  1. I probably wouldn't have bothered with only a few weeks left on the financial year, the overpayment won't be much and you'll get it back in a cheque at some point anyway.
  2. Without seeing the payslip itself it's difficult to answer, after deductions an average NQT starting rate would see you get anywhere from £1,100-£1,500. It all depends on whether you have paid any tax, pension, NI contributions. Maybe you haven't earned enough in this financial year to warrant paying tax this month? Calculate the gross pay x 12 and if the figure is not in the £21,000 - £24,000 bracket then it's probably wrong.
  3. I've not seen anything when I walk my dog through Roe Lane Woods. I'll keep doing it though, he'll have to have some bottle to tackle 19stone man and 6 stone dog!
  4. What night do the mid-week side tend to play? Also be informative to know what level players you're after
  5. By enjoying it you must be assuming that I am a Labour supporter. This is incorrect. Some stats from 2006ish would surely be more relevant, however? Seeing as this government are still blaming the previous government for various problems, 2001 after a 1997 election win for Labour would still mean they were clearing up a 'Tory mess, by the 'Tories own standards, surely?
  6. It's going to be the same all day - as yesterday really - blizzards in short, sharp bursts. The real danger is at night when it is colder and can pose a longer threat to traffic and pedestrians. Anyone been over the Pennines today?
  7. I've just got in from playing 90-minutes of Football in Stannington and it was hailing and sleeting there. There's a front due to hit in an hour or two that will definitely produce snow over the peaks and higher parts of West Sheffield, will probably be rain at lower levels but I'll keep an eye out and let you know if that changes!
  8. Normal business is being resumed! There is a chance of snow for some of us on Sunday afternoon/evening. I very much doubt it will snow at low levels but as last week it probably won't be a day for driving over the Snake Pass, or sunbathing in Ringinglow..
  9. It was within the past fortnight and I had a suspected Aneurysm. ---------- Post added 27-02-2015 at 17:42 ---------- You think the great strain on the NHS is from flu jabs and not a slashing of budgets for other services, care in communities, mental health services, benefit changes leading to poorer lifestyles, etc?
  10. I'm saying I had to lie on a bed in a corridor half naked surrounded by other very ill people and tens of passers by per hour before being shunted about to wherever they could get me a bed, without a pillow! I also went 24 hours without eating until I approached a very busy nurse (twice) to ask whether I was going to be allowed to eat. The NHS is NOT functioning normally. The staff however, were friendly and wonderful and tried to help wherever they could. Is that clear enough? The NHS is being run into the ground ON PURPOSE by the government in order to make privatisation easier. Who stands to benefit from this?
  11. As I alluded to in the winter megathread, I was taken ill on Sunday and went from A&E Blue Bay to a corridor for a long time, then Clinical Decisions Unit, Medical Assessment Unit and then finally a stint in Firth 1. The nurses everywhere were lovely (but obviously overrun in CDU) but the ones on Firth really helped me out, took the time to speak to me, give me practical solutions and allay my fears when I needed it. The NHS is definitely being starved by the 'Tories - I didn't even get a pillow on my bed because there weren't any!!! But I made do with a rolled up blanket and got on with it, can't thank the nurses enough. Radical action is needed to save the NHS, though. It is being privatised and run down. We need to see it not as a money making entity, but as a 100% service entity - and if we need to pay more for that, then let's do it. But none of the mainstream political parties can be trusted with it.
  12. I am not surprised since when I think about it, I know of 3 people that I either went to school with or were relatives of my best friend who have been murdered in Sheffield in the past 10 years. That's a lot really when you think about it, abnormally high. I certainly wouldn't like to think that trend of personally knowing 3 people who get murdered in violent crimes every 10 years will continue for the rest of my life.
  13. Thank you again all, truly been touched the past few days, shows the best side of this forum. I've never met any of you and I had offers of bringing me bits to the hospital, well wishes and the like, it has put a smile on my face!
  14. Pleased to be able to say I'm been discharged after all tests showed nothing too naughty, just rest and go straight back if anything else like that happens. I'm going to go to bed and listen to the rain bouncing off the window tonight, no snow but might be a few bins settling their contents all over the road! The Twitter account is something to think about, but probably a bit late now, maybe next winter!
  15. Finally got on a ward and ended up with my own personal room! Can't see any snow out if my window, though! Cheers for the well wishes everyone, initial tests encouraging, hoping to be out asap really, depends on whether the consultant feels a lumbar puncture is necessary tomorrow. Goodnight all, safe journeys tomorrow!
  16. I'd love to be able to have a peek at the radar and see the latest but I was admitted to hospital earlier. They are looking for a suspected bleed on the brain but I reckon it was just a migrane, give me a pizza and some Lucozade and I'll be fine! Don't ever get poorly in winter when the Tories are in - I'm on a corridor surrounded by other people waiting for beds on wards..
  17. Thank you very much to you all, your words are all so very kind! It is correct what people are suggesting, I have an easier job than the Met Office as I only have to consider the microclimate for Sheffield and it's immediate surrounding areas. I have got used to how the weather acts when it hits the hills etc, what pressure and temps are generally needed to produce snow here. I'm no trained meteorologist so I rely on news outlets to tell me what's on the horizon a week in advance etc, I really come into my own when I'm sat watching cloud radars, pressure gauges and thermometer readings on fronts that are within 12 hours of us. Be interesting to see what does transpire tomorrow, as ever I'll be here and glued to the radar as usual
  18. I've had a look at the latest pressure charts and what is occurring is basically ice/frost over Saturday night into Sunday morning (it will be VERY cold) and likely anyone driving will need to spend 5-10 minutes de-frosting your car in the morning before setting off. Behind this cold air mass is a front of rain that will turn to snow as it gets over higher ground but I generally like to see the pressure at 980mb for snow to fall in all areas of Sheffield and it will be a touch above 990mb so I'd expect snow to cause hazardous driving conditions over the West of Sheffield in the higher ground but I don't think it will be too bad in the city center or heading out East. This will fall on Sunday afternoon/evening but the temperatures with the cloud cover don't lend themselves to the snow freezing and sticking around for days. There is a front directly behind this which could well provide more intermittent snow over Monday and Tuesday but again I don't anticipate it being like Boxing day was at all. If the pressure was to fall quick enough to get down to 980mb we'd be halfway to a drop that is known as a weather bomb, which is obviously very significant and rare, so it is unlikely. Still, it might make things look pretty for a short while. Wouldn't try driving over the Snake Pass before anyone asks!
  19. Suggestions on twitter this incident could be Chinese people celebrating their new year in, not the usual lot. If I can hear it up here and you can hear it in Page Hall, I guarantee some people convalescing in Northern General are being kept awake!
  20. I've seen it mentioned before, but can anyone else hear these display fireworks going off near Burngreave? We're talking half an hour now and it is nearly midnight. Some people think it's a sign that the drugs have arrived and others have speculated that they come from the bottom of Rutland Rd area and are associated with the celebrations from Asian weddings. This isn't a random occurrence, this happens relatively frequently. I can't make a complaint as I don't know where they are coming from but this is not even remotely funny. At the moment between my job and running a football club I am doing 12 hour days and I need some kip, but my dog is going crackers as they are frightening him and there's no way I'll het to sleep until I've managed to settle him down. Can anyone definitively tell me where they come from? We need to sort this out and stop it once and for all. Midnight on random weekdays is unacceptable and anti-social! ---------- Post added 20-02-2015 at 00:06 ---------- Oh and add to that the sound of the loud engines on the cars that regularly race each other in the early hours up and down Barnsley Road and we're just having a wonderful party here in Pitsmoor/Burngreave/Firshill.
  21. If you can find anyone who can look at a pressure system whilst it's over Greenland and predict what it will be like when it get's to the UK then please direct them to the Met Office, BBC etc etc. Of course a week out we are talking about "chances" and "potential" Maybe next time I'll not say anything until the night before and give nobody any notice that it could happen, just for you? As it happens, it is a bit slower moving than expected and any snow we get probably won't hit until Saturday/Sunday now. The pressure has dropped slightly but hasn't gone through the floor so at this point it looks like we'll have snow falling but nothing to write home about. We'll know more tomorrow night when the data runs are done and we can see how the pressure is behaving, but at this point I wouldn't advise panic buying any milk or bread.
  22. ***POTENTIAL SNOW ALERT*** There is a risk of snow at the end of this week. Basically the air is going to start coming in via a low pressure system from the NW. Clearly in February any air coming from Greenland is going to be very cold, but what is interesting is that the pressure keeps dropping and the forecast keeps getting downgraded every 12 hours. At the moment it looks like we will definitely see snow on Friday/Saturday over the high ground in Scotland, but if the pressure in this system continues to plummet towards 970-980mb then there is increasing chance of us seeing snow down here. I'll keep an eye on it and there is a chance of it levelling out and us not seeing any snow at all, but there's an outside chance of a covering over the weekend. Interesting week ahead!
  23. Been a bit quiet as it has been very settled over the past few days. There is a rainy front coming over that will bring with it some windy weather which isn't ideal as my garden fence is literally hanging on by a thread. It's definitely going to be over before we get to the summer. Changeable weather is due after that but I doubt that we'll see anymore snow, more rain and wind leading to structural damage or flooding. It can of course snow buckets right up until the end of April if the conditions fancy it, but I don't personally see us getting it now. Time to start sorting the garden!
  24. Update is that there is no update! Dusting of snow later, almost certainly nothing to grind everything to a halt. We've got away lightly on this occasion..
  25. Just been out with the dog and thought it was snowing very lightly, was considering updating the snow thread before I realised there was a strong burning smell hanging in the air and it was actually ash falling. Can't see where but I live close to Ski Village, could that be on fire again?
