  1. Had someone on my roof in Walkley trying to nick lead. Wednesday/Thurs 10th/11th Dec pm/am
  2. I bought some glasses a few years ago and the frames cost me £75. I bought some reading glasses with identical frames off Ebay for £6
  3. Yes and No. I went on the ASA site, submitted details and a photograph and noted the bit where they say they don't pass complainants' details on to the advertiser. Got a reply asking for details of the complaint and a photograph, and asking my permission to pass my details on to BT/OpenReach. Whilst I was considering my reply I got an email from BT, Surprise! Surprise! Infinty is now available to my premises. That's from "no plans" to "it's here" in about a week. It's almost if BT had noticed that I was visiting other ISPs' websites and that I'd spoken to Plusnet on the phone.
  4. I'm sure you're right, I suspect the position I outlined is the default one. I can't see Perry Mason taking the case on though!
  5. As said, once it's in the skip it's the skip company's property. Even stuff put in dustbins belongs to the council, or perhaps Veolia these days. Although I once asked a skip lorry driver if I could have some old floorboards he was about to cart away he said "you can take the whole flipping lot as far as I'm concerned." I know skip companies sell scrap on, but I don't think they'd be too bothered about wood and builders bags going, they have to pay to dispose of this sort of stuff. Can the police prosecute unless the skip company wants them to?
  6. Give them a ring first, it's a few years since I had some made. ---------- Post added 16-11-2013 at 12:43 ---------- I take it you're after new number plates to replace the original ones, the number is the same? I think a certificate of entitlement is when you have purchased a personalised number https://www.gov.uk/personalised-vehicle-registration-numbers/overview This is how you get replacement plates https://www.gov.uk/displaying-number-plates/getting-number-plates-made-up
  7. They need proof of identity and address, eg Council Tax bill as well as the log-book. You have to prove who you are and that you're entitled to the plates. Non legal plates are known as "show plates".
  8. It's to the bus company's advantage to allow other people to use a pass if they get re-imbursed from public funds. If I stay at home today the bus company won't get anything from my pass, if I lend it to someone else they will.
  9. As this thread hasn't gone off topic yet How do Northern Rail get reimbursed for bus-pass users? The guard just glances at the pass and doesn't record its use.
  10. Not always - I got on a bus & the driver saw my pass in my hand and issued a ticket without the pass being scanned.
  11. Too late, just did! Openreach were given a bit of pounding on BBC's "Watchdog" the other day. They are still part of the BT group though.
  12. I was going to go with Infinty a while back. BT told me Wadsley exchange was waiting for "a power bus" to be installed, could take a few weeks, maybe a couple of months. Now they tell me "In relation to ordering the BT Infinity; I have called our Infinity Team and they have advised that this service is not yet available in your local area. We can advise you will be upgraded however this can only happen when your cabinet is upgraded by Openreach." That's the cabinet that says "Fibre Broadband is here" on a big label attached to it. Advertising Standards next stop.
  13. Cheers Dave. Just got a call back from Origin - fibre isn't at the box near my home yet, they can give me 4Mb/s for £24pm. Their website says I can get 20 MB/s for £18. I'll have a look at Plusnet.
  14. What's the current position regarding Origin Broadband? I was messed about by Virgin & BT and so am looking for another provider. There's an Origin box 150 yards from me and their website says I can get decent speeds. I was a bit put off by the woman I spoke to, I gave her my phone number 0114...... and she asked whether or nit it was a landline! Are they a fibre to cabinet or fibre to premises provider?
  15. I walked into a shop once, looked round, said "oops wrong shop". I wanted next door - the opticians
  16. I did the same years ago. In the carpark at work in the dark, put the key in the door of my Ford Anglia, door opened, got in, started the engine and noticed there was a "Tell-U-Log" (which I didn't have) on the dashboard and the clutch felt odd. It was someone else's car and I could have stolen it with no effort.
  17. They're installing a new LED lampost on Howard Road, 10 feet away from a new LED lampost they installed a few months ago.
  18. It's more likely to be an Audi TT driver these days, TT is even easier to spell than BMW.
  19. I agree but the law would be on their side (if the noise levels contravened regulations) even if they did move next to an already noisy pub.
  20. I think they licence it to Bing, they both suffer from missing tiles.
  21. My thoughts too, although competition avoids stagnation.
  22. Saw these guys mapping out Walkley in a Google-type vehicle http://here.com/54.64775,0.4628281,6,0,0,normal.day
  23. I just let mine carry on, they had a cat flap and they could please themselves.
