  1. We're going to Eurodisney for the weekend on Friday and have never been before. I've heard the food etc is horrendously overpriced but we also need to know ifthere is anything edible for vegetarians? Anyone been recently got any tips for cheaper food/veggie options over there?
  2. We have used a local bloke who has done a three-wall mural in our daughter's bedroom - you can see pictures on his website http://www.pretty-unique.co.uk There are also photos on there of murals of a 50s/60s style diner he has done. Could always ask for a quote?

  5. In October my husband's renewal passport and my daughter's first passport both only took 9 days to come through from when we posted them - but there's no guarantee. Your only definate chance is to ring passport office in Liverpool and book an appointment for asap after you can afford to buy it - but book the appointment now or sod's law they will be too busy to see you.......
  6. The other thing you could perhaps do is phone the health visitor - similarly to the nursery she/he wouldn't necessarily be able to discuss things with you, but will know your daughter's history (which perhaps nursery don't?) as well as your grand-daughter's needs. The health visitor has a responsibility to the child until they start school so if she/he feels there is a risk to your grand-daughter, or that the situation is not being monitored now due to you not being able to see your grand-daughter, she/he may decide to do a visit to the house/speak to the nursery to ensure everything is well - and she/he will be able to make a referral to social services or any other agency if necessary, and then that would come from her/him in a professional capacity rather than risk alienating your daughter further? I think it is a great idea for your parent's to let the situation calm down and then try to mediate, and I really hope this works. I also admire your commitment to your daughter and your ability to see that whilst things have not been easy, and I'm sure the drugs changed your daughter, you know who she is underneath and have allowed her to move on from her past mistakes in this area. Hopefully, in time, whatever has happened now will also be put in the past, and you can rebuild the loving relationship you have obviously enjoyed with your daughter at some point. Again - good luck and best wishes.
  7. Joanna Lumley stopped outside the cafe near the Crucible to talk to my 2 year old daughter in the summer. Seen Phil Oakey around a few times over last few years.
  8. Would very very strongly recommend ABA ROOFING on 2746533. Carl has roofed three of our houses, and numerous freind's houses - and everyone has been pleased with price and quality of work. Most recently we moved to a large house - Carl's quotes mateched the average of the other three quotes that the people we were buying from got in. The big difference? They all quoted for replacing with the cheapest tiles on the market, but Carl used the cheap ones on the back of the property but recycled ones from the back and front made of Welsh Slate, so that the front of the house kept its 'appearance'. This was far more time consuming but has made a huge difference to the appearance of the house (and in terms of landfill!) - if we had bought new welsh slate, just for the front of the house, the cheapest quote was £7,500!!!! He also re-fixed some huge leaded work we have over our bay windows which none of the other roofers had even considered, and which we thought we would need a different builder for. Really can't recommend him enough - very friendly, family run business (employs his two sons) - will give you a no obligation quote and be honest about when he can do the work - and will turn up then too!
  9. Hi there You could ask for social services to help by just checking your grand-daughter is safe if you think there is a risk from your daughter, or her partner due to their drug-use/lifestyle. Actually, we all have a moral and leagl responsibility to report any concerns about child abuse - which includes risk of harm, so ignore 'getto_sniper' - it is because people don't report things that children continue to be abused. The unfortunate truth however is that there is little social services can do (despite what the papers and media say) unless the child has actually suffered harm (as defined by law), or unless the parent wants some help. At this stage it may be worth asking another family member or friend (your's or your daughter's) if they would mediate - this would largely be what any agency would do anyway, but may not feel as 'offensive' from your daughter's viewpoint. It is also definately worth writing a letter as given time to think your daughter may calm down anyway. If your daugher has fits and has mental health problems, does she have a CPN or social worker herself? If so, you could just let them be aware of the situation as they will then contact children's social services if your daughter needs medical help and is unable to care for her daughter. From what you are saying, children's social services would then contact you as the next-of-kin and as the relatives who are most involved in the child's life (this is a legal requirrement so they will do it). Ultimately though, regardless of your concerns, unless you are saying you think your daughter/her associates/her lifestyle mean that your grand-daughter is at risk of harm (emotionally, physically or developmentally (e.g. due to neglect)) then it is your daughter's decision whether or not you can see your grand-daughter, as she is the only peron with 'parentl responsibility'. Neither the courts nor social services are allowed by law to intervene in her right to make that decision unless the child is at risk. Good luck - I hope you and your daughter can work through this for your grand-daughter's sake.
  10. Thanks for that - though from the feedback I think the electric option is definately a non-starter!
  11. One very fat squirrel who seems to have introduced a lady friend today Grrrrrrr....
  12. I would strongly recommend the Crookes Practice on School Road tel: 0845 120 4201. Best surgery I have ever used (had 17 different addresses in 7 years due to work and studying, (until I settled down 11 years ago) so have used a few!) - always helpful and realistic. I've now moved to the other side of the city (a year ago) and still miss them (have long term health condition)! Even tried to keep 'on their books' - but to no avail......
  13. We had the same experience in a property we let - got three different companies in to look at it. Did find some of the damp course in the walls had failed but problem continued even when we had this re-done. Basically all three companies concluded that it was due to condensation - six adults drying their clothes on radiators/never opening windows/etc. We were advised to ask tenants to use dehumidifiers (which we provided) when they were drying their clothes and to leave the windows slightly ajar (on the 'part opened but locked' bit of the double galzing). We also put extractor fans in kitchen and bathroom - although these rooms did not have the same problem it did help dehumidify atmosphere throughout house as obviously a lot of hot air is created in these rooms. We also bleached the mould off the walls before repainting with a mould resistant paint. We too were reluctant to put in too much ventilation via walls etc because of drafts - which tenants are understandably never keen on!! Although its lots of little jobs to do, it was relatively cheap with no major building work, and problem now seems resolved. PS Only our north facing rooms were affected too - companies said this was because the outside walls were cooler, so difference in temperature between outside and inside was greater - hence more condensation.
  14. We let property and have avoided them because we have friends who as tenants have had horrendous problems with Mike Jolly too. - One friend (professional working person) even had water coming through the living room ceiling and Mike Jolly didn't let the landlord know/arrange to have it sorted for 3 WEEKS!!! Hard to know who was more annoyed - landlord or tenant..... AVOID!
