  1. I dont just look around Foxhill for sold signs. Oddly enough i spend very little time in Foxhill, having a full time job on the other side of Sheffield, a boat elsewhere in the country and family and friends scattered around the country means i can base my predictions on what is really happening among a wide range of markets. My predictions for the market. I think we will have a period of small gains (maybe until May/June of next year) followed by a period of uncertainy following a government reshuffle. During this period i fully expect there to be some minor price falls but nothing like the 30% you predict. The real test will be when the BOE starts to raise the interest rates but i dont expect this to come until well into the second half of next year
  2. The boat loan and the house loan have been kept completely seperate ensuring we have enough equity in our home to allow us to move on should we wish. However house prices in our prefered area to live, where the boat is moored are substantially higher than in Sheffield plus there would be the added petrol costs and travelling time. Its all about weighing up our options. And the boat debt is "deflating" quite nicely thanks to a huge decrease in the FHBR.
  3. Forget it. Put your name down by all means just dont expect to get a property. There are not enough to go around and you need upwards of 10 years waiting time for the properties released on a waiting time basis. Find another alternative.
  4. errrr.......because you work in the construction industry maybe? although you seem to have more and more time on your hands to email these days...... Very little of our work is residential. The construction industry is bigger than that.
  5. We have had it valued twice this year, both times when we have considered selling to move elsewhere in the country. (Shorter drive to the boat) Weighing up the extra petrol to drive to work and the boat over extra costs of moving is proving difficult.
  6. No its determined by what is actually happening. The fact the sales have yet to make it the the LR website doesnt mean they hav not happened. Come on keep up
  7. Well the sold boards are up on almost every property for sael in the area. So lets wait the 3 months or so until they come online and we shall see. However given that the majrity wher eup for between 120k and 100k id say there was a fair chance of getting what we want for it. Think we will stick to what is actually happening rather than reading the newspapers.
  8. I dont need to call you anything. The writing is there for everybody to see. Busted is the only word i can think of right now.
  9. Thus the story thins further. Repossessions have a time scale of 28 days from offer accepted to completion. Banks dont hang around for chains to complete. I know this as we turned down an ideal property on this basis. No chain can complete in 28 days if one link has not even accpeted an offer. Thought you had done your research
  10. It is funny however that your house purchase fell through just as we all expected, however by your reckoning market activity is very low. So in theory the chances of two people wanting the same property are very small. Your stories are starting to wear thin and the cracks are showing.
  11. The point was as you well know (or should do from your so called reasearch and property hunting) house prices in popular areas are still holding their own and the properties are still selling. In some cases very quickly. A work collegue had his house on the market for the whole of a day before he had two offers of over the asking price which was considerably more than he paid 3 years earlier. Not bad when you consider the gloom some of you lot spout out. This is not an isolated case either. Popular areas still hold the premium prices. You must be searching in some poor areas if you think prices are still in freefall. Either that or you are just making up stories. I know which my monies on.
  12. Theres a suprise. You know there is a big difference between forced sales and people that can wait.
  13. You could be waiting a while. As i have said before though the "wait until the market bottoms out" line is one often used by the window shoppers who have no intention of buying.
  14. Our neighbours had theirs done it was around £600 using an approved contractor. You do need to get the councils written permission though. We had a letter from the council stating that our dropped kerb was not done with their permission. However evidence from neighbours and other departments found it to have been constucted in the 60's so the council have recently granted it retrospective permission.
  15. Grenoside, Ecclesfield, Oughtibridge, Wharncliffe Side, All decent areas with green views, nice housing and cheaper than the south of Sheffield
  16. You wont be given priority for a 3 bedroom house. A pregnant lady will at most be offered a 2 bed property. Maybe you should look at some more suitable propeties and that doesnt just mean houses. You may have a better chance of being offered a 2 bed flat prehaps.
  17. Sounds like air in the system. It can be a bugger to get it all out but bear with it and keep having a go. A fully bled system runs more economically and you dont get lots of banging or bubbling.
  18. Thats debatable. I cant see some of the residents of Dore or Whirlow wanting council housing:rolleyes:
  19. Because that is what the majority of the population do with out moaning about it. Grow up and accept that you wont be handed a council property on a plate. The quicker you realise this the better. There are people in more NEED than you who will be given properties based on their priorities. Just get on with life and accept what you have been handed. Just remember there is always someone worse off that you.
  20. To throw a cat among the pigeons. Why should someone be housed by the council just because they WANT a council house? If they are in work and have no urgent priorities they should be able to find suitable accomodation in the private sector. Maybe the council should stop offering to people who WANT a council property and start just offering properties to people who NEED them.
  21. The new schemes that will replace the demolished housing are mixed tenure developments with a mixture of owner occupied, shared ownership and social housing. The idea being to create mixed tenure housing developments and not the social housing estates of the past. In theory it is a good idea. How much council housing should they build? Well that depends on how much money is avaliable and where the shortfall will be found.
