  1. I'd generally advise against using website builder style packages, as apart from often being limited to a set number of generic templates, most are tied-in to the company providing it, so if you want to host elsewhere, you have to start from scratch. It's also worth noting that these type of services often do not include the ability to backup and/or restore your site should anything go wrong. If you're still looking, we can provide web design, domains and web hosting, although if our clients want to host a site we've built elsewhere, that's fine too. (no 'release' fees or anything like that). More info: http://smokeyplanet.co.uk/
  2. Hi, I'm hoping there's somebody on here who may be able to offer some advice. My washing machine has fallen out with me, and when i set it to wash, it fills fine, then does nothing leaving me to hold down the start button until it cancels/drains (although this sometimes has no effect so i have to resort to turning of at the mains for a few mins). This seems to happen on various wash programs. - The exception being the spin cycle which does nothing but drains the already empty washer every few mins. The drum was actually turning the other day, although now it's not even doing that. Checked the brushes and they're fine. Thinking possibly the PCB but can't seem to find a manual for this model (few yrs old), and can't really afford to replace the wrong part. Any advice would be much appreciated.
  3. Their website is running slow as hell. I managed to grab the pdf and re-upload for everyone so you don't have to wait for their site to work. Hope you did well. Download Link: http://www.files.co.uk/set/5342a5eb176d1
  4. A massive well done to all the runners who took part in the Half Marathon yesterday, regardless of whether you knew it was cancelled or not. And also a huge hats off to the general public of Sheffield who stepped up and made sure that the runners got their water. The results in pdf format are now available from the http://www.sheffieldmarathon.com/ website although the site is taking forever to respond. I downloaded the results pdf and re-uploaded elsewhere for quicker download access so you don't have to wait days to get it. I hope you're happy with your times:thumbsup: Download link: http://www.files.co.uk/set/5342a5eb176d1
  5. Nice to know it's not just me that gets clients like this. Just jokingly warn them you'll add them to http://clientsfromhell.net/ if they don't follow the agreed content guidelines:hihi:
  6. I'd recommend Earth VPN. - I've used them myself and never had any issues regarding speed, connectivity or customer service. You would just need to connect to one of the US Servers (72 to choose from in 17 different cities) and your IP address would show as US enabling you to watch your vids. - The same goes for brits on holiday, just connect to one of the UK servers to be able to watch iPlayer etc. They currently offer 176 servers in 87 locations, spread across 32 countries on 6 continents...all for $3.99 p/m (approx £2.50) or $39.99 p/a (approx £25). Main Features Include: PPTP, L2TP, SSTP, OpenVPN supported. (SSH/Socks Proxy upgrade available) Windows, Linux, OSX, Android, iPhone/iPad supported Absolutely No Logs kept (Earth are located in the jurisdiction of Northern Cyprus where there is no log retention law.) Unlimited Bandwidth & Speed (see Speedtest feature on the website) P2P & Torrent Supported Servers on each continent. Easy step by step setup guides on the website 7 Day Money Back Guarantee Bypass location restrictions and ISP filtering. There's plenty of info on their site including a comprehensive Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page where you'll find answers to pretty much any questions you may have. And with the 7 day money back guarantee, you can't really go wrong. Earth VPN Website
  7. This is not for those who wish to wallpaper or paint balloons...sorry. This course teaches you how to create some of the balloon decor you see at events/weddings etc. For those who want to expand their services and offer their clients more, whether you're a budding balloon artist / florist or a venue wanting to provide more in-house extra's, there's a NABAS (National Association of Balloon Artists and Suppliers) Level 1 Course happening near Rotherham on the 24th November. Course details can be found here: http://gretnagreencreations.co.uk/balloon_courses.html (The cut-off point for booking is 10th November) __________________
  8. SG Party went bust (again) and is now trading in Mansfield under a different name. They no longer offer training as far as i know. Mary, who provided the NABAS Approved training and Wedding Workshops at SG Party (and I'm guessing who taught you, jayne67) is currently still providing courses in the area. Course details can be found here: http://gretnagreencreations.co.uk/balloon_courses.html There's a NABAS Level 1 course in Rotherham on the 24th November, and you can secure your place via the website in the Shop section You can also sign up for free course updates so you get an email when dates are announced for course(s) you're interested in. The sign-up can be found on the website or via the direct link HERE
  9. I suspect it's a false positive, possibly due to the sheer age of some of the software (Internet Explorer 1 for example). As with anything you download, it's always a good idea to scan for nasties. I scanned the url with a few different tools and have included the results below so you can make your own informed choice. VirusTotal -2 of 38 https://www.virustotal.com/en/url/0e0dec2409143711011473c4a59b6c6e5c0b0c0bee2ff543e3dd2c69661cb8cf/analysis/1381134008/ Comodo Web Inspector (Clean) http://app.webinspector.com/public/reports/17644712 ScanURL (Clean) http://scanurl.net/?u=winworldpc.com#results Google Safe Browsing (Clean) http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=winworldpc.com Sucuri SiteCheck (Blacklisted by Eset though no Malware found) http://sitecheck.sucuri.net/scanner/?scan=http%3A%2F%2Fwinworldpc.com WOT (Web Of Trust) (Excellent) https://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/winworldpc.com Trend Micro (Clean) http://global.sitesafety.trendmicro.com/result.php
  10. Will hopefully record the fun as a video Forgot to add link to the treasure trove if anybody else wants to have a bit of fun wasting the time of scammers. http://winworldpc.com/library_m2.shtml
  11. Things aren't looking too good for Adobe right now... Brad Arkin, Adobe’s chief security officer, announced in a blog post Thursday that a sophisticated cyber attack on the company’s network caused the source code for numerous programs to be illegally accessed by hackers, as well as the personal information of millions of Adobe users. Apart from the stolen personal data of almost 3 million Adobe customers, which is bad enough, if hackers have been able to access Adobe source code, they could theoretically be able to analyze that information and engineer malware that exploits vulnerabilities and compromises the security of several million users, experts fear. “We are not aware of any zero-day exploits targeting any Adobe products,” the software makers responded. “However, as always, we recommend customers run only supported versions of the software, apply all available security updates, and follow the advice in the Acrobat Enterprise Toolkit and the ColdFusion Lockdown Guide.” More info available over at Adobe. http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/customer-alert.html
  12. I have now...Huzzah! Just located a little treasure trove of old programs/ operating systems from Windows 1 +, Macintosh, Amiga etc. (Before anyone complains, I have been informed that there's nothing naughty about downloading any of these, since they officially stopped being supported years ago) Let the scam baiting begin!
  13. There's loads vids on You Tube where folk have had fun wasting their time. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=microsoft+phone+scams&oq=microsoft+phone+sc&gs_l=youtube.3.0.0.7252.19426.0.21242.20.16.1.3.3.0.291.3083.1j9j6.16.0...0.0...1ac.1.11.youtube.iLaY5SuHNn4 My personal favourite is to give them access to a virtual machine running Windows 98, and watch their brains break:+). In an ideal world, I'd like to figure out how to include some form of payload which would infect the scammer's machine, but I suspect: This would be easier said than done This would be seen in the eyes of the law as worse than the activity of the scammer
  14. If you value your privacy, or still believe that the majority of encryption tools protect you from the likes of the NSA/GCHQ, you may want to check out this article: http://www.tomsguide.com/us/most-important-nsa-leak,news-17505.html
  15. Browsing the Web with The Onion Router, or Tor, is supposed to make you anonymous. Many of the encryption algorithms used by this popular Internet anonymizing protocol have likely been cracked by the NSA, says one security expert – and upgrading to the newest versions of Tor software won’t be enough to protect your privacy. 16. The US intelligence agency NSA (and their UK partner GCHQ) has been taking advantage of the smartphone boom. It has developed the ability to hack into iPhones, android devices and even the BlackBerry, previously believed to be particularly secure. 17. You could always try the highly rated Clonezilla Live. Its free to download the .ISO and runs from disc/usb. You can see screenshots HERE so you know what to expect before you download/use.
  18. Thought I'd share this as I can't be the only one who has trouble motivating myself to workout. For those of you who who found the Insanity Workout a little too insane, or prefer a workout that's more fun than grueling, Beachbody UK (responsible for Insanity, Focus T25 etc) are now offering Hip Hop Abs for less than £20. They promise to transform your body (without a single sit-up:)) in 30 days or your money back, so there's nothing to lose. (the freebies they include with the dvd's are yours regardless:)) Full info and details of the freebies below Beachbody UK Hip Hop Abs product page
  19. If you do get a mountain bike, I'd advise either one without front suspension or with suspension that locks as otherwise you'll be working a lot harder riding uphill, and as Tobyjug pointed out, despite wider nobbly tires looking nicer, the extra traction can make you feel like your peddling through treacle. Welcome to Sheffield by the way:)
  20. For me, it was the realisation that if I didn't start moving more and looking after myself, nobody else would...and the longer I left it, the harder it would be
  21. Something like this perhaps? The EASY ONE-STOP place to grab the best Windows freeware (2013) http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/26366-BEST-One-STOP-Free-Windows-Software-2013
  22. Another thing to check out when choosing to buy your domain(s) is the control/features that come with it. I've come accross companies before that don't give you the option to change your DNS settings or set up re-directs, in a bid to force you to buy a hosting package. With some sellers, such as Vistaprint for example, the registrant of the domain will be VistaPrint Technologies Ltd, rather than you...and if you want to transfer away, they'll charge a 'release fee'.
  23. Or cheaper still... http://stores.ebay.co.uk/SAFEKOM/_i.html?_nkw=vga+to+hdmi&submit=Search&_sid=647198087
  24. I know that feeling! Learnt the code-way so still build my sites with notepad++ and firebug. - Just can't seem to get my head around photoshop/dreamweaver. Going back to the original question, online-wise I'd recommend: http://www.codecademy.com http://css-tricks.com/ http://www.w3schools.com/ There are plenty of tutorials on You Tube and the like, although quite a lot are outdated and not up to date with recient web standards and technologies. Book-wise, I highy recommend the Head First series from O'Rielly, especially if you're new to it. Head First Books on Amazon
  25. You generally get more bang for your buck with desktops, and some of the towers aren't too big these days. I've always built my own machines to suit my needs, as I only put the software on that I want, instead of the masses of junk trials that come pre-installed on shop bought machines. (you also get the windows disc too.) Plus destops are sooo much easier to upgrade, especially for folk with adult sized fingers. If you want a custom machine building, or want more info, just drop me a line. gav@smokeyplanet.co.uk
