  1. Yes that's definitely correct! The hardest thing is attending your first lesson
  2. 830pm tonight. Just turn up and say hello!!! I'm the slightly tanned guy with the shiny bald head The bearded crusader is taking the class. He's got the patience of a saint I swear
  3. Great stuff I popped in to drop something off for one of the guys. The guy who taught you is the " Bearded Crusader" Andrew Campsill. He's a 2nd degree Black belt and the ISKA northern Area champion in the 10 stone division . When I first started teaching him , he was 14 stone ( NOT of muscle either lol) , unfit and with very little fighting instinct. He is a true inspiration as he stuck at it and look at him now!!! That's just an example of the AFK training system at work. Hope to see you soon
  4. AFK kickboxers did very well in 2014. We only had 2 losses in the whole year. We had Lewis Miles Berry losing on a close points decision to a slightly heavier opponent. Being teenagers it's hard to tell when they'll get a growth spurt. Unfortunately his opponent had put on a couple of Kg during his growth spurt. The other loss was in the finals of the official K-1 WORLD Championships Ahmad Bilal lost narrowly to a very good Fighter and a worthy WORKD CHAMPION from Portugal. Ahmad Bilal was officially voted in " Fighter of the year 2014" He has also won 2 of his fights by 1st round KO. Ahmad normally fights at 61kg but has had to accept matches at 63.5kg just to get fights!!! ISKA northern area champion Andrew Campsill who also teaches at AFK won his PRO debut in the first round damaging his opponents ribs and right arm in the process . 2 girls from AFK kickboxing also had a go at the GP4C ( Girlpower4Charity) Boxing bouts. We look forward to more success in 2014 from our fighters and hope to see you all on the circuit. Anyone interested in join in our successful team, Please get in touch on 07775914155

  16. Hi Everyone , I thought id just go through and overview of 2013 and Sheffield's centrally based kickboxing clubs activity log through the year. We started the season in February with AFK's quiet man Andy Campsill being crowned the ISKA Light Welterweight Northern Area champion where he stopped his opponent with a barrage of knees. The fight was broadcasted on SKY TV. AFK's Ahmad Bilal had a successful year having 2 fights with Spirit Dojo's Irtaza Haider with one win a piece He also fought on Cage Fury's Barnsley show and got himself a win in the cage. He also entered the WKA British Championships with Ahmad to get to the finals only losing out to a much more experienced Professional Thaiboxer. He finished the year off with a points victory in November. In the same tournament , 17 year old Nakash Hamid became the WKA -18's Heavyweight champion stopping his opponent with a knee in the finals. AFK's "Beast from the middle east" Khalid Al Johani became the ISKA Light middleweight champion under K-1 rules. during his title fight he landed some awesome left switch-knees to the head and a really blinder of a shin kick to the back of his opponents head. 39 year old DR Andrew Carr notched himself another win against a much younger opponent . This is his 2nd fight and 2nd win ever since coming over to AFK from his previous gym. In September , AFK got a clean sweep of 5 victories out of 5 fights. Also , one gym not to be forgotten , the Thanapron Muay Thai camp. Alex Mcquillan from Thanapron muay thai camp won the ISKA English Muay Thai title. Also welcome back to my friend Craig from Kapap gym who is now back in the country and his fighter Ed Bishop was absolutely amazing on his debut MMA contest. We await the return of Craigs lads with a vengeance. AFK Kickboxing would like to wish everyone a happy new year. All supporters of our events, all of you who train at the gym or who have befriended our team or fighters, everyone who is involved in the martial arts. Even those who have perhaps not been as friendly or shown AFK the support it deserves (Steve70? ) , have a happy new year and hopefully you'll show us the support/respect we deserve next time eh? The rest of you , have a prosperous 2014.

  19. I pop in for fruit smoothies and a chat. The young couple who run the place are lovely. Really friendly and talkative. I like the pineapple and mango smoothie best. Oh and their chocolate tarts, once you have one you just cant stop lol
  20. I cant answer what to do apart from visit citizens advice bureau. How old is your son by the way?
  21. I love walking, how long are these walks? Walking is good for building strong leg muscles which lead to more powerful kicks for my sport Also it lowers blood pressure and calms the heart rate Sounds interesting. Are a bunch of Kickboxers who wish to add some Ying to their Yang welcome?
  22. For those of you who are not in the know, K-1 is a new trend in the world of Kickboxing. All of a sudden every kickboxer (even the recreational kickboxers ) and his sister in law is a K-1 fighter . Average (if that) Amateur kickboxers are matched against a Raw Novice or a Fighter with a LOSING record for some sort of "K-1 title" which carries little or no recognition outside the event or that fighter's social circle. The fact is K-1 is a format and a rules system. It is NOT a martial art. There is no such thing as a "Black Belt in K-1" the same way you dont get "Black belts in UFC" . K-1 is an open forum for ALL Stand up martial arts to compete against each other in a fighting system that encourages excitement and KO's. Boxing Vs Kickboxing Vs Taekwondo Vs Muay Thai Vs Sanshou There are NO Kick counts , there is NO Clinching or Grappling. Stalling and Time wasting are NOT allowed. You MUST go forward and FIGHT! If you slow down , the referee will warn you and tell you to engage. K-1 rules dont allow clinching but allow you to grab hold let ONE Knee go then you must release and go back to the FIGHT. So you can Grab knee then let go and throw another knee. There are no elbows in K-1 as elbows cause cuts so a fight can be won on a little cut which causes controversy. K-1 is all about KO's. Basic Rules of K-1 3x3 mins is the standard ! There are NO Draws so in case of a draw there can be a MAXIMUM of 2 Extra rounds then there must be a decision. Some fights can be 5x3 mins but even a K-1 WORLD title is normally over 3x3 mins. All Boxing punches are allowed to the head and torso , in addition you can use the Spinning Backfist BUT you must connect with the glove and will be penalised if you land with the forearm or the elbow. Kicks are allowed anywhere but the groin using any part of the leg. Whether shin, instep, heel or even the knee. (In japanese Hiza-Geri literally means Knee-Kick so the Japanese classify a knee strike as a kick) Use of the KNEE is allowed to the legs , torso or even the HEAD! (Knees to the head are looked favourably upon as they cause KO's) Flying knee is also allowed. NO one technique outscores any other,.... You are here to FIGHT not play the game ,..... THIS IS K-1 ---------- Post added 30-09-2013 at 11:05 ---------- If you want an overview on K-1 Fighters in Sheffield i will be willing to add to this or write another article on this topic
