vin rigby replied to SheShe's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Good thinking - I usually have finished up in the 'Dog and Partridge' in Trippet Lane when I worked in Exchange St. -

It's sad to read of people persecuted because they favoured rt or lft hands, was particularly surprised to find that girls were also subjected to similar treatment that I was subjected to. Hopefully this is another instance that will be relegated to historical records.

Hey Tiffy, looks like this is a very old posting you've answered! Vin

Which is the steepest road in Sheffield?
vin rigby replied to Lickszz's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Some interesting names cropped up in this post - maybe of no further interest now but Kent Road Heeley - yes very steep!- used to know a guy who lived there called Gavin who was known as the 'squire of Heeley' - kept horses and rode them in the area, also had some wonderful horse drawn coaches that he bought from Ireland and refurbished - he used to lecture at SHU. There is a very steep hill that runs up to Tofts Lane off Rivelin Valley road - don't know the name but it is very short - probably only 100 yds long and has a pub at the top. The 'J' mentioned earlier could be 'Jenkin' Rd but not exceptionally steep. Twentywell Lane brings back many memories - especially the Casle Inn - spent many happy hours there and sold many framed photographs which Bill allowed me to hang there. Cobnar Rd at Woodseats is no longer accessible - unless you live there I believe but is very steep. Vin -
remember being told by late father-in-law Harry Fox that the gangs used to spend a lot of time at 'Sky Edge' Wybourn, where there used to be a dog track.

Thanks to all for your informative postings. I would like to believe that in the near future positive medical benefits can be researched and found for CIDP (chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy) and similar sufferers. The information on 'synthetic cannabinoids' is of interest and I will pass this on.
-
CIDP is not yet prescribable, my friend has spoken to her GP and he confirmed this some time ago. I believe it is legally prescribable for MS sufferers.
-
...but if cannabis is medically beneficial then it should be perscribed by a doctor and not obtained illegally.... This is exactly the point I was making. So you agree that there should be some form of legalisation that would allow it to be medically prescribed if proven to be benificial? Smoking the stuff for pleasure I think is insane.

'Regular cannabis use causes mental illness. I'm dead against the legalisation of it' What do you base your assumptions on? what effect does 24 hours of pain have on mental health? do you know anyone who suffers with CIDP? have you the slightest idea what CIDP is? are you a regular cannabis user? what are you learning at SHU? _________________

A friend suffers with CIDP which is a muscle wasting condition and causes much pain to many joints. Prescribed pain killers are effective but a side effect of these causes loss of breath after walking short distances and lack of energy. Some time ago she came across the above substance and willing to try anything that might help she included some in a pancake mix. The effect was amazing, she had complete pain relief for 4 days but a side effect was a very high pounding heart rate. She has not used it since but I am sure that if it was prescribed correctly and considered in conjunction with medication already being taken for high blood pressure it would give safe relief from pain at a reasonable cost rather than lining the pockets of the illegal producers and dealers causing cost on the street at around 20GBP per gram.
