  1. I bought the first issue. The second came out too late for me to even pretend to be bothered with. Anyway, the squished pictures which gave the male model a head like a football and the pattern for a rug which was basically "knit a massive st st square and wash at sixty" are unforgivable, in my opinion.
  2. Fifty pounds would buy the pattern and enough shiny new yarn and notions for something I really, really want to make: Bridie by Anna Bell, perhaps. The other fifty would buy a dress or skirt to wear with it. (I'm normally rooting around in charity shops, TK Maxx and the Topshop sale rails to fulfil my fashionry and yarn-y needs.)
  3. There's always an outside chance that some copies will make it to the Wool Baa, eh Jill? I find the whole operation disappointing and unprofessional. I nearly subscribed, but didn't - if I had handed money over and received the shabby production and rotten customer service offered, I would be deeply disappointed in the people behind it. As it is, the things I've heard about it make me want nothing to do with it, or the associated companies.
  4. I would not have guessed that you were so new to this business! I've been knitting for about 18 months. I still have a million questions, and I expect I will probably always be learning stuff. Luckily, the people on this board are very good at coming up with the answers!
  5. Happy birthday, Wheezy! Had a look at your blog - I think this thread can definitely be brought round to a knitting theme with all those lovely presents! Hope you're feeling better, too xx
  6. Because using it is like being tickled with a thousand little plastic hands?
  7. Let's form a Ravelry group! It will be just like here but, um, on Ravelry. It would make it much easier for me when I want to find you all and see what you've been up to.
  8. You must be so pleased you persisted. It's looking brilliant. And, whether Maisie is a help or a hindrance, she certainly accessorises nicely with the blanket! Knitting backwards is something I've never tried, even though it would be a neat trick with the entrelac I'm working on at the mo.
  9. What a beautiful smile! It's so satisfying to get a good reception for a knitted item, and those lovely socks definitely merit it.
  10. Or have them delivered to the Wool Baa. That would work well.
  11. Thank-you Amelie. I'm glad you had such a great time there. Hurrah for gratis yarn! And hurrah for badgers!
  12. Alan Dart's toy patterns look quite ingenious but everything else they offer is a bit what Amelie said about Let's Knit. I would love a UK knitting mag that carried interesting articles (not, "oooh, we went to this yarn shop, isn't it yummy!") and technical features, and actually made a bloody effort with the patterns and presentation. Some of SK's patterns are alright, but it's all a bit bland and everything is knit the same way - bottom up, flat, seamed. They seem to have a bit of a "don't frighten the horses" mentality. My bf works downstairs from them now. Maybe I'll bang on their door and tell them what I think of them
