  1. Good point. Although there's a lot of local advertising about. Do the students get Sandman? It's a local free mag in lots of the good pubs/muso hangouts in Sheff and it is the zeitgeist on local music. I think they have one in Leeds and Manchester too. It'll tell you what's out there what ever you're into. I saw a band a few days ago, they looked about 12! They were called General Disarray (which isn't great) but they were amazing, a bit navel gazey around the guitarist department but a wicked band that I hadn't seen before. HJ
  2. I moved from Leeds in November and am wondering where the support is for local music in this city. In this short time I have experienced the cute rocking cheek bones of Tommy Binks, the profound soulful emotion of This Floating World and the sublime Jody Wildgoose and of course many other amazing local bands, but where are the kids? In Leeds the student population are well into supporting the local scene but in Sheff the students are all more mainstream and corporately led. Beer and crap student nights all the way. Why Sheff folk stay at home (unless it's pound a pint night) and if there's anything we can do to change this. Let me know what you think guys?

  4. Sandman is the best Sheffield mag. I loves it I do.
  5. The Lescar is cool, just a shame it's a bit pokey in the back like. Well what I think you should do is hold a comedy festival in the back garden of the lescar when it's all warm and summery! Get loads of good acts and have a Sunday afternoon thang going on with like five or six good comics and yourself of course (hehe). It would be boss and you could make muchos wonga from the picnic table masses. I know you might think this isn't what I asked about but you'd be mad not to do it.

I just wanted to start a topic to try and find a way of understanding why Sheff folk stay at home unless it's pound a pint night and if there's anything we can do to change this. 7. I saw the best band in Sheffield the other night, or at least I think they were from Sheffield! They supported The AM (who were missing Jeff Buckley badly) at the Fez club on Monday and they were ace. They had a cello and a double bass and a big guy singing with a really powerful voice but it doesn't sound like it should, but it rocked. Does anyone know who they are and when they'll play again?
