  1. Everytime the economy gets worse and people get poorer the need for churches increases to pray to god for a better time in a fantasy heaven in a non existing future. A strong hope to soften the increasing pain of the existing world are given beautiful promises that god will let a poor person enter into heaven but a rich one will not get through the eye of a needle. Again religion has fooled people into believing Jesus and god are their saviours from their misery until they realise that they are not dependant and godliness is not a worship but a universal discovery free from the church. There is a direct connection between peoples daily happiness in life, economy and the need for churches to heal the wounds.
  2. 51 to lodge moor has a nice view on the top and if you feel like walking you can walk through rivelin to the supertram. or by Stanedge to fox house to take 272, 273, 65 back.
  3. The coastliner and derby buses and all other uk buses after 9.30 AM. All SY buses anytime of day. I paid for the first 15 minutes of the coastliner bus to Whitby one time while getting on at 9.15 and then used the pass for the rest of journey. You can travel coast to coast by bus on OAP if you want to. It is not recommended if you are in a hurry or have little patience. If you are used to driving the pass is a different world of travel that cannot be compared with driving. I don't go to Whitby anymore, did it a few times they are good buses, scenic ride, but it takes far too long. The 275 takes you to centre of ladybower and all the way to bakewell but only does that once or twice a day. The 218 gets you back again. The 65 to buxton is my topper winner for scenic and cultural experience. The chippy in buxton is also superior. ---------- Post added 07-08-2013 at 16:50 ---------- Again this is not Sheffield but 25 Penistone to Holmfirth goes by dunford bridge as well. Very scenic but you can use OAP to take train to Penistone. Train or x78 to Doncaster for shopping is always a good day out. Public transport is very boring and after a while you get really sick of it. I have driven for 20 years but medical problems made me stop driving. After a while that pas is appreciated but will never be a compensation for your own vehicle.
  4. These buses are outside Sheffield, but Take a train to leeds and then the coastliner bus to Whitby (takes 3.5 hrs non stop from leeds through all places in between). The 65 Sheffield to buxton bus goes through all ancient historic derby villages, very scenic and buxton is a great place to get some chips or do some shopping. Then take a a scenic busroute back by taking buxton to bakewell then 218 to sheffield 272,273,274 Castleton or bradwell for a pint. Take the train to Huddersfield, bus to leeds and train back to Sheffield. Bradfield (61) can be nice as long as it is not raining. Lots of farms sell farm eggs around there
  5. They were on look north last night, bragging they had reduced fatalities on the road over 10 years. Without mentioning or crediting those results to better quality saver car technologies last ten years. ---------- Post added 07-08-2013 at 08:30 ---------- Used to shop at morrisons. The one in Hillsborough used to be allright but that one in chappeltown was so dirty I wondered if they ever cleaned it.
  6. The police was scared they would get their wallet pickpocket. On the motorway in Germany the police stopped a vehicle with 21 romanian passengers. The maximum capacity for this vehicle was 9 people. It was so overloaded it almost touched the road.
  7. It has never been my intention to disagree. The main problems are not in my backyard because both neighbour landlords rent to integrated people only because they see the problems in pagehall and act responsibly accordingly, refusing all easy offers from the invasion of noisy garbage foreigners. Other parts of pagehall what is happening now does not work. Anything else, even if it is licensing, could help to make things different from the way they are now. Continuing the way it is now is out of question. The licensing program is clearly made with the intention to stop wrong tenants from entering and keeping the people entering the rental properties in a cultural social balance. Saying that some areas are now 80% foreigners. Who allowed that to happen? The council did not do it, the police did not, I did not do it and my neighbours landlords did not do it either. The main protests against the program are Asian landlords protesting that the £500 for an early 5 year registration is too much. A property means responsibility and £500 for first 5 years is a very small expense for a property for people to live in. These protesters are the real type of people that ruin the area socially and property value, with their selfish greed unprepared to try something new. I am not for licensing but am against continuing the way it is now therefore licensing is better than nothing.
  8. Thank you warrior, Lots of good landlords are paying (unnecessarily?) to keep few bad ones under control. After 5 years many Eastern EU people will have integrated better. The license will not do that job, people willingness to connect and help each other to learn will do that. Warrior, we both want page hall to recover, I don't belief my way is the only way and appreciate your language here and see you are right and make a good point on many issues here. I agree with you 100% that the license appears to be very questionable, but something needs to be done, something more than nothing. I will read those other things tomorrow.
  9. Shadow 05. I have kicked neighbours out through court and we were not even the landlord (noisy english ones). If they are in your backyard you start the integration process. My English neighbours did not care and are gone now. Why can I dispose of these tenants while I am not even the landlord while landlords on this forum are saying they are helpless without power incapable of refusing criminals or huge oversized fly tipping foreign families as tenants. Most of these eastern Europeans are not yet integrated. How BLIND do you have to be to see when they are all over the place everything is becoming out of balance, noisy garbage, interference. Who, which landlords are letting more of these people in without proper contracts to limit how many people live in the house? Which landlords continue the process of renting to these type of people? Then blame council and laws for the bad habits of eastern Europeans. On my grounds my eyes are open. If the wrong tenants move in I blame the landlord not the tenants. If I get 10 people tipping garbage living like rats next door I blame the LANDLORD for letting them in. A license is needed to stop landlords from taking responsibility of which tenants and under what conditions they accept them. Many landlords are good here and eastern Europeans are only not yet integrated.
  10. You are calling yourself the last warrior, yet it sounds like you are giving up on the situation. When 10 people live in the same house pretending to be visitors something can be done a lot faster certainly with a bit of health and safety creativity to get that number down to a more sensible number of inhabitants. Better contracts are more useful than hopeless words of giving up and talking like there is no way out. The law is to protect tenants from bad landlords but was not made to let bad tenants free right of way. A judge is capable of seeing that difference and acting accordingly. Why do these landlords rent to people that live their life with 8 people in a little page hall house, cause littering, noise. I know landlords that are educated enough to not do that. Why does one landlord know how to do it right and lazy weak landlords just give all these homes to overcrowding littering noisy eastern Europeans. Allow only 5 to 10% easterners in one road and help them integrate. It will take time but allowing eastern Europeans to take over more than 50% of a street is a criminal act on the landlords behalf. The council did not rent these houses to them. The council is asking landlords to be more thorough in doing proper background investigation in their tenants. If I get people knocking on my door that are going to behave badly, litter tipping, overcrowding, nuisance from cars, noisy. I say NO. I am a good landlord and do not want to spoil the area with these problems. Then I lower the rent and people come that will not be a nuisance, not as fast as the eastern Europeans, it takes longer but they are there. It is not as easy to find good tenants but it can be done with a bit more effort. £750 for 5 years=£12.5 per month. It will reduce values and remind people that a rental home is something to be treated with respect and being lazy with finding tenants that do not cause problems is something to now pay the price for renting a massive area to eastern Europe. I am not against eastern Europe, I just donot mix 50% salt or pepper in my meal. There are landlords that are intelligent enough to act accordingly when they see problems arise. Why do some others, like warrior, give up, stop trying, lose all their hopes and just blame the law for their helplessness. Then mention all the illegal things these tenants are doing while reasoning he is powerless to stop any further increase to renting to noisy littering overcrowds. Saying that the right people are not coming anymore because of what has happened and the only way out is to go further and further more into renting to the infection. If it is difficult to find the right people, that may be true, but letting more infections in is going to make page hall die. Sorry warrior, there is a way out but it takes a little more work, effort willingness to make that happen.
  11. Proof is only needed when you are in doubt of your belief. Because you are so uncertain you look for proof all over and suddenly think you have found god to convince yourself your unstable beliefs have been softened by a beautiful sun. Certainty and understanding come when you wake up and stop looking for reasons and explanations to keep your unstable beliefs in place. Beautiful divine picture.
  12. I am sorry to hear you are having all these problems after 8 years. It is not your landlords doing that has created the situation but your neighbours landlords weaknesses, incapacity to keep only 4 people in the house. If you keep non integrated tenants, extra effort is needed to keep them under control or else that landlord should have gotten integrated tenants. Now 10 people are living next to you driving you crazy. Your neighbours landlord is blaming the laws and other excuses. He is not trying hard enough to make it clear only 2 adults and 2 children are allowed to live there. If he threw them out and it would go to court a judge most likely will justify that landlords actions under the circumstances. Humans are not animals to live with 10 people in a page hall house. Most landlords in page hall are scared and pray to god in hope god will solve their problems but that only makes matters worse. Your landlord is not to blame for the license. It is not a penalty, not a fine, it is admin cost for the program, maybe go 50/50 on the cost, it is £12.50 per month. £6 for you £6.5 for him. This license is to make certain landlords are "fit and proper" to do that job. Your landlord already is fit and proper, your neighbour is not. If I would rent that house and 10 people live in it I discuss this with them, give them a week and then a last warning. Then I throw them all out and be more than happy to discuss it with a judge if it gets there. Judges are there to make the world a better place not for 10 people to live in same house. The law may say this or that but a judge is capable and allowed to use common sense. Lyndyloo my situation is not as bad as yours. A lot of landlords in page hall (with exceptions that are not the problem here) blame their problems on others and pray to heaven to make things better. £12.50 per month license admin to rent a house is not unreasonable when there are many landlords that are not capable of doing that job properly and care more about money than the references of the tenants.
  13. Paks4. You just gone fast asleep, snoring. Sleeping and renting properties is not save and need a license to wake you up again. Open your eyes or else you can get out of the boat by selling your house if you don't know how to rent it responsibly. If you do rent it responsibly there is no problem. You just do it with a license now, what is the problem? Blaming it on others is so childish and no excuse to not lower your prices to attract better tenants. That way a better area can be created. If you can see and recognise the difference between people's intentions, there are plenty of good people that will come for a better price. All this talk like it is never gonna get better or will only get worse is not true. There are a lot of good tenants that will recover and stabilise the area for a better price. Your greed stops that development from happen. To develop a better area you need to not scare and price the right people away by getting Slovaks as soon as possible that scare other better tenants away to be replaced by more eastern Europeans that make it even more worse. A balance needs to stay and if you need to lower prices for English people to come back to regain a balance you have to do that to repair the mistakes. Blaming it on council or laws is childish, they did not say yes to non integrated foreigners overpopulating your properties. You did that. That is why you need a license, to learn how to do a better job properly. The council or law does not have to clean the mess when you get 10 tenants throwing garbage on the street. Why do I know people that are good landlords and they are not the ones that are complaining about the license.
  14. That sign you refer to has a note under it that says "for 3 miles" Not that it matters. I would not walk there even if I was paid for it and legally.
  15. The end result is if you cannot find tenants or afford to keep the house, then admit you are not a capable landlord and don't have the capacity. You sell the house to someone who does. Renting to (wrong) Slovaks* to get out of it easily makes matters even worse and is not an acceptable solution. Either sell or wait two or three months, I know people there that go through qualified agencies, take up to four months, remove the for rent sign because the Slovaks ring and knock on the door every hour. When these better tenants come after a while there are no problems. If all the greedy landlord had reduced the rent to get better tenants instead of getting more from Slovaks this licensing plan would not have been needed. * I have heard from friends that major criminals with serious antisocial history have gotten rental properties there in a 10 minute chat with the owner. That owner needs a license. ---------- Post added 02-08-2013 at 09:14 ---------- All that talk about stronger laws here? Why do you need stronger laws when you have the strength to adjust rent prices so better tenants come. Instead of getting as much as possible from foreigners forcing them to live 10 people in a house. The strength is in lowering the rent to get better tenants, if you cannot do that you are not a qualified landlord but a selfish incapable idiot that needs a license. Strength and courage are your own qualities. The law or government are not going to give them to you when you are making big mistakes.
  16. You are not a warrior. Your words sound like those of a sheep. I know landlords that will not take fake references, they check them. They will not let tenants in that will overcrowd the property. You make it sound it is everybody's else fault because you are in too big a hurry to get your money quick and cannot wait more patiently for better people to come. You need a license because you don't know how to select better tenants more patiently and check their background properly. That is not the councils fault. The council does not say yes to the wrong tenants. A lazy landlord tries again to use anti social laws too clean up his garbage. These laws are not to do the landlords job in getting rid of wrong tenants when the landlord let them in freely themselves in the first place. Good landlords like good drivers will have a license as well but they will benefit from the program.
  17. If someone cannot afford to have their house empty when that happens for a few months they are not qualified landlords. This money you loose by waiting for better tenants are beneficial in the long run when good tenants stay longer and are happy. I can tell the difference between a potential tenant that has intentions to start an eastern European lifestyle or a English one. Can you specify a drunkard if they can drive???? You don't give them the key! These excuses of saying I told them how many is as stupid as giving a drunkard the key. The license is needed because these 4 landlords you talk about rent to the wrong people and don't take responsibility. Get upset when they loose one weeks rent. A house is not a baby and if you don't have the money to maintain it empty or wait for appropriate tenants you are better of giving it to the RSPCA than rent it to criminals. ---------- Post added 01-08-2013 at 08:49 ---------- Lots of eastern European people are moving into other western European countries. A lot of them have been in jail, committed crimes and have a really bad financial record. My mother who is one of the most non judgmental and one of the last people to make such an intense statement says. Wow wherever these eastern Europeans settle crime and social problems double, unbelievable how that happens. I could not believe she said that I have never seen her take such a stand before.
  18. There are landlords that will take any non English speaking jobless people that look and behave like they have just spent 10 years in jail. These landlords only care about one thing, am I going to get my money now as soon as possible? Or are they decent landlords that check the tenants criminal background and have a conversation about how many people can live there and show concern towards neighbours and community. When these criminals are there the landlords says. Hey I am not a criminal, I only rented this house to them. When told they have take responsibility on the type of people they rent to these landlords cry cry cry. My money is more important than whom I rent to, who cares if they have a criminal record. I am a good man just renting my house to criminals. There are also landlords that take 3 months to get good tenants. Creating a good environment for the community.
  19. Yes there is a lot more to it. One of the things to it is that many people are jealous and their ego is hurt and insulted for the fact that their city does not have an airport. They get angry and upset that they have one but we don't have one. The amount of people traveling once or twice a year wanting an airport in Sheffield because they are angry and jealous while going somewhere else to get their flight are enormous. These people can only see their own feelings and want to solve it by getting their own airport to fight back so they donot have to drive a little or take a train. When you get an airport to solve these ugly feelings you need therapy, more than an airport.
  20. Just seen 7 bicycles outside in 3 hours. 3 were good properly equipped bicycles. The others had not even splashguards, one of those was driven by a kid with shirt tie and good pants. You would not see a german cycle with good clothes without some protection. Sheffield is great to cycle but not the cycle city centre of the universe flying over the rest of the world. It is far below it. Very very far below it. Not straight enough.
  21. BSMan You are one of the few people that is on top of it. Unforfunately there are many people here, the majority, that think an airport is the same as a new M Donald in town. Any person thinking they should have a PROPER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT in Sheffield because they are too lazy to travel 60 minutes while these same people don't complain when they wait 30 minutes to get a ticket and then 25 minutes of advertising and trailers before a movie. Then compete with other PROPER AIRPORTS available nearby. You can put 20 Asian shops next to each other in Sheffield and they will survive. Airports don't work like that. When you put too many too close together something is going to go wrong at the taxpayers expense. Sheffield is a lovely place. A big village. Nothing special with nothing to brag about. Sheffield is perfect the way it is, it is not London or new York. Sheffield is beautiful and clean from all the problems that a big airport attracts. That idea of a superfast railway from the south to the north is a joke but better than an Sheffield airport.
  22. Even in Toronto in the nineties more people were cycling then I have ever seen cycling in Sheffield. And they also cycle in the winter. When a dog starts making comments on what is the best way to fly. Then a bird makes a comment that dogs don't fly, they walk and bark. So how can the dog know what he is barking about? First learn how to fly. Get hundreds of people to cycle to and from town everyday, no matter what the weather is. Learn the accessories and tricks of a society where you always see cyclist in the centre no matter what way you look you always see one somewhere. Then use that experience to make sense full comments. Otherwise keep on barking while you don't even know what you are barking about.
  23. I fully agree. Why do people want elevated cycle paths when Sheffield is not suitable for cycling. And your statements are even more proof you only know a little about cycling and its accessories. There are more bicycles without mud/splash guards in Sheffield than I have seen in any other city where people cycle often. Big comments about bags on handlebars, while they are blind and ignorant to the capacity of cyclebag. Again Sheffield people talk like and as if they are the most educated knowledgeable on cycling in the whole world and they have no experience about cycling whatsoever, they don't even know how to use a splashguard or cyclebags. Sheffield has no knowledge and no experience with a decent cycling community. Many comments here come from dreams, ignorance and sleepy fantasy. First start cycling, learn what you are talking about, get some experience, then start talking with experience instead of making silly comments about something Sheffield people know very little about.
  24. Do you think when your flights from London are not available in Manchester, Bradfield, Midlands. Do you believe those flights are going to come to Sheffield?? Ding dong, wake up. Are you sleeping? That is what I mean Sheffield citizens have no knowledge, understanding of international airtravel. Sheffield does not even have an IKEA. You really think all those London flights are going to come to a place that does not even have an IKEA? Go back to sleep! Keep on dreaming Or wake up. An international airport is not the same as a chippy or local pub.
  25. That is right The council is being responsible by taking charge and fining, removoving capacity to be a landlord from selfish greedy bad landlords and letting good landlords continue. The landlords now cannot get away with it any longer when all they care about is the money. While ruining other peoples lives. The landlords in my neighbourhood are already responsible so it is obvious a landlord has the capacity to do a good job. The tenants come from another country/culture. They will not understand what is going on. You can only make someone responsible when they have understanding and knowledge of what and how they need to be responsible. If a roma gypsie family does not know these things you cannot blame them they are ignorant. The landlord needs to make certain the people on his property are trained and educated on appropriate behaviour and manors. Otherwise that landlord has allowed out of control animals just because he could not wait four more weeks for normal communal tenants. I know landlords that take twice as long to get tenants but say no to eastern Europe while they lose two months rent to get proper tenants.
