  1. Thanks for the reply. Although it pains me I am thinking of paying up. I'm about to have a baby and can't have this hanging over me/risk responding to letters late etc. Has anyone had experience with https://www.appealparkingticket.co.uk They charge £16 and appeal on your behalf. If they win they pocket the £16 I've paid them. If the lose they pay the whole free for me. Is it genuine? Thanks
  2. Hi Debs Thanks for the reply. Can I ask where you were parked? I'm just wondering if it is the same type of place as on Eccy road for comparison. How long ago did you get the charge and how long did it take for them to reply? Thanks
  3. Hello I have received a private parking fine from Vehicle Controlls limited at Berkley centre on Eccy rd. I overstayed in the 2hr free car park for 10 minutes. However a period of this time was waiting (with my engine running) for a space. I even came out of the car park to return a few minutes later to try again. I'm therefore a bit hazy on the actual time 'parked' but they have clocked me at 130 minutes. I really don't think £60-100 for a maximum 10 minute overstay is justifiable. The letter is also in my husbands name (he was still at work at the time) so he would need to declare that it wasn't him. Am I right in thinking that a recent court case (parking eye versus Beavis) means that you can no longer appeal as successfully with private parking? Is it therefore worth going down the POPLA route or should I just cough up even though they are unreasonable? I won't just throw it away as I don't want this hanging over me. Thanks in advance Ps I've read through much of MSE however it looks as though things may have changed recently so my chances of success are slim. Parking Prankster blog also alludes to this http://parking-prankster.blogspot.co.uk (Law firms nail their colours to the mast - Supreme Court is not likely to overturn the Beavis result).
  4. I have 17 month old twin boys that need their first hair cut. I'm likely to be taking them on my own so I really do need somewhere/one that is good with small toddlers and a reasonable price too. If anyone can recommend someone nearby or even a mobile hairdresser that covers this area I'd be very grateful. Thanks Vicky
  5. Hi. Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. Feel free to move. I'm looking for a good, thorough and reliable cleaner who covers S6. Just a couple of hours a week for a typical 3 bed terrace with off shot kitchen. What is the going rate per hour? Recommendations would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance Vicky
  6. Hi tigger Hope I'm not too late. I am having identical twins and I live in Sheffield. I'm due 12th June but will be induced/C'section mid-may. When are you due? Scary and exciting at the same time isn't it!! In answer to the query, identical twin pregnancy and birth is different to non-identicals, I am a final year mature medical student so have enough knowledge from both sides to say that with confidence. Lots of monitoring thought (which I am sure you know) so at least we are being looked after. Feel free to PM me tigger if you want to chat. Vicky
  7. Hi Yes the room is still available. Had a few people round and hoping to decide by tomorrow. If you are still interested and can get round pretty sharpish can you send me a quick email (vicjack78@hotmail.com). Thanks Vicky PS Sorry to have upset you babycakes. I reposted in the more appropriate section but did not know how to delete this.
  8. Hi all I have been lurking around your thread and am quite interested in playing Badminton and you all sound very enthusiastic. I have to admit that I am pretty much a beginner (last played on and off about 4 years ago). I just wondered if it is possible to come in and and observe one evening. I just want to save embarassment as I may be absolutely rubbish in comparison to you guys? Thanks Vicky
  9. Hi I've been running on and off along Rivelin with my housemate throughout the summer too. She is now moving so I'm not sure I will want to run on my own. I have tried running up to the Admiral Rodney from my house which is the same distance but the route is not as nice. I usually run about 3 miles and it takes us about 30-40 mins (I can't remember exactly). If this sounds like your thing let me know. Vicky PS I'm not the fittest in the world but can just about manage this ok. Looking to improve though.
  10. Hi. We are looking for a nice new (female) housemate to replace the one who is going to live with a boy at the end of the month (the cheek ) Here are some pics http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d129/vicjack/Bathroom.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d129/vicjack/Kitchen.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d129/vicjack/Diningroom.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d129/vicjack/VicandAli-1.jpg Fully furnished double room available with good views too (if you like the Sheffield skyline and Rivelin Valley!!). The house is clean and tidy the vast majority of the time (I’m no Monica from Friends!!) but has a lived in feel…the kind of place where you can put your feet up on the sofa! The rent is £350 per month but this does include all bills (including council tax, internet access (wireless if you have a laptop), cable etc) and really is a lovely place if I say so myself Meredith Road, Malin Bridge is 5 minute walk from Hillsborough shopping area which has some high street shops and your local greengrocers/butchers etc. The house is also a 5 minute walk from the Malin Bridge tram stop which makes it easy to get into town (10 mins) and is also on the edge of the peak district if you like Sunday morning strolls good for helping hangovers apparently. If you haven’t switched off yet I’ll tell you a little about Alison (other housemate) and myself. Ali is 23 and is a biomedical scientist. She has only been living here for about 2 months, but we hit it off really well as we are both chatty, friendly people. I have just recently left my job to go to medical school so have the odd bit of study to do. I guess we are looking for someone similar top ourselves…..chatty but not complete party animal . We go out for drinks/food, stay in and have a bottle of wine, but we also do our own thing too. I go to the gym and have started running, but I'm certainly not a lycra type…just need to counterbalance the love of good food! We both come from outside of Sheffield and tend to go away (separately!!) for the odd weekend which means that we all get some peace and quiet in the house every so often. If you are interested in coming to have a look around feel free to send me an email (vicjack78@hotmail.com) Vicky (and Alison)
  11. I am looking for some suggestions from you good peeps. A large group of us (20 ish) were supposed to be going to a ball which included a nice meal and dancing. Unfortunately we missed out on tickets so I am now trying to orgasnise an alternative. Can anyone recommend a nice restaurant in Sheffield or towards Derbyshire where we can get a bit dressed up (the ball gowns and dinner suits will be back in the wardrobes). Nothing majorily expensive but we were paying £36 for our tickets, plus drinks so that's our budget. Thanks in advance Vicky
  12. Has anyone actually met from here yet? I'm thinking there may be too many posts on here for people to read. Good luck all
  13. I went speed dating a couple of years ago and thought it was quite entertaining. I'm the chatty sort so I wasn't nervous at all. Some of the men were older than the age bracket advertised (some by a good 7 years) which wasn't too much of a problem, however there was an air of desperation amongst some. Most were completely normal, nice guys but unfortunately not fanciable. Some were of the desperate sort with one man admitted he had been about 30 times. I asked him very innocently if he had much luck to which he replied in a Mr Bean voice "I've had loads of friendship ticks, but that not really what we are here for is it?" The remaining few were Disney tie wearing, 4ft 9, odd balls. One man sat down gave no eye contact and said in a very dry, dead pan voice: "Hi, my name is John I'm 39(?) never been married, don't have children, I like cats.....fire away" hmmm over to me to fill the next 2.5 mins then (I got ticked by all men so that probably tells you a bit about the quality ) One of the nice bars should organise a singles night once a month. None of this £20 a head rubbish. A couple of quid on the door would be adequate. Once you are inside then it's a free for all. If you fancy someone, go and say hi. A singles night takes the 'he probably has a girlfriend element out of it'.
  14. The food in the Cheshire Cheese was very good last night. Steak pie It was perhaps a little smaller that I expected but it had a friendly feel. I almost felt like I was sat in someones living room as everyone seemed to know each other! Thanks for the tips
