BR was a good idea badly managed. Baby and bathwater. -
It is. It's moving to The Moor.

I'd take some too if you're giving them away. I live at Norton Lees so could pop round to collect easily.

The one in Hallam Square has been vandalised: someone broke one of the clear panels. -
My wife, who is usually a sound sleeper, has had two nights where she has just not been able to sleep, and has also had bad headaches. I wouldn't mention this on here except that several of our friends here in Sheffield have had the same over the past few days too. I know the plastic ski slopes at the old ski village were on fire over the weekend and the stench was all pervasive on Sunday and into Monday where we live. As there was little wind to disperse it, I'm wondering if the combustion products of the burning polypropylene(?) might have been affecting people downwind of the fire. Anyone else had unusual sleeping problems or headaches?

Pollution in Sheffield this weekend
Yog Sothoth replied to manwithaview's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
The ski village slopes were on fire over the weekend. I think they may be made of polypropylene. That would account for the smell. -
I have too many to mention, scissors, saws, garden tools, drills, clamps, vices, planes, rulers, set squares, billhooks, the list is huge. Just thinking of some names I have amongst them:- Tyzack & Son Skelton Spear & Jackson Stanley Footprint Marples Ibbotson Record Wright & Son Moore & Wright Robert Sorby Eclipse Swann Morton Gordon Bedford Bulldog Skinner & Johnson (not sure if they were Sheffield actually) Staniforth I could probably triple that list with a quick skeg round the shed.

I'm still hoping that hallam might buy the old Courts, but I fear it's a bit far away from campus and the current idiot owners want too much for it. Anyone know if they covered over the skylights which got smashed recently? ---------- Post added 20-07-2016 at 10:07 ---------- The old manpower Services building at moorfoot could be made beautiful by turning the stepped terraces into gardens, with plants and small trees. Imagine it in spring, covered in pink flowering cherries...

Were you born in Sheffield
Yog Sothoth replied to CorkerSWFC's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Born in Horsforth, Leeds. Lived most of my life in Pudsey, then moved to Sheffield in 2003. I now regard Sheffield as my home town. -
Not the big hammer at Forgemasters then?

Tobacco and alcohol. Just sayin'...

Try Rails on Chesterfield Road, Meersbrook.

Those students will be Hallam Uni students, but the university has nothing to do with it - it's a purely private development. SHU don't own any student accommodation these days.

There's one at Bike Rehab near The Washington on Wellington Street I think.

How do i get rid of chickweed in veggie patch ?
Yog Sothoth replied to shand1's topic in Allotment & Gardening Group
It's very edible. Used to be sold in markets back in the old days. Tasty and tender as it is, but can be blanched like spinach and used in the same way. -
Man assaulted in tunnel by the Sheaf View 13/06/2016
Yog Sothoth replied to lizzidrip's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
This Fruit Corner Gang are a big problem but as another poster has pointed out, a lot of incidents go unreported. If you get hassled, attacked, whatever, and you think it's them REPORT IT! Even if the police don't respond immediately, it all helps build a case against these mickey mouse gangstaz. The other point is that there must be members of their own families and peer group who know what they are up to, yet do nothing about it. If it was my son, my brother, I'd not hesitate to dob them in, for their own good as much as anything. They are wasting their lives. If they don't end up in jail or dead, they'll end up in a life of petty violence and crime, like the losers they currently are. The police need evidence. videos, positive identifications to link them with crimes. Just being a member of the Fruit Corner Gang is not enough to arrest someone. They need to know which ones hit this bloke. I think the police could do more but I also appreciate there are limits to what they can do, based on the evidence available. Hopefully this guy can identify who attacked him and they can get them in court for assault or ABH. -
Blanket ban on 'Legal highs' enforced today.
Yog Sothoth replied to Starbud's topic in General Discussions
I go mountain biking. Rock climbing. Should they be banned because they carry risks? let people take drugs if they want to. Legalise them all. It's ridiculous that possession of LSD or magic mushrooms could land one in court. We all use drugs for the pleasure their effects provide, and those we use legally, ie alcohol, tobacco, caffeine and sugar, are far worse from a health perpective than many illegal substances. It's a ridiculous situation. -
Seconded The Lughole. The real punk scene in Sheff. Also Audacious Art Experiment. Look them up.

Has anyone had any problems or hassle from a small gang of teenage lads who seem to have made their home in the foot tunnel under the railway behind Dunelm and Furniture Barn at Heeley? It's the tunnel that leads to Skeleton Bridge, the footbridge over the Sheaf, and ultimately leads to Sheaf Bank and the Sheaf View. The reason I ask is because there have been a few instances of verbal abuse and now a bottle being thrown at a cyclist. A lot of people use it as a through-cut, on foot and by bike, especially at rush hour times, so I wondered if this is an isolated thing or if others have had bad experiences too. I've used the tunnel and footbridge for years and never had a problem before.
