  1. Aren't those composite companys rather than Umbrella company's? I've been looking at this OrangeGenie. Looks to be pretty reputable. I'll give 'em a call and investigate properly.
  2. There's nothing dodgy about it. I'll come under IR35 as I'll be in the same place of work on the same contract everyday. The umbrella company is supposed to deduct all my tax and NIC's........ shouldn't they?
  3. Can any of the daytime forumer's offer any advice?
  4. Apparently I'm in with the royal families of several African Nations. Unfortunatly due to impending coups they're about to be ousted. They've kindly offered to transfer their £millions to my bank account to look after during this difficult period. All I have to do is give it back when they're safely re-located and I can keep the interest. I'm gonna be rich this time next year!...... oh... wait a minute.......
  5. I've been told I can only be paid through either setting up my own Limited Company, or through an Umbrella Company. Doesn't look like I could be self-employed on this contract.
  6. Ok... This barely makes sense to me but I hope someone with experience of this sort of thing can help me out here. So... I'm moving jobs and just secured my first contract through an agency. Now.. the agency is offering to pay me £7.25 / hour through the agency (PAYE), or £8.64 if I go through my own company or umbrella company. I don't want to be messin' about setting up my own company so I'm lookin' at the Umbrella option. With the pay rates detailed above is it worth it? (37.5 hour week). What do the Umbrella companies charge? How easy are the Umbrella Co's to use? Is it gonna involve loads of messing about? I'd also want about 20 days holiday and understand these wouldn't be paid by an Umbrella Co. I wouldn't have any expenses to reclaim tax. Basically all I wanna know is which option; Agency PAYE or Umbrella Company, is gonna fill my wallet more? Cheers:thumbsup: P.S I know this might not be the best place to enquire about this kinda thing but to be honest I'm a bit stumped with it all.
  7. Are you sure you didn't just make that up?
  8. I know a few people work in Wakey at the Fujitsu buildings there. They all say it's a complete hovel and wish they'd never taken a job there.
  9. My compy does that about once every 6 months. All the power lights, cd has power, hd activity, fans run etc... but no display to the monitor. Usually I leave it powered off for an hour or so disconnected from the mains and when I power back up it takes me into BIOS to say my processor hung during the last boot up. I always have to leave it disconnected from the mains tho (or at least switch the psu off at the back) or else it never works.
  10. If there's owt wrong with yours then there's the exact same problem with mine. I'm definitely only paying 11% of anything over £5035
  11. I used tis thing: http://www.digita.com/taxcentral/home/employment/payslipcalculator/default.asp If I put in £100 a week earnings it should come up with £11 NI then right? But it doesn't. If I put in my actual wage it works out as 11% of everything over £97 E.g. if I put in a wage of £197 (£100 over the limit) it calculates NIC of £11.
  12. I think I just calculated that you don't pay anything on the first £97 / week (I'm on a weekly wage) then 11% on the rest after that. Used a tax checker doo-dar from one of those links above and it seems to work out. Edit: Just checked that too Twiglet and it works out the same. Problem solved - cheers guys.
  13. Really? So is there like an allowance the same as for income tax that you don't pay any NI on? Do you know what this amount is or is it the same as my income tax allowance?
  14. Sheffield forum's also free. I'm far too busy at work to be making phone calls. I barely get enough time to trawl these pages as it is! Cheers taxman.
  15. Just a quick question........ Anyone know if my 11% national insurance contribution is taken from my gross salary or from a net salary after income tax has already been deducted? Thanks in Advance,
