  1. Roads are very rarely closed based on a forecast
  2. Actually I take it back. Just gone to bring it back in only to find it's been emptied. I don't know how I've not heard them.
  3. Just found out my bin won't be emptied today. Bloody useless!
  4. To those who have got stuck driving in this, you have my sympathies......for being so incredibly dim
  5. You could argue it was a bit insensitive to have a photo of the scene with a big Stella Artois advert in the background. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-30568260
  6. Again, I'm well aware of that, and I wasn't criticising the smaller stores. Bit ironic that.
  7. Isnt Rustlings road still closed? Great timing if it is considering more traffic will probably be coming through Broomhill anyway.
  8. I never said they didn't, they open all day because they're not over the floor area limit. This one is over the area limit. It's a stupid law and they should stick two fingers up to it.
  9. I bet the new store will still obey the Sunday trading laws, while the others are open all day
  10. Try fitting a blackout, I don't see why they should fit shields just for people who don't sleep very well. Its astonishing how many people have been and whinged looking at the number of shields installed.
  11. Avoid the Crosspool Tavern, unless you like eating with aggressive customers.
  12. Have you ever heard of alcoholism? Not really something that's easy to 'learn' to control.
  13. It is indeed. Don't worry though, you're not missing much.
  14. They've started this week on the streets around the Hallamshire hospital, all the lanterns on top of the new poles are the old fashioned energy wasting lights. They've put really old lights on the new poles on our road, even though the rest of the area has the LED lights. And because the old ones aren't meant to be left on all day, they have blown out within a fortnight.
  15. Does anyone know how long it takes to sort faulty street lights out. A large section of our road has been pitch black for a month because Amy have decided to fit old fashioned sodium lights on our road instead of LED which aren't controllable and are on all day and as a result have blown the central fuse. About half the street reported it within two days So much for upgrading to LED, they're installing the old sodium lights in areas being upgraded now, which don't switch off and use a lot of current which blows the fuse. How hard can it be to change the fuse, even I could do it, I've got a lot of spare fuse wire.
  16. All ten of them were controlled by the same clock until recently (they all came on at the exact time), but only six were put onto a live, and four left on the clock. I know the clock switch must be overridden at the moment because it also controls the lights on another street which is in a different zone and hasn't got the new lighting yet; they would always come on at the same time as well. Another thing that really gets me with the lights that have been connected to a permanent phase supply, some have two cables and some just the one. I've measured the voltage between all the conductors of those with two cable, and there's 250v between the conductors of one cable but not the two conductors of the other. But there is 250v between neutral of the second and the live of the first. Basically one cable has a live and a neutral, the other just a neutral. There are also two fuses, one for the first cable and the other for the second cable and the output of the first fuse. Why did they need to use two cable with just a neutral on one, when there was already a live and a neutral on the other. I can't think why on earth (pun not intended) they would do that?
  17. What confuses me though is they don't appear to do that with all the lights. Of the ten lights on this street, they dug up the pavement and put new wiring in for six of them. The other four have simply been wired to the same cable as the old columns, which I know from living here are controlled by a clock. However even the clocked supply has been on all day for the past few months. I understand the need for a permanent live for the new control system, but why do this by digging up the pavement to connect to a permanent live supply for some, and simply leave the clocked live supply on all the time for others?
  18. I wondered that. I can see the photocells on top but they presumably haven't even bothered wiring them in series with the bulbs, they're on all day. Nope, I don't buy that for two reasons. Firstly, I emailed Amey over a month ago asking why they had installed the columns a month before that and then just buggered off leaving the pavement dug up all down the street. To their credit they did reply shortly afterwards, they explained they had a delay receiving the new lanterns but they have now arrived (this was 1 August) and work will be completed the following week. As promised they did turn up the week after....and fitted the old sodium lights. I felt like having a word with the workmen asking what they were playing at, but was too busy at the time. Why would they tell me they had the new lights in stock and then come and fit the old style ones shortly afterwards? Secondly, the street light works in this area started in April, 5 months ago. It took them until June to fit the columns on this street due to delays receiving them, but they started digging in April. You're not seriously telling me these lanterns take 5 months to deliver? More likely they only decided to order them recently, even though they have known since April they needed them.
  19. Great, because Amey fitted the old fashioned sodium lights, which aren't controllable, to the new columns on our street, they've been left on all day for the past month and now, half of them have finally blown. So half the street is pitch black again. Would have been a lot easier if they had just fitted the new LED ones instead, now they're going to have to come back again to sort it. Sheer genius
  20. Indeed, funny how it took until today for the trolls to come out on the thread. Must have been in bed unconscious all day yesterday.
  21. Jesus, that really is scraping the barrel.
  22. I don't use noisy equipment on a Sunday because I appreciate people might want to relax in their garden. Similarly I wont do anything before 10am on a Saturday or after 8pm on a weeknight. Unlike some people I do think about others.
