Why should they?Â
Life is hard enough as it is these days. Let people have a dance and blow off some steam.
Â
Someone tell me this is a wind up.

YE/YEDL/NPG (or whatever they're calling themselves this week) have never been keen on simply 'living up' the 5th core, so its not that straightforward.Â
Hmm, sounds very interesting.
-
Wallbuilder could be right. Just because the lights are working, it doesn't mean everything is ok with the cabling. Much of the street lighting in Sheffield is connected to a seperate 5th core switch wire, which means groups of lights are all switched on and off together from a switch point. In order for Amey to use a central monitoring system to control the lights, each light has to have it's own 'live' supply. This could involve quite a bit of excavation and alterations to the cabling network.Â
As you say yourself, that's how most of the street lights are wired, from a local switching timer. I doubt that this is the only area, out of all the others where the new lights have been fitted, which is wired in this way. In any case, it shouldn't really be too big a problem, in order to make the switched live a permanent live I would imagine all that needs to be done is short the local clock switch.

I'm curious have you bothered to ring them and ask what the problems are withthe street lighting installation, you can't say their info is rubbish as you've got nothing to back this up. maybe they've discovered that the electrical cables are in need of replacement which would of course mean any of the resurfacing work would have to be postponed till the cabling had been sorted. So rather than having plant and workforce say waiting they've moved on to other area's where they can do the work as that would seem to make sense.Â
Oh don't talk rubbish, the old lights are working perfectly well.

I've noticed the timescale for my area (Tapton Hill) has changed from ending in August to January. Apparently it says on SCC website pavement resurfacing has been delayed because of difficulties installing the new street lights, which is complete rubbish because they were supposed to do the lights in May and they're now installing them in Highfield which was not supposed to be until September. Instead they've spent over six weeks on my road farting around digging up kerbs there was nothing wrong with and making a complete pigs ear of the pavements and grass verges in the process. To add insult to injury, they sod off at 3pm and do not even appear at weekends. Not right impressed.

Horizon are very good!Â
Totally agree.
-
According to the Councils website the footpaths and street lights in High Green should have been completed by the end of May.Â
The date for the roads on our estate was up to the end of June.
Â
All the works I've noted above are still to be completed.....Where have Amey gone?
Â
Regards
Â
Doom
Â
The roads in our area have had all the kerbs replaced and the grass verges are a mess covered in aggregate so they're impossible to cut without knackering the mower and now it seems they've upped sticks and left.
Â
The area was also supposed to have had new street lights put in over May and June, but not a single one has been done. Last weekend I drove through Highfield and they have started putting new lights there. According to the schedule Highfield was supposed to start getting new lights in September. I hope our area hasn't been put to the back of the queue because they couldn't keep to schedule.

There is one just the other side of Ladybower, on the right as you head towards Glossop. However, there is also one just on the left, before Ladybower, if you are heading towards Sheffield.Â
Haha that's quite good actually.

been going to gym and swim for 2 years and never heard of anything stolen, but i use the male members changing rooms.the turnstiles have been broken for a week now and gate left open all the time nobody asks to see your card and you just walk through, this is very lax security and i always take my valuables in gym with me.am a bit nervous when i go to swim as this means leaving wallet and watch in locker.
Â
Do what I do, you can hand your valuables into reception and they are kept locked away in a secure staff only area free of charge.

It's a good job we're less closed minded than you then, or nobody would have cared enough about your silly opinion on the flag to even reply to you.Â
Which would have been such a shame.
Â
You've expressed your closed mindedness quite clearly anyway, claiming that you're not won't alter that.Â
And you continuing to say I'm closed minded, as you seem to like saying, also won't make it true.
-
I am doing. I think you've got a closed mind and you probably wander around looking for things to be offended about.Â
I couldn't give a toss what you think, especially when you're wrong.
-
I think it is.Â
Think whatever you like.
-
The Sunday Trading Act only applies to retail outlets. Places like swimming baths can do whatever they want.
-
That's the definition of close minded then isn't it?Â
No, it isn't.
-
i dont think he wants knowledge or understanding of other places cos its nowt to do with sheffield innit?Â
No I don't.
-
a little boring..............and small minded?Â
Not really.
-
they are special to us, they are commonwealth countries, infact wales has been a part of the UK for a fair while lolÂ
its called acknowledgment, respect of others
Â
would you rather NO flags are flown, until OUR special days?
dont you think its a little boring, or boring to only fly our flag, i like the fact you can look and see what countries flags on there on any given day, variety
Â
I would rather our flag was flown every day. Wales has nothing to do with Sheffield.
-
sighÂ
cant you read?
Â
THEY DONT
Â
try looking next time theres a special day, another flag will be flown, as has been said OUR flag will be flown on OUR special days, thats not special treatment for the welsh
Â
stop looking for a problem where a problem DOESNT exist
Â
sigh
Â
They shouldn't fly flags that's not special to us.
-
There's actually quite a big population of Welsh immigrants in the city.Â
They've had their own association running for over 100 years (currently headed by the vice-chancellor of Sheffield Uni): http://www.sheffieldcambrians.org/
Â
There's a big population of immigrants from a lot of countries in Sheffield. I don't see why the Welsh should get special treatment.
-
It's not actually a country as far as I'm aware, it's a principality, which is probably what tbtc was getting at.Â
No it isn't, but they'd like you to think it was.
-
Sheffield isn't in wales that's why. I don't know why our flag should always fly by law, but that is the case - look it up.
-
The town hall flew the flag of Wales today even though there's only one flagpole, which meant the union flag was taken down. If there's only one pole then the union flag must stay up anyway by law, but what is the point of flying the flag of another country and not our own? I'd bet you wouldn't find a single England flag in Wales on St George's Day.

I heard it was going to be a burger bar.

The SYP helicopter has been circling overhead for well over an hour, and for ages at 4am this morning (woke me up). I wonder if this is related this case, do the police normally deploy choppers for missing people?

No, didn't think so. Nothing surprises me these days.
