  1. Star Pubs & Bars likely running it down on purpose. It's a prime site to be sold.
  2. Not forgetting Minor Injuries is there too which includes x-ray facilities.
  3. The apps and the electronic signs all seem to lie quite a lot. The only reliable way now seems to be to look at the GPS map on bustimes.org and see if there is a bus physically en route.
  4. Yep! As for "Hopefully it will do The Itchy Pig out of some business" (a ridiculous thing to say) it won't. The two places are aimed at different sets of customers.
  5. Yes, the lack of displays after Broomhill always annoys me. Why did they stop there?
  6. Am a semi-regular 52/a user myself to and from Hillsborough. The tracker apps including First's own basically lie about the "live" bus times these days, but bustimes.org has always been on the money. Can be a bit depressing sometimes though when you're waiting for a timetabled peak time 52a and the map shows there are none in the whole of S6...
  7. Heist Brew Co next door to Gardener's Rest is good and will have some of the sorts of things a US craft beer fan will be used to including food in the form of burgers etc. Just along from there is Cutlery Works where more cuisines are available. In town, you can't go far wrong with Sheffield Tap, Rutland, Industry Tap, and Triple Point which are all close to each other.
  8. What is now Champs, and was the Pomona in the 90s/00s, is at 255 Ecclesall Road. I think there was an original Pomona a bit further along. https://www.thestar.co.uk/heritage-and-retro/heritage/sheffield-champs-sports-bar-on-ecclesall-road-is-on-the-site-of-a-pleasure-ground-called-pomona-gardens-3534014
  9. Went in the new Itchy Pig on Friday, it's well decent, a bit bigger than the Broomhill one and a really nice selection of craft keg + cask beers. Went in Dark Horse too, it's nice (not so much a beer enthusiast's bar though IMHO).
  10. Depends on the time of day. The tram from Castle Square will easily beat the 81 from Angel Street at rush hour. Late night or early morning with little traffic though and the 81 will win.
  11. Don't go near the stuff now but Stella "Dry" was a favourite of mine at uni 20 years ago.
  12. The fact that it needed the money spending for a refurb wouldn't have helped either. I wonder what will go in the building now? One of those halls with lots of independent retailers / food places maybe. Hopefully the building isn't stuffed with asbestos.
  13. OK have been in mesen tonight. Pub-wise, just the hotel bar is open at the mo on the right hand side of the building which serves the usual hotel bar type drinks - mainstream lagers, wines etc. However, spoke to the owner / manager and he said that the central part of the building will be opening again in a few weeks too as a pub, serving cask, and the word craft was mentioned. Will pop back and report. Anyway, its good that the it'll be opening again as a pub and not converted to purely residential use.
  14. Now open again as The Psalter. Seems to be getting decent reviews as a hotel, but has anyone here been in? Is the bar decent?
  15. Just for awareness, anyone who gets their TV via the Sheffield Crosspool transmitter will need to do a retune on 5th Feb. In addition, a fair few channels will be lost, including: BBC Four HD BBC News HD Channel 4+1 HD 4seven HD QVC HD CBeebies HD (all the above will still available in SD) The full list is here: https://www.freeview.co.uk/5-feb-2020-changes-freeview-channel-line-sheffield-area The reason is that Ofcom are clearing the 700MHz spectrum for 5G services: https://www.freeview.co.uk/corporate/platform-management/700mhz-clearance
  16. It's already been reported to the Environment Agency.
  17. Might depend on the club - tried asking them on facebook / twitter? Although it might just be what the doorman feels like on the night
  18. Towards Charnock: stop CH1 Leopold Street outside All Bar One or TH3 Pinstone Street outside Costa. Towards Lodge Moor: As far as I can see it does still stop at Cathedral at HS5. Before that it's AG11 on Arundel Gate.
  19. Scotland Street. It used to be the Crown many years ago.
  20. Went in there a few times with the lovely old interior, before it was gutted by the last owners and finally closed
  21. I'll be going on Friday, when no doubt it will be rammed. Ho hum
  22. Not city centre or S6 (I don't think there are any in the entire S6 area or the city centre itself), but Parthenonas on London Road is pretty good. There is also Maraki on Abbeydale Road but I've not been in there. There are a lot more Turkish options, including in the city centre.
  23. The Pets and Gardens former pet shop opposite B&M has a planning application in to turn it into a micropub too.
