  1. You are right but I have actually travelled several times from middle USA to India and Thailand and taken long train journeys there as well in the eighties. I have spoken with many people about travelling and can smell the fakeness in this three day journey a mile away. British Airways to New Zealand is only 24 hours.
  2. If I leave at the 13th I will fly around the world and on 16th land back at Manchester. Trains in middle east can take long time but in that case they often have good sleeping cabins. Most flights to and from Middle East are direct flights and I'm very curious where this weird 12 hour terminal wait comes from in this case. Still do not believe a word of it. Only some weirdo saying a wife journey taking three days in a world where this is really not necessary any longer.
  3. I do not believe this story or calculations. They are unrealistic and stupid. London to Inverness is 8 hour train journey for example, 20 hour train journey combined with international flight seems rather unnecessary for most people. And complaining things are a hassle yet booking a flight with a 12 hour wait at terminal in between is just plain stupid.
  4. That's fine but 20 hours train plus 16 hour flight with a 12 hour wait at a terminal is still just two days. Hope she has a good and safe journey. It is only natural you want to see her and do this as comfortable as possible. When calculating travel times you need to get your maths back up to date. Instead of wasting money on a taxi I would book a hotel for those 12 hours at terminal to have some rest.
  5. Walk around wicker or spital hill or london road takeaway area and look for any not all too crazy character who is driving a reasonable car and offer them some money to take you to airport to pick up the wife. Plenty of good BMW VW driven by people who do not seem too busy around, who will wake up when you offer some money for a little job like that. Will be reliable enough, offer lots of money pay them half upfront then refuse to give rest saying you do don't have a legal business contract with them.
  6. The longest commercial flights in the world are less than 19 hours, in 3 days you will have gone around the world and come back where you started. And if you live life thinking of things as hassles, I feel very sorry for you because a hassle turns everything into a struggle. My suggestion was purely for a reasonable pleasant rail strike alternative when no trains coaches or taxies will be available or unreasonable expensive.
  7. Things may get rather funny round the train strike days. I don't know how taxies will react but extra coaches to london increased 500% in price last train strike. A last option but not a bad one would be to take busses to/from buxton between sheffield and manchester airport. It works fine, just a little longer but travels beautifull landscapes.
  8. A half full bus is still much better for environment than if these people all took their car impeding traffic flow. If you want to stop frustration I suggest to start with oneself. Scc will never ever make you feel less frustrated it's not their job or responsibility to sort people emotions.
  9. The game is on the screen today but the view in middle is blocked by the advertising sign on fargate and you stand aside and view is blocked by the container. There are ten people trying to watch it. Denmark Tunesië
  10. Yes but managed to watch the game on the bus and made it home for the first goal. What they show on that container screen is so disgusting. How about a big apology for being unqualified and incapable to run Sheffield City centre would be better and more appropriate. There is such a thing as making a bad thing even worse and that's what they are doing now.
  11. England's first game is not on that screen the council bragged about. I felt like throwing the eggs I had with me at it. What an embarrassed thought that it was for important sport events. Could watch the game on my mobile so that went fine. But heard someone else say to a friend they would stop paying council tax because they were actually paying tax to be shown advertising in city centre.
  12. I suggest you start a separate beer topic in the I am bored section when continueng like this. Or go to the market yourself to have a look and see what it is like.
  13. The xmas market is not just at the moor and a section is by peacegardens and container area. There were lots of people there today saturday noon, despite the damp weather. Might check it out a bit moor later on another day but did not feel tempted to have any food or drinks there. Sheffield city centre needs some urgent new development to bring it back to live. The dirty empty shops/buildings are becoming too much of a trend there and a public toilet container is not going to sort this. The xmas market dit make it all feel a bit better at the moment.
  14. Had a look at that and thought that whoever wrote this has more obsessions with beer and alcohol than celebrating christmas.
  15. I went to the moor market yesterday through side door and get some veg and fruit there but then walked earl/matilda way. Was at peace gardens for a little bit but thought maybe perhaps next year when the sun shines again, upper Furnival way was blocked by something weird. Orchard square was nice and quit, three employees in the bodyshop and while talking with them not a single other customer came at 11 am that is what meadowhall "used" to be like before few years ago. Oh I forgot parking was £6 for two hours but had no choice because had to do something else inportant on the way and was running late for that thinking oh one extra hour on it so what.
  16. There is an old 2011 discussion on forum about this called. Northern General Hospital-Motorcycle Parking They say you can park it by AE but this info is 11 year old.
  17. I know what you mean but waited ten minutes and there were five other people waiting as well. Few people in tram not trailing and three conductors. One was at me in seconds didn't see the point really one conductor would have been fine on that tram.
  18. Tram train is usually not crowded any day of week. I was on a yellow one last sunday and there were less people on it than yellow tram weekdays at similar time (mid afternoon).
  19. Can't do something with nothing. This society is creating more depressions and suicides than ever before. It may sound strange but cutting back children's development will be part of this they need real people around them for their emotional development. Maybe government is hoping to develop some sort of future child who could be educated by a computer system. When I was a child, I was screaming at my mom that I wanted a digital watch, they had just come and could just show time and date. Now many kids have iphones or something like that. This is a very big difference in development and more computers lesser real people are needed. But this will not benefit emotional personal development.
  20. The gates under broughton lane have been removed now. It was a bit of a surprise to me since I did not expect that to happen till december or later. I expected it to be all overgrown but that was not the case. It is such a beautiful hidden part of Sheffield. The path was in good strong condition and there were no puddles there on that bit. But the part between the locks and meadowhall was still closed.
  21. Today's Sunday tram from Carbrook to cathedral at 1PM had way less passengers than a usual weekday tram at that time.
  22. Next road up from us has brown bin collection when ours is blue bin and vise verse. But it's the same lorry that picks it all up. I've always wondered why it is done that way.
  23. I will never ever give sheffield star one penny. On my list of liars, they may be a little different but are right up there with boris johnson.
  24. Doesnt porter brook/sheaf run underneath there in that area? I already see it happening that the project comes into problems because porter brook need moving or strengthening at enormous cost.
