Should have also recommended the window people we used in my previous post. We had new windows put in everywhere and I was dreading having to call Safestyle and list to their five hour "presentation" before they would tell me how much the windows were going to be. Luckily I was saved from that by our surveyor (Martin Saunders at Hale Saunders on 1114 2492555 - brilliant guy and spot on surveyor) who recommended Vision Windows. They came out, measured up and quoted all within 30 minutes, booked the work in and turned up absolutely on time with fantastic windows, properly installed by really nice guys (who hoovered up after themselves - hello!!) at a price which was really reasonable now that I have found out what my neighbours paid for exactly the same thing. We have just renovated a house in Crookes and used the forum to find all our workmen with great results. So if it is any help here are some great recommendations: Joinery: C&C Property Solutions - Joinery division. Call Jason on 07830 376072. He sent Gary who did a brilliant job renewing doorways, putting in new doors (including fitting all new locks, etc.), building new cupboards, putting up a blustrade and spindles, building shelves, putting down new floors and skirtings. All top notch work. Came when they said they would and completed it for the price quoted. What more can be said! Plumbing: T.A.P. Plumbing Services. Call Tom on 07810 545673. He fitted the new bathroom and tiled it and re-plumbed and fitted the kitchen as well as tiling it. He also replastered the kitchen ceiling. Again the work he did was really good and he worked long hours to get it finished on time and on budget. Electrics: Rickie Piddington on 0795 160 4983. He re-wired the whole house without knocking seven bells out of it and even turned out on a Sunday morning to get part of his work done so he wouldn't be in the way of the other tradesmen the next day. Again no complaints whatsoever with the work done and done when he said, how he said and on budget. All thoroughly nice guys who I would recommend to anyone.

I urgently need the following for our new house in Crookes as I've just been let down by a builder (not his fault). Someone who can hack the plaster off the fireplace in the kitchen and open it up so we can put a cooker in it. A plasterer. A kitchen fitter. A tiler. Any recommendations would be much appreciated. It is soo hard to move to a new city with no contacts for stuff like this.

Ive just bought a house in Crookes and we "lost out" on sealed bids with three houses. The estate agents are almost all playing games and it is crap to say that they "don't know what the true value of a house is without testing the market." They see houses sold day in and day out and put ridiculously low :offers around" prices on the details to lure you through the door and absolutely WILL NOT tell you what they think the property will go for or what the vendor will accept. This system is not used anywhere else that I know of and Sheffield should kick all its agents into touch until they start to perform honestly and openly.
