  1. A service book full of dealer stamps just proves that the owner has paid well over the odds for work done to the car. I understand that not everyone is capable of working on their own cars, but knowing where to go for quality work and parts does have its benefits. I own a VW Vento, and its one of the cheapest cars ive owned for parts (non dealer). £36 for a timing belt kit, £3 for an oil filter, £8 for oil. I fitted them all myself, plus many other parts, which is a massive money saver. I know people go to main dealers for a reason, but is part of that reason because they dont know where to get a good deal on parts and labour? Eurocar parts, GSF, Sheffield Imported Motor factors and FPS are a few of the many motor factors that can supply new quality parts for all cars under the sun. Try em, and you might save a penny or two!
  2. I work for a company that does testing for the steel industry, im in the mechanical testing and metallurgy department, and we also do NDT as well. There are no where near as many steel processing plants as there used to be. As for steel production, Sheffield didn't make as much as people think, Sheffield processed it into components, the steel was made in Rotherham and Scunthorpe and other places aroung Britain, then sent to Sheffield.
  3. The transport is a worry, i have a car but my girlfriend will be on the train when i cant drive her. The main reason i have bought up there is the amount of house im getting for my money, the same in sheffield is twice the price. I cant guarantee that the market is going to stay stable but as home owners, dont we all take that risk? I see it as an investment, rather than a debt. As for the area, i thinks its the same as everywhere, good and bad points and its just something we'll have to live with! Im looking forward to it, never lived away from my parents for longer than two weeks so ill learn a lot of things!
  4. I went last week. It was ok, got the things i was after, the weather was ok and it wasn't to busy. Far to many burger vans though!!
  5. Thanks. I have noticed there are a few groups of kids hanging about, but nothing that id worry about. Ive spoken to a few of the locals and they seem to like the place. Suppose ill find out when i get in there!!
  6. Wearing a seatbelt is compulsory, so i guess thats why they fined her, as she was doing something wrong where as the copper didn't see the lads doing anything wrong he did nothing. IMHO the police in this city are only out to sort the quick to sort out "crimes" such as not wearing a seatbelt or throwing a cheesy wotsit out of the window, they cannot be bothered to do all the paperwork involved with a real crime such as paedophilia and other very serious crimes. This is just my opinion so dont take offence, but i really dont think police do their jobs correctly. Rant over.
  7. Im moving up there in June, from my parents house in Redmires. I know its not strictly Sheffield but is anyone on here living there or moving there, and what is the area like? Its a new development of old pit houses, and they have made a real good job. I think a similar place in sheffield would have been a lot more expensive.
  8. My dad saw the Kelham engine roll steel for the last time in anger at English steel back in the 60's. They dont run it anywhere near its full potential at Kelham as the foundations wont stand it!! If i remeber correctly, its was the fastst reversing steam engine in the world at the time. Useless fact there!
  9. Mine had a exhaust fume smell inside the car, it was from a hole in the boot floor (the car is 14 years old), welded it up and problem solved. It could be labels burning off, as willman says, or if you have had the oil changed, or an oil leak and its on the exhaust it will be burning off. Another thing could be the clutch, if you ride it then it will cause a horrible smell, it will do the same if there is a problem with the clutch mechanism, if its sticking etc?
  10. There was a burst just off Duke street this morning, looks like a main went as there was a big bump in the road and workmen stood around looking at it!
  11. I bought a tent from decathlon at the weekend, £30, its a great tent. I saw the netto ones too, they are 'tunnel' type tents, so cant see much room to move about in them!! Still cheap though! As for places to go, i live near the redmires dams so i go up there every once in a while.
