  1. Can anybody tell me the name of a likely secondary school that a female would go to when leaving Crookesmoor infants in 1932. I would love it if anybody has any photos of the infants between 1928 and 1932. Any help with this would be much appreciated Betty
  2. Does anyone know where I could access old school photos. My grandfather was born in 1892. His early schooling was at Western Road and for about six months in 1903 he was at Bole Hill Primary School. I have seen the photo of the school on Picture Sheffield and I believe the building is still standing. I wondered if anyone might have a photo tucked away of any classes that would relate to the above years. Thanks Betty
  3. Did anyone live near 273 Queen Mary Road and remember the Dronfield family. My mum lived there in 1942. Another relation lived at 4 Queen Mary Road in 1933. Betty
  4. Thanks both for your comments. Betty
  5. Thanks for the reply. All I know about the pub is what is quoted on the following site. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~engsheffield/pubs3/rosecrown_stan.htm If you find anything more I would be interested to hear from you. It will be a while before I can visit Stannington but I will call in at the pub and see the plans you mention. Thanks for your time. Betty
  6. Does anyone know the Rose and Crown in Stannington. Is it the type of pub that has photos on the walls of previous landlords. I am particularly interested in the Wild family who were landlords back in the late 1800s. Any help with this would be great. I have a photo of the pub. Cheers Betty
  7. My granddad lived at 471 Hastilar Road in 1951. His name was Hugh Dronfield. I didn't know him. Did anybody live near that number who might remember him. What were the houses like. He also lived at 273 Queen Mary Road around 1940 - 1945.
  8. Researching my ancestors and saw a previous thread on this forum about old postcards. My gr. gr. grandfather was the victualler of the Golden Fleece, 12 New Haymarket His name was Hugh Dronfield and I have found him on the 1861,71 and 81 census. I have the photo from the Library (it is not online). It is a good photo but the name of the pub is not visible. I wondered if anyone has any old postcards or photos of that area. The information from the library was that the building had been built by John Hall, It was built around 1800 and was pulled down for the goods yard for London and North Western Railway Co. I think the Corn Exchange was also in that area. We visited Sheffield last year and had hoped to get back this year but will not be able to. If anyone can give me any information about this pub, such as if it was private or who was the brewery, also if a plan of the building would be available. I have it marked on a nineteenth century map we got from the library last year. Any information would be a bonus. We visited the site last year down at the canal where it used to be. It is a lovely bit of Sheffield. Cheers Specialk
  9. Hi Thanks to all who replied. My gr father was Hugh Dronfield. Does anyone know that name. He lived in Hastilar Rd in 1951. specialk
  10. Hi Thanks for the reply. Do you know anything about the area. How old are the houses. I will pay a visit the next time we are in Sheffield. Cheers Specialk
  11. Hi Does anybody know if 471 Hastilar Road South still exists . My grandfather lived there in 1951. Cheers specialk
  12. Hi Thanks for all the comments. It was a bit sad to find only a handful of houses left on Queen Mary Road last year. The bulldozers were there the day we visited. From the outside of the houses they looked as if they would have been quite nice in their day. Cheers specialk
  13. Hi Anyone out there remember the Manor. My grandfather lived at 273 Queen Mary Road in 1942. I would love to hear any stories about that area and if anybody has any photographs that would be great. I have visited Picture Sheffield and got what is on line. I also visited (on foot) the Manor last year but it was well on the way to being demolished. My grandfather's name was Hugh Dronfield. Any info would be great. Cheers Specialk
