on from there.

  7. I've got a 32inch Sony Bravia and am well pleased.

My daughter has a42 inch plasma and I don't think it's all that good a picture

My sis has a 42" plasma from Bush - which has a crap picture

I have a 42" Panasonic plasma - which is superb.

Whichever you go for, be it LCD or plasma, the brand is more important than the format.

  8. My girlfriend was stung by a beggar near the bus station a couple of nights ago. Apparently she was a respectable-looking and well-spoken girl who needed the coach fare to get home to Burton On Trent (which is just South of Derby) and nothing like the usual druggies and scammers you see round the bus station. What convinced my girlfriend was that the begging girl not only sounded genuine but burst into tears as well. I'm a cynical old git who suspects that some of them can turn on the tears any time they like to win sympathy. In the end my girlfriend gave her a couple of quid.

    Anyone else met this one?

Yep, that's the one. Now I'm no fool and have never been conned in all my 40 odd years but she got me as well, but she certainly isn't your average beggar. She was well dressed and spoken and started talking about her previous visits to Sheffield because of her interest in the architecture etc. As mentioned on a previous post, what made me believe the story was that she went to write down contact details in a diary so I took the diary from her and asked her some questions from the personal details in it (thinking that if she had nicked a handbag herself she would not know the fine details of the person). She answered these without hesitation including names, addresses in Burton, fathers name and address and telephone number etc etc. She called herself Rebecca Myers by the way, just in case it jogs anyones memory on here.

VERY, VERY convincing but in the words of The Who - "Won't get fooled again", even if that means ignoring the odd genuine case out there.
