It's unlikely that leaving it on for an extended time would kill it. I've had em running for days without problems. The cause of death on the older units was stress on the board due to it expanding and contracting, so it would be likely to RROD more quickly if it's regularly switched on for long enough for the board to expand. It's always worth making sure the vents are clear though by blowing them, using a cotton bud, or using compressed air.
